Good quality seafood set in an upmarket restaurant, with exemplary service. Reserve a table if you want a great view, and its not cheap, but very good and ideal for a special occasion.

Puerta del Mar is so very close to the central Balcon de Europe - however as it is tucked down a small arcade, many people must pass it by without being aware of its existence.

The restaurant is stylish with elegant table settings. There are superb views of the Mediterranean, Calahonda Beach below and across to the Balcon de Europe seen through the floor to ceiling sheet glass windows - so best to try to reserve a table near to the window.

They specialise in fish and seafood - it is the very freshest and viewable on ice in a refrigerated display counter.

We went for lunch. After ordering drinks they presented us with a most generously sized complimentary appetiser comprising of seafood items and peppers.

Both chose 6 oysters each (€2.80 per oyster) to start. These were very good.

For main courses one chose Cod cooked house style €18 and the other chose Sopa de Mariscos €7.20. The fish was absolutely fresh and cooked in a casserole with potatoes, peppers, garlic, capers and herbs. It was very delicious. The soup was a touch more expensive than elsewhere; however it was worth it - the fish soup had generous pieces of fish and shellfish - not bulked out with cheaper ingredients as is the case in some other restaurants and was served with style at the table from a tureen.

The service was impeccably professional throughout - attentive without being intrusive.

In summary - as other people have stated - not the cheapest but worth it for the quality and freshness of the food.

The evening ambience is poor with very bright lighting and stark functional furnishings. No candles , flowers or colour--also quite cold. I can imagine however that lunch on a sunny day would be pleasant if you had a table by the window overlooking the sea
The fish soup was excellent but probably the most expensive I've had at nearly £8.50 a bowl. However the shared plate of fried fish and shellfish was chewy , greasy , and some of the small fish overcooked or past their sell by !
Fortunately we complained and were spared the £16 price which was taken off our bill without any fuss.
Service was attentive and friendly but the fact that the place was nearly empty may have been a clue.
Sorry but not a good experience.

Undoubtedly rated as one of the best restaurants in Nerja. Situated only some 50 metre from the Balcon de Europe, it is very easy to find.
It is seriously a fish restaurant, the variety of product is outstanding, but, if on your pre meal booking you do not see your particular choice, they will do their very best to source that which you require.
For meat lovers, however, there also some top cut meat dishes available.
There were four of us went, we all went for the fish dishes.
A small dish of olives was presented whilst we considered the menu, followed by warm bread rolls and a large dish of mixed salad to pick at whilst our meal was being prepared.
The two ladies went for Prawn Cocktail and us two fellars went for the Gambas Pil-Pil. I prefer Gambas al Ajillo, which is less spicy and more garlic but that which we had was delicious with plenty of the bread so as not to leave the olive oil juice!!
Again, there was a split in choice, the two ladies went for the Merluza ( Hake ).Rebozada. By their comments, it was outstanding, but the portions were too large.
We men had no problems with the portions, we managed to cope! We went for the Lubina ( Sea Bass ) which was de-boned at the table. Absolutely brilliant.
To finish, our sweets were generous and very enjoyable.
The service we were given was one of the best I have enjoyed even during my world travelling working life.
It is not cheap, but if you want the best, try this for size!
Whilst you eat, do not forget the lovely view through the end of restaurant windows of the ocean.

Without a doubt this is the best restaurant in Nerja for a number of reasons. First, the view directly above the sea, location close to the Balcon de Europe, quality of service and of course the seafood. It has quite a formal atmosphere, but very friendly and professional service and a great choice of fresh fish and shellfish. There is a lobster tank and also glass enclosed counter displaying the large selection of fresh fish. The salt baked seabass was very good value, as well as the local small clam platter, prawns, hake and of course the lobster. It is not the cheapest but the quality makes it well worthwhile.
