“Easter break away - Nerja fab hotel loverly just bigger balconies!”
Reviewed 5 June 2014

The location of the hotel was beautiful, as it was Easter time and the weather was very pleasant the hotel was not overly crowded. The rooms were a bit on the small side. We had a balcony if you could call it that - just space to step out & you over looked the road. The rooms at the back of the hotel overlooking the pool & sea seemed to have lovely, decent balconies. We stayed for 7 nights & I found the room a bit small for that amount of time would have preferred to have gone for the self catering route. The breakfast was lovely. When we asked for the room for a few extra hours the evening we were leaving there was no problem at all with the staff. The roof top pool in the annex building was not open which was unusual for the Easter time I thought. New sun loungers a must for this summer. Others a little dangerous. Wouldn't stay up.

Room Tip: When booking ask for room with sea/pool view or the annex hotel seemed to have nice spacious balconi...

We looked at a lot of the comments about this Hotel before we went. A bit apprehensive I must say. However, we found the staff very pleasant and helpful. The rooms were clean and kept tidy. We didn't find the beds too hard and had a fantastic sea view from the room (which we had booked beforehand). The room was small, but we used it for its purpose, sleeping and showering. We booked B&B. The buffet breakfast was OK and set us up for the day ahead. We didn't have time for looking for little issues which I'm sure there must have been, given the age of the Hotel. For the price we found the Hotel very good suited our purpose of a nice little break in Nerja. A pleasant, friendly Hotel is what we wanted and that's what we got!

Room Tip: Book a sea view well ahead.

Just like many of the other reviews say this is a 3 star hotel. It's comfortable generally but the beds are rock hard and the rooms small. The shower leaked on the floor - just a bit!! We had a sea view balcony. Excellent location for staying. Beach is fairly rough gravel so not good for building sand castles - nor barefoot walking!! Website says there's a rooftop pool - there is but it is only open in high season. Ground floor pool is good though small with uniform depth of 1.4m. Cleaning and front desk staff we found very helpful and friendly. Downstairs bar staff need to do the smiling course - not very friendly. Beach towels available from Reception for free. A major added expense is that the beach has loungers and cushions for rent (not part of the hotel). They cost €4 per person per day regardless of usage time. So budget for an extra €8 per day for beach comfort. Nearby public bus will take you to the markets on Tuesday (new items) or Sunday (second hand market). Fare is a fixed €1. Walk time is about 20 minutes. Breakfast is in a vast dining area but the hot food is cooked early so by 9am everything is almost cold and unappetising. The 'chef' cooks fried eggs but will not do an omlette - despite the fact that he was doing nothing most of the time. Cold choices were good and staff very helpful. The room is in the second part of the hotel on the non-seaside of the road - there's an underpass to get there. Would we stay there again? - yes, there is nothing really bad about the place. I would think that in high season the pool area would be very small and the breakfast area very very busy. The hotel also has adjoining apartments which use the hotel facilities. Finally the wi-fi was very poor and unreliable and only available in public areas.

Room Tip: Like all the other reviews say a sea view room is very nice!!

Old fashioned. It can be pejorative, comfortable or condescending with the Perla Marina it could be all three. It was a little like travelling back to the 80's, surprisingly small rooms, thick blankets with foam pillows, dark carpets and wood everywhere. But elsewhere the hotel does retain a quaint charm which unfortunately does not travel to the restaurant which could not cope and definitely delivered 80's quality food and service.

However the hotel does have its plus points, the sea view rooms in the main building are nearly on the beach and the staff are attentive and courteous and the cleaning staff do a great job. Unfortunately the hotel does not live up to its 4 star status - neither the rooftop pool or sunbathing area in the annexe was open in May for example and the sunbathing area and small pool in the main hotel are inadequate and the furniture was in a state of disrepair.

If you are looking for a well located venue at a reasonable price with 2/3 star standards then if the price is right and your expectations are not too high you probably wont be disappointed.

Room Tip: Beware Spanish Bank Holidays - the hotel is very popular with the locals who 'invade' the ho...

We were very wary after booking this hotel after reading some of the reviews on here. Here are some tips for those arriving and to the people who were disappointed! 1. If you want a sea view pay for it why should you expect an upgrade if you haven't paid for it even if the hotel is not full! 2. Most holiday companies class this as 3 star even though the official rating is 4 star. 3 The roof top pool is not open yet and the pool area in the old building is very small and the sun loungers old and tired and extremely uncomfortable. 4. Breakfast is basic the orange juice and coffee both come from machines but this is standard in Spain! 5. If you want a 5 star experience after paying such a low price then you won't get it here! However if you want a clean comfortable basic room in a lovely location then that's what you will get! Nerja is a stunning town and you will enjoy wandering around the old town sampling the fantastic tapas bars and superb restaurants. We will certainly return to Nerja and this hotel simply because we got what we paid for. A special mention to the cleaning staff who worked diligently all the time we were there and always had a smile and a hello whenever we passed! Enjoy Nerja you won't be disappointed.

Staff friendly and inside of hotel clean and tidy (including our room in the annexe).
Swimming pool area was a disgrace, as was breakfast and buffet at night. Food was of poor quality and a very limited choice. Some evenings there was only one waiter on duty!
One star plus rating!

Room Tip: Pay extra for a sea view

Just returned from the Perla Marina and cannot fault this hotel or the resort of Nerja.
My only complaint is that we booked the holiday with a sea view room in the main hotel and on arrival we were given a room in the annexe which was behind the main hotel.(still a sea view room but further back from the beach).
When we booked we were told by Low cost holidays that the main hotel didn't open till the first week of April and as we weren't getting there till the 9th we thought we'd be ok. (make sure you check with your operator when booking).
Our room was a good size with twin beds, dressing table, easy chair and mini fridge which was a nice touch.
Bathroom with w.c. bidet, shower over bath and hair dryer.
The tv was really old with the strangest remote control i've ever seen, bad picture and NO English channels whatsoever.
What's wrong with these Spanish hotels. I know you don't go on holiday to watch tv but sometimes you just want to watch or listen to tv while your getting ready to go out.
Come on Spain your hotels must be 70% full of British speaking people. (rant over)
The hotel rooms, the reception, dining room and pool are very clean and the staff are very friendly. The maids were great and came in every day.
The location is great, right on the beach and a 10 min stroll into the main town square and the Balcon de Europa.
There are no big bars or nightclubs near the hotel so there's no problem sleeping.

We stayed b&b and found the food at breakfast very nice with plenty of choice although the hot food was only luke warm. (there is a microwave near the hot food section).
The resort of Nerja is fantastic for beaches, shops, bars, tapas restaurants etc
To sum up - great hotel in a great location, we will definitely be back.

Room Tip: we stayed in room 352 in the annexe. good size room with sea view and sun in the afternoon
