We booked this holiday three weeks before departure as a Thomson Platinum deal, at a great price for a four star hotel. First impressions of the Florida Spa certainly live up to the brochure, it is well positioned within the resort, the reception area is spacious and the reception staff were friendly, extremely efficient and were typical of the first class staff throughout the hotel. We were given a 5th floor superior room that was large, with tea/coffee making facilities, ample wardrobe and drawer space and a free safe. We had a view over the pool and although some reviews suggest higher floors are better because of an over looking problem we had no problems. The bathroom was enormous with a full size bath and walk in shower, but it was here the first of my minor criticisms of the hotel were. Some general maintenance was required, a shower head was loose on the wall as was the bath filler and the socket outlet near the hair dyer. Worst of all the walk in shower door had probably never fit properly and at times water came onto the bathroom floor.
The pool area was great with ample sun beds for the time of year we were there, it might get very crowded in high season though, the pool was small and not great for swimming, the maximum depth was only 1.2m I think and this for less than half the pool, but the beach and sea is only 100m away so it isn't a real problem.
The restaurant was a reasonable size with good opening hours and a good sized buffet, but while I always found ample food to eat on an evening, it was awfully bland and the paella was the worst I have ever tasted, sometimes quality is better than quantity. The restaurant staff were fantastic people and a credit to the restaurant manager who made everyone feel welcome when they came through the door, she had exceptional people skills.
We very rarely stayed in the hotel on an evening and when we did it the entertainment wasn't really to our liking, although a lot people did. The daytime entertainment was quite varied and different, the noticeboard suggested off site visits to attractions which was something I hadn't experienced before, a great idea.
Despite a few disappointments I would definitely return to the Florida it really was value for money.
