“dont worry”
Reviewed 29 October 2013

my wife and i stayed at the palmeras at the beginning of september.we arrived at reception and were checked in quickly.
to be brief the room was spotlessly clean and large, the staff were helpful enough if you can speak a little spanish and give a cheery "ola" to them.
we stayed on a bed and breakfast and the selection at the buffet breakfast was really good catering for all.
the location of the hotel is excellent close to beach, beachfront restaurants and marina, you will encounter roma beggars, lookie lookie men, and late at night prostitutes but all will not pester you too much just say no and they will leave you alone
the hotel pool is quite small but it was quiet most of the time and its on the 5th floor with good views,if you are feeling energetic try some water aerobics or water polo the guy taking it is a real laugh makes you feel tired just watching him.im told he does the disco in the evening too although we didnt go as it was more for families.
in conclusion if you are going to fuengirola and use this hotel as a base for getting about you will be fine you are close to bus and train stations, beach ,restaurants, but go into the backstreets and explore the spanish cafe bars and tapas bars, learn a little spanish it will be appreciated.
hotel palmeras is perfect if you like to get out i cant comment on evening meals or entertainment as we didnt use it but as i said the rooms spotless and cleaned every day with clean towels the breakfast was great and the location excellent,so dont worry if you are going and need a good base, you will be fine

I feel we would have been better staying in a hotel where English people were not in a tiny minority like at this hotel as most of the staff did not speak good English and some smiled but most didn’t and we missed having some entertainment in an evening suitable for us. It wouldn’t have mattered as much if there had been bars nearby with English singers like there are in Benidorm and Tenerife but we didn’t find any. It isn’t a very attractive building and didn’t feel like a 4 star and a mystery to us was why it was so busy in the dining room but you hardly saw anyone in the reception, bar or round the pool. At least it was nice to always be able to find a sun lounger, but it wasn’t a particularly pleasant pool area. It did have positives in that it was in a very good position by the harbour with nice walks along the promenade in either direction and handy for the bus and train stations. Also it was a nice, big room and bathroom and we were in room 680 so we didn’t have any noise from the bars or road works, but it was a rather grotty view of buildings and a car park with smashed up cars, although we could see the sea and the edge of the pool. You could only get BBC World News on the old tv. The food wasn’t what I would expect from a 4 star hotel as there wasn’t a lot of choice, or theme evenings or chef’s cooking. We did however manage to enjoy our meals as we had soup and then a nice selection of salads and we could normally find something hot we liked, chicken was OK, some of the fish and the paella, not keen on the meat, and then there was a selection of desserts – the profiteroles were scrumptious! It was 2 Euros an hour for Wi-Fi but we had it free where we stayed our first week at the Bali Hotel, Benalmedina which we liked better. The hotel charge was £508.50 for All Inclusive for both of us for a week so at least it was cheap!

Stayed here on a 4 night golf break (group of 8). Whilst it's not in my view a 4* hotel, some of the negative reviews here are a bit overblown. The hotel is centrally located, near the harbour and a 5 min walk from the sand. Plenty of bars, restaurants etc within a very short walk. Rooms are clean and very large, bathrooms are good and beds are comfortable. TV in room is antiquated and channels limited. There is a fridge in the room. Rooms have balconies with chairs and a table, views vary from side street & sea to derelict car park. Only ate breakfast here, somewhat mixed but plenty of choice including all the usual stuff. Machine coffee and juices are hideous so stick to tea, decaff coffee or water. General clientele are elderly so expect large queues for the lift (quicker to use the stairs). Reception was efficient but not charming. Fuengirola is currently undergoing a large programme of street works, so yes there was noise as the road next to the hotel is being pedestrianised. Work started 8am approx and continued until 8pm, but the room patio doors are double glazed so when shut it's not really audible (and the rooms have excellent aircon so you can keep the doors shut). Imagine the work will continue for a few weeks yet. There are rowdy bars immediately opposite, but same applies - you won't hear much if you keep the doors shut. This is Fuengirola - you're going to get noisy bars wherever you stay. So, not a memorable place to stay, but perfectly adequate for the purpose for us. Rates are very good out of season.

My 2 friends and I arrived to the Las Palmeras Hotel in Fuengirola on Sept 24th to find what resembled a building site at the hotel entrance!.On check-in there was a notice at reception to inform guests that road improvement works were taking place outside the hotel commencing on Sept 16th taking approx 50 days+ - note we had booked this hotel in May and we were not informed prior to our arrival. The staff at reception were efficient and courteous and facilitated us with rooms at the side of the hotel away from the roadworks.I am sorry to say that this does not apply to remainder of the staff. We found the waiting and bar staff to be abrupt in manner and rude on several occasions. The breakfast and evening buffet were poor overall with limited choice. The rooms could do with being refurbished and the pool area has limited facilities. Overall a very dissapointing holiday - very poor value for money -certainly not a 4 star hotel!

Generally OK hotel of its type but one side of the hotel faces bars that are very noisy until well into the early hours. This same side currently (autumn 2013) has noisy roadworks during the day so you pretty much have 24 hour noise. When checking in insist on a room that doesn't face the noise.

Stayed here recently along with a bunch of lads on a golfing break. Staff pleasant enough but speak limited English. Reception adequate for a large hotel, but manned by one person most of the time. Room basic, but not been modernised from the 70,s. Breakfast luke warm, didn't try the evening 9 euro buffet as suffering breakfast was bad enough. Happy hour was fun with buy 1 get 1 free offer, made up for the breakfast. Noise from night clubs goes on until 5am at least. We were right opposite the bars so sleep was very limited. Location is very good with several very nice restaurants within a couple of hundred yards of the hotel, Be aware as you are returning to your hotel you will be greeted by several ladies of the night just on the corner. Went round the giant plastic paddling pool a couple of times, where you can either view the harbour or look the other way and enjoy the view of a scrapyard. Luckily the golf was good.

Room Tip: Avoid facing the road

The rooms are clean and functional but very dated and basic with a few minor problems. Hotel facilities are poor with only a small pool which was quite cold in late September. The area around the hotel is very unattractive although the streets are being improved and it should be better in future. Meals are very poor and the majority of staff are rude and unhelpful.

Room Tip: Try to get a quiet room but you will probably then overlook the car breakers yard.
