We stayed for two nights; the weather was beautiful, the pool was marvelous--I was the only swimmer. Whenever we needed something, everyone was very helpful. On arrival the special promotion for half pension was pointed out and we took it. We found the food excellent, especially the pork (cocina regional). Overall a very good experience!

Room Tip: I assume rooms on the top floor have the better views.

Great location for visiting cazorla.
The Restaurant is expensive and the choices are not many
The facilities are really basic.
No proper internet connection
( it is true that internet and other facilities are not what you are looking for in a place like this)

Room Tip: The best room is the one with the balcony. It is worth the price.

It is a Parador, so the staff can be somewhat snooty, but we found most of them better than average Paradorcrats. One must add that they were a little shorthanded. For the money, one cannot complain, the rooms are sizeable and it's atop the mountains right on the trails. If you want to walk or hike or mountain-bike, then stay here.

Apparently Franco and his cronies used to stay here when they were planning another way to hurt the general population. Nevertheless, this is another of my favourite paradores. Most of them are my favourite paradores, but I particularly like this one because it is so far away from anything, along a winding narrow road in the mountains, a road that goes nowhere except the parador and so is not busy. The pool is on the edge of a steep drop, the food is excellent, etc. And iti s dark at night.

We are currently in residence as part of our circum-navigation of the Sierra Nevada.

The drive from Cazorla is indeed approx 45min up into the wilderness. The drive is not for the faint hearted and includes some hairpin bends however the condition of the road surface is very good and on the days that we have been here they have been quiet. (This has included one journey up in darkness)

Agreed with other reviews, this Parador is not your swanky converted castle or monastery, more like a mountain hunting lodge . Characteristic with charm yet slightly rough around the edges.
It's setting is perfect, peaceful and very rural. Glorious walks await you and the helpful staff advise you regarding routes and their levels of difficulty. (There are even walking staffs provided in your room)

First impressions, we found the staff very helpful and efficient. Our room was of good size with sofa bed for our young child.
The room was spotlessly clean with sumptuous fresh towels and high thread count quality linens.
Comfortable beds promoted good rest.
We were able to control the radiators for the Autumn chill however we noted no A/C (unfamiliar with summer temperatures)
Although the windows were not the largest-more like a ski lodge in style, the view was fantastic!
As aforementioned a few rough edges-
-1980s style hair dryer wall mounted
-dated decor, old worn radiators, roughly finished plaster work yet spotlessly white, not to everyone's liking but we found it to be in perfect keeping with this establishment.
-not the most modern bath and shower but the usual Parador water pressure and endless hot water was evident.

We LOVED the hours we spent as a family by the large open fireplace!
-this included afternoon coffees, pre/post dinner drinks and we even ate fireside on one evening.

Restaurant- enjoyed a very good dinner and excellent breakfast offerings, all inline with usual Parador standards.

Service- having read a few negative reviews we arrived with an open mind but we were pleased with the service offered in all areas. Especially impressed by the reception team who advised and reserved our onward hotel stay, assisting us regarding the lack of accommodation due to a public holiday.
The hotel closes for the winter in two weeks time so there were a couple of issues which we understood and not an issue for us...
-we didn't manage to get our first choice of wine one evening due to lack of stock
-two restaurant staff also covering the bar meant a slight delay in bar service on a couple of occasions
There was however none of the often present 'Parador Attitude' as we refer to it with many staff across the group.

Yes we were very lucky with the weather-wall to wall sunshine with azure blue skies, perfect backdrop to the Autumn colours. Not sure what we would have done if it had been wet (there is a games room with table tennis we noticed)

Pay the extra- invest in a room at the front with a view- we noted the limited outlooks from some rooms.

Overall, it was perfect for us and a rest from the driving and busy city visits of our trip. We had been putting of our visit here for almost 10 years as it seems very out of the way but can't wait to return now we've had a taste!

Nestled in the mountains above Cazorla, this parador is probably not quite up to the overall standard of other parador buildings but instead relies on its remote location and spectacular views to draw the crowd in. Alas it was raining on the days when we were here so we didn't go for any big trail walks and couldn't enjoy the views properly. Something had also gone wrong with our booking (via the official parador site) but the staff pulled out all the stops and sorted the whole thing out for us including ensuring that our onward stays with the paradors in Ubeda and Jaen were properly sorted out for us (we were staying in all 3 as part of the Trail Of The Nazrids - a good value way of staying in these paradors). Once up here, you are not going to drive back down to Cazorla for dinner so you can get bar food (I believe) or eat in the restaurant. The food was fairly good from what I can recall with croquetas, roast rabbit and vension stew being main parts of our meal. Breakfast too was good. Place seemed a little quiet but probably wouldn't have cared if the weather had been better. We were just unlucky in that respect.

Room Tip: Ask for room with view out to valley - some do not face out that way
