We stayed here after a hectic and very enjoyable three day birthday party in the hills near Granada, so what we were looking for was peace and quiet and sunshine - and that's exactly what we got. Nerja is in danger of being overwhelmed by tourism but the parador has its own quiet space. It feels like an ocean liner that has just had a major refit. The rooms are good, with a decent size balcony and big bathroom. The dining room has a terrace which in April, was just right for eating breakfast on. The menu makes clear that you could spend a lot of money on meals but breakfast was included and we ate well off the snack menu for lunch (about £30, given the falling pound, for the two of us eating one course and having a beer). Big swimming pool and well kept grass around it. There was a lift down to the beach, but if you want the beach then you have to accept all the tacky stuff that goes with it.
Check out was a bit difficult because the bill was divided into several different parts and it just took time to match it against the price we had been quoted. If you want a lot of action I wouldnt go here but if you want good service in a very good hotel (and you can find the right rate- the pricing seems to vary) then I think it's a great place to stay.

For people who stay in Paradors regularly, this hotel is at the poor end of the Parador spectrum.

The location is excellent, on a cliff top above the best beach in Nerja, with a lift down to the beach. There is a small swimming pool, which was still open in October, and a lovely grass area for sunbathing, overlooking the sea.

The hotel however was built in the 60s and is begging to show its age in places. The carpets are all looking grubby in the common areas. The standard doubles, with a sea view are very small and poorly appointed by Parador standards, although the bathrooms are nice, with two basins. Personally I would have preferred a smaller bathroom and larger room. Each room has a nice balcony overlooking the sea.

We started off our stay with just my son and I and then my wife joined us and because the sea view rooms will only accomodate 2 we moved into an "ordinary room". They are the same price, but I would recommend them. The room does not have a sea view, but is about 3 times the size and much better decorated and appointed.

We also had some minor problems with reception staff, one or two of whom were particularly surly and unhelpful.

On the first night the outside temperature had been nearly 28 degrees centigrade, but because it was October a decision had been made to disable the aircon. Despite complaining we spent a very uncomfortable night. The next day it rained and temperature was no longer an issue. The previous hotel in Cordoba still had aircon. Why the different policy in the same chain of hotels?

Nerja itself is OK considering it on the Costa del Sol. Pretty whitewashed houses and narrow alleys, but even here there are a few unsightly cafes and pubs advertising fish and chips etc. Why do we still have to export our appalling cuisine to somewhere like Spain. There are hundreds of restaurants and it is difficult, but not impossible, to find good spanish food. We ate one night in the Parador, which was excellent.

Overall I have mixed feelings. I think it is probably as good as your going to get this near the coast, but in future we will be sticking to the inland Paradors.

Agree with the previous review with one exception - we thought the food very disappointing on our first night and we therefore ate out on the other nights. That said, the buffet breakfast was excellent with a wide choice and very efficient service from staff. Overall staff were efficient and courteous but not particularly friendly.

We booked a superior double room and I would recommend asking for the top floor which gives a full sea view - we had room 315 which was probably one of the best in terms of the view. 312, 314, 316 would also be good.

The hotel is on top of the cliffs with the garden and pool all on the sea side - which makes sunbathing etc. really nice and relaxing. Pool is excellent - not too big, not too small.

The location is just on the fringe of Nerja and the nicer side - just 8 mins to the Balcon de Europa with lots of eating places to suit all budgets.

I would recommend the Hotel Carabeo on Calle Carabeo for more sophisticated dining - the food is superb albeit more pricey.

Stayed here for 10 nights in September and could not fault the place. Staff are attentive and friendly. The grounds were very pleasant. Food in the hotel restaurant was good and if somebody was going to Nerja I would recommend them staying at the Parador. We drove from Malaga and as other reviews have pointed out the Parador is well signposted
The hotel recommended some excellent fish restaurants.
Stay here and you will not be dissaponted.

My husband and I rented a car in Barcelona and drove down the coast in Spain. Our final destination war the Parador in Nerja. It was the most fabulous place we've ever stayed. We have stayed at many four and five star places in the US, including the Carribean and Mexico. I wish Nerja was closer so we could visit more often. Our room with terrace went right out to the lawn right to the pool. It is on a cliff where you can take an elevator to the beach. The beach has many bars/restraunts to enjoy that are more relaxing than the Parador which is a little stuffy (although you can order drinks and take to the pool). Five minute walk to town. Definitely the best place to stay in Nerja. I can't wait to go back!

Paradors are usually well signposted, but if there is a prize for parador signposting, this one deserves it. Every exit of every roundabout from the outskirts of Nerja is very clearly marked.

The exterior appearance of the building, is, perhaps, unprepossessing, but once through the doors there is a delightful little cloistered garden which raises the spirits and makes you feel at home. The gardens are beautifully tended throughout, and disabled access to the lift to the beach appears to be in the course of construction. (We wondered what the disabled will do with the steps at the bottom on leaving the lift, however.)

We spent two nights in this Parador in a superior room, and needing simply to relax, soak in some sunshine and enjoy the delights of Creation from a large and relatively private balcony, it would be harder to find anywhere better.

The building has clearly been refurbished recently and is light and airy, although aspects of the design work are perhaps a little idiosyncratic to middle-aged tastes.

The attention for breakfast and middle of the day snacks and drinks on the terrace could not be faulted, and indeed all staff throughout the establishment were cheerful, helpful and attentive.

We were, however, disappointed by dinner in the restaurant. Parador menus can be tricky to navigate, but once mastered, usually result in an enjoyable outcome. Sadly, on this occasion, a fruit salad starter contained fruit of greater maturity than might have been ideal, prawns and avocado cocktail achieved plurality of prawns by the narrowest margin arithmetically available, and the dorada a la sal was not filleted with the same success as we have often enjoyed at far less prestigeous establishments.

So we would return to the Parador without hesitation, but we would dine out in the evening. Nerja is a delightful resort town, but has little to compel us to go back, however.

My wife and I stayed at the Parador in December. Although from the outside it may look like a dated place, the inside it is not. The room has a retro-70's feel to it, but done in good taste....The views from the balcony were spectacular, and the breakfast overseeing the bay was amazing. Best of all, the location is ideal - close to the beach, and within walking distance from shopping, restaurants, and bars. Like every Parador, this is a great place to relax.
