“Nice Hotel”
Reviewed 22 June 2012

We stayed for a week 1st night wednesday. This was good because we had spanish lads footy team Sat and Sun.Well 3 squads, who were loud and lively just as you would expect. This added to the couple of hundred people who congregate opposite the hotel on Sat night. So not much sleep and the recycle bins are emptied early am to wake you up just as you finally get to sleep.Thats my only moan, but the lads really enjoyed the midnight swim which proved the only entertainment in the hotel, and we saw that coz we had a room on 4th floor overlooking beach.Yea swimming in the sea!
FOOD....Very nice choice.Fish every night which we loved, and a choice of pork or chicken and various other spanish normals.Salad's but not many vedgetables.Chips.Fairly good English Bfast and a good cont'tal bfast.Fruit and cakes morning and evening.
Loaction....right on main strip with massive choice of bars and retraunts.Shingle beach over road becoming a bit sandier either direction.Supermarket 50m,bigger one up next to station 300m.
Room...good clean ,facing sea,balcony.Very noisey week end,fine midweek.Shower and bath,with hairdryer.3 Lifts to rooms.Cleaned daily.
Pool...on the roof which would be 11th floor. The lift only goes up to 8th and then 49 steps!I counted them. The pool is round about 10m across, clean and about 5ft deep.Fantastic views all round. When it gets breezy the parasols try to escape over the rail so tie them on!30ish sunbeds with nice foam cushions.Pool opens at 10 am so no reserving beds, but we always got a choice any time of day.No shade so all get full sun, whey!Would go here again, but only as a cheap deal.
Transfers....we transf by train.First time we have done this but brill.Get off plane,go thru arrivals and follow signs for train(there is an info desk if unsure)At station go to machine press English follow instructions destination Fuengirolla. We got singles 5euro's.Trains every 20 mins so no rush if you miss one.Takes half hour.Exit train station via escalator, take road off the fountain roundabout that goes to sea front(any one will tell you where the sea is).At sea front hotel is on the right 20m.Total walk 300m/5 mins.It is flat footpath and if you got wheels on your case not much effort.Dont pay £40 transf,do it your self £8.Then buy Sangria with the £32 you saved :)

Room Tip: There are two blocks,I presume you pay more for beach view but we got lucky. If you gonna use the poo...

My wife and I stayed here in June. We were with another couple, who´s first room smelled so badly they had to refuse it. We were then offered 2 rooms on 12th floor of the higher tower. The carpets in these rooms were very dirty. So they were refused. The next offer turned out to be a room with a large puddle of water in the entrance caused by a leak in the bathroom. The final offer were 2 rooms on 6th floor overlooking restaurant row (sometimes known as ´Fish-Alley´). Of course this is quite noisy particularly on a Friday night. Rooms are very basic, small bathrooms, and difficult to set the shower head to required angle. Tiled floored rooms are better than those with carpets. Airconditioning is shut off late at night. Breakfast is basic for this standard, and not as good as in Las Rampas Hotel. There are no scrambled eggs available unless expressly requested from the cook. The Bar has a happy hour 18-19:00 which is good value. Entertainment is probably OK for the locals, but perhaps not for tourists. Best thing about this hotel is the location for beach, shops, restaurants, train station - all within a short walk. It has a pool, but not open early in the morning.

Room Tip: Ensure a sea view, with tiled floor. Do not expect any luxuries. This is a basic hotel for this stan...

