Description: Few places given the opportunity to eat in the bullring, on the sand that have trod large as Curro Romero or Jose Tomas and in which the bull has left its mark heavy. Doing so at dusk while tasting the traditional dishes of Antequera, with a soundtrack composed by the voices of Morente and Camaron and the Vicente Amigo guitars may prove to be a gastronomic experience?.Which could well have become a mere tourist attraction has been transformed into a point of reference in the city and all thanks to the variety and quality of their products. Restorer from 16 years, partner in the bullfighter Francisco Rivera, Inmaculada Jiménez took the reins of restaurant next to a team that worthy are to assess their efforts and sacrifices, to catapult to which today is, without doubt, one of the best, and famous restaurants within and outside the national territory. If for some tastes the traditional cuisine can be boring, the Menu of the restaurant Plaza de Toros la Espuela gives you a change in his presentation in a menu. Under titles such as Lances del Mediterraneo del Faraon de Camas, Tercios de Rivera en las dehesas Andaluzas, Caprichos del Maestro Curro or Cucharas del Maestro Paula -all in clear reference to figures of bullfighting, presented the dishes encountered in the stove of professionals that form the kitchen equipment. If diner at the coso has its clear charm, do not within him expectation. The inner dining crimson shielding the tables of the diners among small archs decorated with pictures and tables of thematic bullfighting and flamenco. Among them, stresses a picture of Enrique Morente singing in the restaurant in the holding of baptism of his grandson, Curro, son of Estrella Morente and Javier Conde. Harvey Friend dinner in the coso antequeran while ran The Bridge of San Luis Rey (Mary McGuckian, 2004) in the city and that Madonna made a stop in the plaza de toros for running a spot whose picture of the shooting is found in the area of the bar. Also corners, dedicated to the great figures of bullfighting that have passed by the house, as Curro Romero, Rafael de Paula, Antonio Chenel Antonete, Enrique Ponce, Francisco Rivera, The Cordobes, the Maestro Manzanares, among other?.In a city whose gastronomic history has not been drawn throughout the match possible, the extensive and complete charter of the restaurant Plaza de Toros la Espuela summarizes the culinary tradition of Antequera and part of the Andalusia and Spain. For those who do not need more that good raw material, but who like to enjoy places with solera, for them, the Plaza de Toros de Antequera left their doors open?.

Rather heavy food, but in an interesting location.
This is somewhere to visit if you want a really heaty meal rather than a more lighter one.

A Restaurant to be avoided!

When 6000 spectators at Dinner time are leaving “Plaza de Toros” in Antequera after a Bull fight! You would expect some locals to dine at the spacious Restaurant “Plaza de Toros La Espuela”, which is built-in to the “Plaza de Toros” complex and nicely decorated with the usual “Bull stuff”. Only 18 people did when we were there, and half of them were foreigners. Why?

Because the food being served is way below average and the prices 50 % above average + 8 % tax, which you will find in small print at the bottom of the Card. To this you can add two very unprofessional and rude waiters. (Was one of them the Owner?)

“Rabo de Toro” (Bull tails) is a very well-known dish in Andalucia and comes with a rich gravy. Not so in Restaurant “La Espuela”. Tails and the watery gravy were grey and tasteless; add a small handful of oil drenched limp fries, 2 pieces of battered soft onion rings, and a cooked pepper fruit, was it? All three accompaniments had the consistency of uncooked squid and the whole dish badly presented.

Our neighbouring table returned a dish (whatever is was) to where it came from.
Don´t be fooled by the Internet photo presentation.

It´s a Restaurant to be avoided as 6000 locals did on the night of the Annual August Bullfight 2012. This is a personal opinion from a Cook and Food writer.

I moved to from London to Antequera over 8 years ago and live about 6 minutes walk from the bullring. I was aware of the restaurant inside but had not had a chance to try. I had heard good things about it, so on a recent visit from my sister and brother in law this seemed the best opportunity to try it. We arrived at about 10pm, we were still the first to arrive, but business picked up soon after. We were placed on a table in the actual ring itself which was a very nice setting as it was now summer. The service was very good and the waiters were very polite and friendly. We received an appetizer of Porra which was a pleasant surprise, a local dish from Antequera. The rest of the food was very good, portion size and taste was good. All in all a very good experience in a fantastic setting. I am sure I will be bringing more friends and family to eat here.

This restaurant - located within the permiter walls of the bullring - was a lucky find on our recent trip through Antequera. The bullfighting decor was most interesting. Both food (excellent variety) and service were very good. I would recommend reserving in advance on weekends and holidays.

We stayed for 4 days in Antequera and had a sampling of the various places to eat in town, including the restaurant at the Parador (where we stayed). None impressed us at all, so for our final dinner there, we decided to try La Espuela with the idea that this one should at least make up for the disappointments so far. And happily enough, it was the right decision.

The location is, of course, unique being in the bullring. The interior is aptly and richly decorated with all things related to bullfighting. Indeed, it felt somewhat like a small museum, and while waiting for our food, we were entertained by the many photos and souvenirs all around -- it certainly didn't lack for the right ambience!

The food was, overall, quite good though some improvement presentation-wise could be made. We had 2 kinds of starters, one of which was a blood sausage lasagna, 2 kinds of soup, rabo do toro as well as duck confit for the main course, fried milk for dessert, coffee, and a small bottle of red -- a very filling dinner indeed. While we enjoyed it in general (the duck, however, could be better), we expected the food to be more exquisite, from the description in the menu. What we had cost us over 80 euros, a bit more expensive than average but I think it was quite reasonable. Service was quick although to be expected as we were the only diners that night (it was a Wednesday evening).
