“Not a bad place to stay if you've reached a certain age!”
Reviewed 24 July 2012

The Yaramar is a pleasant enough hotel with an entertainment programme catering for the older british holiday maker (nothing wrong with that I hasten to add). However, guests aged 55 and under may feel a little "out of place" and may not enjoy the entertainment provided (unless of course you like sun bed aerobics and the odd sing-a-long to a Vera Lynn song whilst sipping your sherry!)

The hotel in our opinion was clean and efficient with 4 speedy glass lifts to shuttle you up to your room (no good if you suffer from vertigo!). Rooms are comfortable and spacious but as mentioned by others, have a fridge that is locked unless you pay the rental for the week (approx. 15 euros). We always take a dim view of things like this. If you book a decent hotel, you shouldn't get charged extra!

The food was plentiful and of a good quality with efficient and friendly staff.

Outside the hotel is a nice beach although it can get very busy with local families during high season. There are several bars in the local area (just behind the hotel) and some very nice tapas bars in the town centre (head for the old square and check out the Theatre bar if you want a natter with some ex pats.)

We visited Mijas whilst there (a pleasant trip) and ventured into Marbella (very over rated and not worth the bus ride).

Overall a pleasant holiday for 1 week, however I doubt we would return due to the age of it's target audience and the limited bars / shops close to the hotel.

Surprisingly the pool sun beds get taken very early (can't blame the Germans this time!!)

Room Tip: A standard room is all you need. Request a room with a partial sea view.

From the time we arrived at reception we were disappointed, I know it was just before 12 noon but we were told to dump our luggage and come back in about an hour, at other golds it is suggested that you have a drink by the pool and they will come and find you when the room is ready. What can I say, the dinning room did not use the air conditioning and it was uncomfortable to eat, the selection was very repetitive. The entertainment was in a basement!! would you believe, who wants to go down there in the middle of summer, also from many of the seats you looked at a screen to watch the entertainment. How this hotel has 4 stars I don't know. There were broken glass in windows, cracked floors in the lifts and does not live up to the pictures in the Thomson brochure. The reps where the untidiest I have seen in a long time, when they came in for breakfast they hadn't even combed their hair.

Room Tip: the superior rooms are very spacious and do get a second visit by a maid in the evening.

Other than the Spanish sun nothing to remind you that you are in Spain at all.

Perfect for the English holiday maker who wants to feel completely at home. From 'the full English' fpr breakfast to the entertainment nothing Spanish at all. Home from home, particularly if you're from Yorkshire or anywhere up North.

I always thought that the TV documentary 'Benidorm' was O.T.T. but the Yaramar is 'Benny' in real life including the characters.

Can't wait to get back.

Room Tip: Ask for one as near the top of the hotel as possible. Wonderful views of the folk sunning themselve...

If you want to feel you are either in the West End or Broadway watching a show go to this hotel the entertainment was the best. The entertainment team work so hard and every show was professionally performed. Well done to Dan, Millie. Elle and Craig for the most enjoyable holiday. We had loads of fun joining in the activities around the pool and beach with the team of 4 above. Laura and Jesus entertained us most nights before the quiz/game shows were brilliant. All the other Thomson staff were friendly and very helpful especially Natalie Rainbow. The bar staff and waiters could not do enough for us. The food was plentiful with a wide variety of excellent dishes. The reception staff were always on hand and if you rang for service they were there within 5 minutes. The location of the hotel was spot on near the beach and shops. We meet some wonderful friends while we at the hotel which we will be keeping in touch with. All the other guest were so friendly. Would certainly go back to this hotel especially for the highly impressive entertainment team.

Room Tip: We were on the fourth floor over looking the beach which was cool at all times.

Yaramar only achieves 4 star because of pool. ideally situated between marina and railway station, but is sadly in need of a major makeover.Majority of double glazing units have broken down, cracked windows, and broken floors in the lifts, and sometimes no lighting in dark corridors.Dont waste money on a superior room, as, although they have floor to ceiling double glazed windows, the majority are leaking so you can't see out of them. Unfortunately, this hotel operates the biggest rip off on the costa del sol -16 euros a week non refundable for a fridge- only its not a fridge, its a larder, which is no use, as our milk went off overnight and we found the milk kept better in a corner of the balcony. The one reediming feature however was the restaurant, which we found to be 5 star, and the hard working staff were without exception, helpful and friendly. We gave up trying to work out the so called " happy hour," split between three bars - one the other side of the road - and instead found some extremely cheap and friendly bars in the roads immediately behind the Yaramar. One Gastro bar in particular we fell in love with called the "In Nova" two streets immediately behind, and owned by the most charming young man "Antonio ". He is Michelin trained and we couldnt get enoughof his Tapas -all home made and like no other tapas in Spain. If you go there try his toasted goats cheese and honey salad. Absolutely mouth watering. Would we go back to the Yaramar, yes,but not until there had been a full refurbishment, and Thomson need to look at this as a matter of urgency.

Room Tip: Dont waste money on upgrades

Have just returned from 2 weeks at the Yaramar, which was made memorable by the 4 young and wonderfully talented entertainment team. Millie, Elle, Dan and Craig never failed to impress and put on a highly accomplished and very entertaining and professional show 5 nights a week, all different, showcasing their wide ranging talents. They were all very friendly and always had a smile and a friendly word. They clearly enjoy what they are doing and work extremely hard as they also provide entertainment, fun and games around the pool area and on beach during the day.

Should also mention Laura & Jesus, the duo who played 6 nights a week and were also very good. The hotel has a very friendly atmosphere, and we met and made friends with some very nice people during our stay. The staff, particularly bar staff are all very friendly and hard working. The happy hours at various times offering 2for1drinks made them very reasonably priced.

The rooms are comfortable with great views of pool and sea, there was plenty of choice at the buffet for both breakfast and dinner. The only minor complaint was that the free wi-fi offered was very hit and miss and almost non existant from room, but did not detract from all the other plus points. Would certainly recommend this hotel, for it's location, friendliness and the highly impressive entertainment team.

Stayed at the Yaramar 29th June for 2 weeks. The whole hotel needs a refurb. Never been to a 4 star hotel were you have plastic glasses in your room and don't get me started on the plastic cups around the pool (we are adults)when the entertainment was outside rather than down in the 'Dungeon'. The food was repetative and dull the best night was the spanish themed night, the dining room was hot and busy as only minimal staff on. All the staff were great though.
Apart from the hotel and the resort looking abit sorry for itself the beach was lovely and the weather was great had some enjoyable days out with family, Bioparc in Fuengirola, Cablecar in Benalmadina, bus to Mijas and train to Torremolinos.
