June 2013 - I have been staying with Maria the owner of this hotel & hostel Mena for 7 years. This year I was very disappointed as Maria and her team although had confirmed the price with me by email, when we checked out they charged up over 200 Euros more. Even though I had the confirmation with me in black & white & they admitted they had made a mistake they refused to take responsibility and insisted we paid. On checking out infact they turned very nasty and threatened us with the police, as we were running to a tight schedule and due to catch a flight we had no alternative but to pay. We asked to speak with Maria face to face but she did not make herself available to us.

We can highly recommend this hotel in Nerja. Rooms and bathroom are nice and clean, balcony fine, and the location couldn't be better. Breakfast is simple, but with everything you need.
Only a few minutes walk to the litle beach, and less then 10 minutes to a long beach when the citybeach is too hot. Streets and buildings in Nerja are beautiful, and there are a lot of restaurants prices very reasonable. We are comming back!

Room Tip: Very small swimmingpool on the top terrace. We did not ask for roomservice, but cleaning was well done.

I booked this hotel based on the reviews I had seen. We had not been to Nerja before and needed a base as we were going to look at an appartment there and look over the area so this hotel was idealy located, close to the lovely town and a beach and yet you did not get all the noise at night that you would normally associate with being so near to it all
The staff were great very friendly and the rooms were clean and had most of what you would require. I say most because when I fancied a bath it did not have a plug but at least I could shower, having said that I am sure if I had asked for one I would of got one. The only other niggle I had was I hated the long pillow on the bed it gave me neck ache
The pool area was great my Husband and I had it to ourselves once but even when there were other people about it was very relaxing to just lie there and while the world away
Would of been nice had they had a bar but there were enough to choose from nearby and it might not of been so quite if it had so it is swings and roundabouts on that one
Liked sitting on the balcony over looking the square people watching

We stayed in Mena Plaza for a week. On the Málaga airport we rented a car and made the 50 minute drive to Nerja. Our car had a navigation system but when you don't have itjust follow the "balcon de Europa' signs which guide you to the underground parking. When we checked in we've asked for a reserverd parking space. For €9 per day we could rent this in a part of the garage only available for hotel guests. The only disadvantage is that the light in the parking does't switch on when you enter. There are buttons on the walls to put the lights on. (Some lights are always on but give poor feeling of security)

The rooms are OK. We had a room on the second floor facing the square. Sun in the morning.
This room had a small refrigirator to fit our own bought drinks. The only thing missing is a nice chair to sit in. The room was being cleaned everyday.

Green hotel.
You can only turn the airconditioning on when the balcony doors are closed.
The temperature of the AC is fixed on 23 degrees which seemed a bit warm to us but is realy cool enough during the night.

Towells are being renewed only when you put them on the ground.

The swimmingpool is on the 4th floor (rooftop)
It's a clean en tidy area with sunbeds and parasols and small tables on the same level as the sunbeds. There's even a toilet and changingroom.
The pool isn't too big but two persons can swim next to eachother.

The breakfast was very good. They served several sorts of white bread, cereals and a lot of fresh fruit. The breakfast was served in the entrance area of the hotel.

We enjoyed a nice break at this hotel just recently. It is centrally located yet not disturbed by the noise from the nearby bars and restaurants. There is a nice rooftop pool with god quality loungers and a great view. The rooms are modern and comfortable. The emphasis is on functionality and not so much on style and deign. The feeling one gets is quite Scandinavian, ikea, ibis style approach to furniture and overall aesthetic. It's okay,
One of the relaxing things about staying in a nice hotel is the idea that you can use the bar for a nightcap after an evening out or to meet before going out for dinner. That is not possible here. They advertise hotel bar but its just a dispensing counter from which the receptionist would come to serve you, which is a small disappointment.
There is little to complain about because this hotel meets requirements, it's just not individual or characterful, homely or greatly welcoming, it's functional ,it's clean, it's modern and it's a nice place.

Room Tip: Ask for room to front so as to enjoy the view on to Plaza Espana..
