This is simply a stunning place to stay. Wonderful views, large rooms, many period features, amazing pool area.

There is a general air of calm about the place.

The room maids do a very good job whey day.

Plenty of free parking.

I would recommend a stay here to anyone.

The restaurant is NOT what I had expected from a Parador and I have reviewed it separately and given it 3 points.

If you stay here, try La Yedra restaurant about 200m away, it is far superior.

Note that rooms 216 - 219 appear to be under the cafe bar terrace so you so get some noise, though it wasn't a problem to us.

Also, make sure you go down to the historic part of town. Well worth a walk.

We stayed here towards the end of a touring holiday because we had heard such good things about Paradors. It was indeed stunning in many ways. The views, of course, over miles of plain, the majesty of the castle and, more mundanely, a marvellous pool.
The rooms were what I would expect of a hotel of this quality - good but not outstanding. The bathroom was a bit of a let-down (The bidet had a jet of water which could strip paint and gave me a shower from the waist down).
The service generally was smile-less. It was not done with feeling. Perhaps this is what they think their guests want, but compared with other hotels we stayed in (notably the NH Amistad in Cordoba) it was a bit robotic. Perhaps a throw back to Pedro the Cruel who built it originally.
Restaurant was below average, especially for the price. No lightness of touch to the dishes - and they do not understand that a GREEN salad is GREEN - not full of sweet-corn, tomatoes, etc and was ordered as an accompaniment to the main course, not a meal in itself (though we had the same problem elsewhere).
Breakfast, however, was super. About 20 metres of everything from chorizo, Coco-pops(!), fruit and even cool white wine. Good value, but still no smiles.

This was our second Parador and we found it better value than the first. Instead of being built beside an Alcazar, this one was built within it. Awesome architecture. The furniture was intentionally rustic which added to the authenticity, however in the lounge it wasn't very comfortable but we didn't spend much time there anyway. The views over the hills were amazing. Oh yes, we took the bus from Sevilla to Carmona, it was < 3 EUR each, and took 50 minutes. Despite what you might find on the web, the M-124 bus stop in Sevilla is across the street from the Sam Bernardo train station (as of Sept 2013), prior to this the M-124 went to Prado de San Sebastian in Sevilla.

Room Tip: The higher the better, for the views.

We stayed three nights in May 2014. On the first day we stayed in Carmona and walked about and say the sights (a charming little town!). The next day we took a day trip to Cordoba, and the day after that a day trip to Sevilla. Afternoons were spent at the pool relaxing. We dined one night at the parador, and two nights in town.

What we liked:
1. A nice location, nicely situated between two marvelous cities to viist (Cordoba and Sevilla).
2. Carmona is a lovely way to get close to how real Spaniards live.
3. A delicious breakfast buffet.
4. Pool area is very nice.

What we did not like:
1. Rooms are very antiquated -- they definitely need to be renovated top to bottom. But the rooms were clean and presentable.
2. The dogs, chickens, and goats -- yes, we realize that Carmona is in the country, but abutting the property are a couple of small farms/ranches where smells and noises arise even to the top of the crest of the hill where the parador sits. Wild dogs range about the fields and howl all night long. Not much they can do about that, but it does detract from the stay.
3. The staff are proper and polite, but always seem under constant stress and therefore are not as personable as in other Paradors.
4. The dining hall is large and when tour groups are there dining, it is quite noisy.

.

Room Tip: 1. Book the rooms with balconies -- higher up and a place to get away from it all. 2. Bring earplug...

This parador is a unique facility converted from a fortress/castle built by King Pedro I. Spectacular views of the agricultural countryside. Beautiful courtyards and a wonderful dining hall with very high quality cuisine in a 16th century setting. Easy drives to Sevilla and Cordoba.

My wife and I took the AVE train from Madrid into Sevilla - a 2.5 hour trek in spacious seating - on our way to Carmona. We got in line for taxis outside of the train station and took a cab to Carmona, despite our taxi drivers visible frustration with the 20 minute drive. Nonetheless, we drove out of Sevilla.

There is only one exit for Carmona and as you head through the more modern part of town you start to see signs for the 'Parador de Carmona'. I had read before that others had some trouble finding the Parador. We were fortunate as we did not experience such obstacles.

When you drive through the tight arched gate into the main courtyard of the Parador you begin to see the majesty of this castle. We tipped our driver quite well to make up for the deadhead trip back to Sevilla. Inside the building is magnificent. There is the lobby with a small gift shop, a hallway with armor and swords on the wall that leads to the restaurant and beautiful back patio where you can see 50 miles out across the countryside. There is a courtyard with a fountain that is covered with canvas to allow the wind in but blocks out the sun and there is a second hallway that takes you back to the rooms.

Our room was on the third floor, the main floor that you enter on. Our view was of the vast plains that stretched to the mountains. It is said that invaders could be seen 3 days away from this vantage point. The rooms themselves are very comfortable with a large bed for my wife and I, two balconies, a very nice bathroom which had a separate stall for the facilities, and the best variety of English television that we encountered on our trip.

I would recommend the hour long tour of the city that can be set up for you at the front desk. It is 10 Euro a piece and your guide, Alphonso, truly loves and embraces his town.

Carmona is the oldest living city in Europe with human residents for 4500 years. The Phoenicians, Romans, Moors, Visigoths and countless other civilizations lived here. From your room, or from the patio you can see why.

The Parador also has a pool, as well as air conditioning and wifi

My wife and I were very excited to be staying here and we were not at the least bit let down. Many of the staff speak English well enough to be understood, and if I can make it back to Carmona I will stay here again. It really is a no brainer. Cheers!

Room Tip: 3rd floor is fantastic. Also, make reservations for the restaurant for dinner.

We stayed just one night en route from Marbella to Seville. It was a wonderful experience, and we now would like to visit more Paradors. The conversion from a fortress to an hotel, has been expertly carried out. The decor has a quality feel about it, and the views from the spacious rooms are breathtaking. Would definatly visit again
