“A surprise find”
Reviewed 16 July 2012

We spent a week in one of the apartments at the Perla Marina, Nerja and had a wonderful time. Although the apartments are a bit dated, they are very spacious, well kept, comfortable and close to the beach which is practically on your doorstep.
The hotel amenities were fine - including a rather small swimming pool. That said when you have a choice of beaches all of which are within a 5 minute (or less) walk, there is no reason to complain. The hotel staff were extremely friendly, helpful and courteous and the breakfast buffet was nice as breakfast buffets go. But there are so many other restaurants within striking distance and the town centre of Nerja is less than a 15 minute walk away.
Some of the nicer restaurants near by include the El Chamiza tapas bar which is across the road to the hotel which was a real find. El Chamiza is a perfect example of what a good tapas bar should be and serves up a huge range of mouth-watering dishes for a few euro a plate. I would thoroughly recommend this. Having read some of the previous reviews about The Codfather, I was deeply disappointed when we ate there one night. The food was awful and you could see the chef microwaving just about everything that landed on his workbench. Even the fish was awful and appeared to have the consistency of a frozen fish. Dodgy pub grub is how I would describe it. Elsewhere Cafe Jamaica was very good as was the Chinese just up from it (the name of which I can't remember). Then in Nerja itself, there is a raft of good restaurants that cater for all palates, most of which are pretty good. If you want to head to Buriana Beach, which is about 10 mins in a taxi, then you have to try Ayo, which serves up the best paella in the world. No kidding!
This is our third time in Nerja and the area where Perla Marina is located (Toricella, I think) is a great area. Safe, clean and with great beaches (somewhat stoney though), I would recommend it. And I would recommend the Hotel and the apartments and villas that are part of the complex.

Room Tip: A sea view is a must

We went for 4 days for a wedding and after reading the reviews before we went were worried but from the min we walked in everyone was helpful. We had a sea view room which was Fab, we keep the window open every night listening to the sea which was so lovely. I would recommended this hotel to anyone, hopefully we will go and stay again for longer next time . Nerja itself is wonderful so many nice places To eat and walk around, don't be put off by other reviews I only tell the truth and this hotel is very good.

Room Tip: Upgrade to sea view worth it, if you have a car no need to use hotel car park as there is a cost, pl...

This hotel is just outside the main town but only a 10 minute walk away, the advantage of this is that the hotel has a seafront location and a big garden and pool area. we staying the the garden rather than going onto the beach as this was closer to the bar (and other facilities). Beach towels are available from reception on payment of a deposit. We tend to visit in May or November as we get the benefit of the warm weather but without the summer crowds. Breakfast could be improved but are adequate to start the day with. Our favourite place to eat and drink is Bamboos which overlooks the sea and just off the promenade that you walk along to get into the town centre.

Room Tip: Ask for the old part of the hotel as the new building is accross the street. The 'partial sea v...

Booked this hotel for 3 days.....when we got there, there was no parking in the underground lot. We had to drive around and around until we saw an open spot near a park 4 blocks away. Parking is a nightmare. Staff said there was a festival on but we never saw anything. Our room was tiny with a hard double bed. We insisted that they move us as soon as was possible The next room was only a little bit bigger with a bigger bed. This hotel is in need of a huge update. Carpets in the hallways are worn out and dirty. We did manage to get a parking spot after the weekend was over and the staff was fairly helpful and friendly. Breakfast was just OK. Bacon was uncooked and the juice watered down. Have to say that there are many restaurants in the area and we had a fabulous Chinese dinner a couple blocks away on a corner. Beach out front is rocky and pebblely with not much sand. Would not stay here again and agree with others that this is more like a 2 star not a 4 star.

Room Tip: If you have to stay ask for a seaview!

Just back from Nerja, booked Perla Marina at the last minute for a 4 day break, only booked B & B because we were attending a party on the Saturday & would be with friends most evenings.
Having read numerous reviews was a tad concerned as I'd booked it on price and availability. Need not have worried, staff were excellent, helpful and friendly. Even told us that the on road parking was free if we could find a space, just to let them know if we moved the car. Hadn't booked see view but had a side room which could see up the coast. Room spacious and very clean. Breakfast was adequate, plenty of choice. Plenty of sun beds at the pool and the beech, was about 5 yards away. It's has a great location. Someone said about no kettle, never stayed in a Europian hotel that offer that service.

Stayed in Perla Marina end of May 12. Really enjoyed our stay, best pool ever for late evening sun. Booked half board but would not do this again, too many nice restaurants in Nerja. Only about 15 minutes walk from balcony de Europa. Had lovely room and balcony with sea view Would recommend this hotel. Ber and Chris Dublin

Room Tip: Book a sea view. Lovely big balcony and quiet at night.