Ideal location for the beaches, restaurants, supermarkets, weekly markets, bus station, train station to Malaga Central. 1st line beach location.
Requested for front seaview room on arrival and that was what I got in Room 708 7th floor. Arrived at 11 am after 7.10 am flight from LGW but the room was already available and we were checked in immediately with minimal formality. The room was cleaned daily and towels changed.
We stayed half board. Dinner had ample selection. Dining was relaxed looking out to sea. Everyone was pleasant and lovely, from the excellent dining room staff to the hardworking chambermaids and reception personnel. We stayed 2 weeks and had an excellent break.
There are two tower blocks and I stayed at the lower block. The rooms here are larger. The room furnitutre are modern. The twin beds were comfortable. There is a LG LCD TV with BBC World Service and CNN channels among other local, national TV. There is also RTL in German. There is a discotheque in the same building on the groundfloor, the popular Mai Tai. So be mindful if you are on the lower floors in this block. The taller storey block is further away from the disco so noise will not be a problem but the rooms there are more compact with smaller balconies. It never bothered us on the 7th floor.
I have stayed in both blocks so I know what I am saying. There is free
wifi in the lounge area. Just ask the reception for the password.
There is also a pay to use internet booth in front reception.
We booked a day coach trip to Seville with Viajes Maxy Travel for 42 Euros. They come to pick you up at the hotel and drop you back at the hotel. Viajes Maxy Travel is further down the road as you exit the hotel on your right. They have very helpful English speaking staff.
We ventured into Malaga by train. Return fare is 6.70 euros. Lots of eateries up on the 1st level at the Malaga Maria Zambrano station from where we took the return train to Fuengirola.
For retail shopping, we took the L4 from Fuengirola to Miramar Parque for 1 euro each way.
In all, we had a most relaxed and pleasant stay at El Puerto this trip.
Thank you El Puerto staff. You were superb.

Room Tip: 707, 708, 709,710 7th floor, 8th floor front sea view

Stayed in a studio at this hotel provided by Smiths for Spain, room 1424 on the fourteenth floor. Large enough for the two of us (three people would be a bit of a squash), with magnificent views over the beach, sea and marina from the balconey The studio was clean and tidy, no complaints there, with ample spare bedding as my friend and I booked for a month, although I do think the public area when you got out of the lift could do with refurbishment, mainly new carpets would make it look more attractive which is probably the responsibility of the Hotel and not the studio owners. It is ideally situated for Fish Alley for the bars and restaurants, and only 5 minutes walk, if that, to the town square and the shops. This was an added advantage as my friend is 78 and has difficulty walking a great distance. All in all for what we paid for the month I thought we got a good deal and will certainly be booking again in the not to distant future

Fuengirola is good location to stay, you have metro to Malaga and busses to Girbraltar. Hotel el Puerto is a little better than average hostel but its quite poor when comparing it to other hotels. That´s why it feels that they are taking overprice in hotel el Puerto. Rooms are old but held tidy, especially bathrooms are cleaned every day. Service at front desk is not good. Front desk personnel is not really keen to help you. For examble we had requested non-smoking room, but we got a room, where was quite heavy tobacco smell. When we complained we were told that every room is non-smoking. There was non-smoking sign but also ashtrays in our room. It felt that personnel really didin´t bother to do anything, even to check situation in our room. Breakfast was ok. I would´t coose this hotel second time.

Room Tip: Ask for a room from the seaside of the building.

stayed in the el Puerto from 25-12 till 1-01-2012.
the rooms are small but clean, first day we had a room at the back of the hotel
and the view was awful, the room stank and the water was black when i turned on the tap.
the hotel room had not been used for two months and the traps had dried out ,filling the room with the smell of sewage
i demanded another room ,and was given a sea view the next morning.
no festive spirit in the hotel ,no entertainment for the duration of my stay.
we was told more than halve the rooms are privately owned and a lot of owners don't sublet, hence the fact that the hotel was nearly empty.
my guess is that there were only about 30 guests in the hotel.
reception staff were not very helpful and grumpy.
the food was basic, not much variation and always cold, not helped by the fact that for the first 3 days the microwave was out of use.
at the back of the hotel are a few cheap pubs and open late ,Tommy and stevie from the quell bar (£1.80/pint)are great hosts and made our holiday, they also provide free wifi to the customers.
the wifi in the hotel is a rip off and cost an arm and a leg.
the swimming pool on the roof was closed for the first two days despite the lovely sunny weather and only opened after complaints from guests.
the hotel needs a bit of maintenance, window frames with peeling paint in the dining room, around the pool the plant boxes were full of weeds
and more worrying a lot of concrete rot were the skin of render has falling of the hotel exposing reinforcement steel in the concrete.
the steel railings on the roof(pool) were rusted away in places.
the location of the hotel is great, cross the road and you are on the beach by the marina.
a nice few hours out is a visit to the zoo in fuengirola at 17 euro or 11 euro for pensioners
would i go back to this hotel.....NO!!

Room Tip: if you want to stay here demand a sea view as the back rooms look out over the houses and dont have...
