“Some tips on what to expect”
Reviewed 15 April 2014

Hotel right on the Balcon de Europe and pay approximately 30 Euros a night for the Sea Vista. Basic price in late February was 89 Euros for the landward view. We just looked onto a light well but the airconditoning was good, everything worked well and the price included an excellent northern European buffet that would last you all day. You can also help yourself to glasses of champagne.

They accept pets, we took a large dog.
If
Built over several floors they had a private beach some floors down but we never used it. Also we ate out as we were situated in the main square with plenty of choice. If you know where to look you will find a glass of wine and a small tapas pork/fish nearby for 1.5 euros!

You can get down some steps to the beach which is a series of small interconnecting coves and there is the usual beach bar availability and they cater for young children....icecreams.

We think that older children would be bored in Nerja but young children would like running in the pedestrianized street. Lots of fashion shops for the ladies, souvenir shops here seem to be more upmarket and the pedestrianisation of the very centre makes it pleasanwt to walk around.

Now the downside is that it is very difficult to drive with some really tight turns for your car. Parking is free some minutes from the beaches but be careful not to leave valuables on display. YOU have been warned.

The hotel is not approachable by car so take the telephone number and their concierge staff will meet you or send your passenger in from the car to get a porter. This is the best idea and he will show you where to park your car through a maze of subterranean tunnels. This is an adventure but the rate for 24 hours is 13+ Euros but that is cheaper than the municipal car park underground. It also means that when you emerge through a secret door you are about 1 minutes walk from the Hotel.

A town that is charming and if you want sophistication stay a few days here before going to a classic beach.

About 1.5 hours drive from Malaga along the coast.

Of season the reception staff say there are good deals on the internet for 3 days or more so check out before you come. You will not be alone here as there are plenty of British, German, Dutch and other northern Europeans here and English is widely spoken.

The town has catholic, Anglican and Charismatic churches that will always make you welcome but on the internet study the street plan before you come or you will be lost.

Enjoy and be blessed in the Sun.

Chris, Anna and our dog.

Stayed here for a week beginning of April & had read previous reviews so was not surprised when we checked in - we took the lift to our room after check-in only to find a blank white wall through the room window instead of a sea view & balcony which we had paid for through Monarch Package! Back to Reception complete with luggage, only to wait & watch, wait & watch - while they sorted it out. Such a sham/shame? because our next allocated room was a dream, which is what we paid for. Had a super duper week, fantastic staff, very, very clean rooms, ginormous comfy bed, lots of drawers & storage, free safety box, big bathroom with powerful shower over big bath, lovely plush towels, lots of upmarket toiletries, luxury beach towels from reception, not sure how fridge worked as it was locked with no key, but we didn't need it.

There are loads of places to sit & read if it rains (which it did for 2 days!), & you don't feel pressured to buy drinks! Drinks in hotel not expensive, we had 2 glasses red wine every evening, for less than €5.

Pool is very small, but it's heated! And sunbathing area round pool is small, but for adults it's fine, as the hotel beach is accessed via the lift through hotel, & the hotel provide sunbeds & parasols free of charge on the small beach, so you don't have to worry about the small pool area.

We do feel however, that this Hotel should be advertised as an "Adult Only Hotel" - or as " not suitable for children" . The whole hotel has a calm, adult feel to it, & the pool definitely definitely is not suitable for children. Parents take note - nowhere at the pool for children to walk, play, or even be themselves. Check out photos - sunbeds, jacuzzi with 2 sunbeds on different level, small pool on different level.... Great for quiet, calm sunbathing adults, but nothing in pool area for children or even teenagers. And it's not fair on the children to take them there. No bar there, no staff, nothing except as described above.

Library with lots of English books, although it was locked & we didn't find out how to access it. Two separate lifts on either side of hotel, & depending on your room number, you may need to use both lifts to get to restaurant, pool &/or beach. You need to carry your room key card with you once breakfast is finished, as you need it to get round hotel, through corridors, into pool, beach area etc...

Would be helpful to have more info in room folder, as to layout of hotel, lifts, public rooms, pool, library, restaurant access etc., key card access etc.. We found all this by trial & error!

Buffet breakfasts brilliant, hot & cold, & especially the chefs who cooked my daily super omelette to order with my choice of cheese, tomatoes, mushrooms, onions etc.. each day! Crepes also cooked to order.

Evening meal - 2 days a week Tuesday & Saturday there is a super buffet - fantastic! Too much choice! Other days - a choice of 4 starters, 4 main, 4 puds - with a few bits on the buffet table as add-ons but we didn't really get to grips with those. Not sure what they were trying to do there. But - food was lovely. Enough choice, lovely food, & all hot enough so all good.

Sunrise! We got up early several days to watch the sunrise, & on our last day we actually went down - out of hotel onto the real Balcon - not just from our window - to watch the total Sunrise in the quiet peaceful area overlooking the sea. It is a dream.

Loved loved loved it. Thank you Balcon for a super week. Thank you to all the staff too. Fantastic. Everyone always smiling, & restaurant staff so easy, friendly & helpful. We will definitely return..... Can't wait.

We chose Hotel Balcón de Europa for a one night stop over on the way back to Málaga airport. Having been to the hotel before but just for drinks we knew the hotel was of a good standard and well located for our purpose. We had narrowed our options down to two, the other been a good quality hostal, however the price offered via Booking.com was good although the description was for an interior room without a seaview. Therefore we were delighted to be greeted on our arrival with a suprise upgrade to a junior suite with a wonderful view of the balcón and sea. The room was magnificent with the largest bed we have ever seen and comfy armchairs together with all the other comforts you would expect of a hotel of this standard. The buffet breakfast offered a banquet of everything we could have wished for and the all the staff were courteous, efficient and attentive. Staying for just one night, we did not have sufficient time to use all the hotel facilities but we would definitely like to return and stay longer. The hotel is well situated, Nerja is not a large town so it is within easy reach of shops, bars and restaurants. We used the public car park and unlike other reviewers we found it no more expensive than the hotel's underground car park but we are not sure if that is because it was low season. Balcón de Europa was definitely the better of our two options, the only disappointment is that we do not feel we did it justice in the very short time we were there.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a sea view.

We travelled in March and had surprisingly hot weather - we had breakfast and evening meal in the hotel and also ate twice in the fish restaurant at lunchtime, I enjoyed the food and the room was very comfortable with large beds and great views. Although this hotel in the middle of town it was very quite as the area nearby is pedestrianized and our room faced the beach. The hotel is very well maintained and clean, the staff were friendly and helpful. The rooftop Jacuzzi was well hidden and quiet. The rooftop swimming pool was small but heated and quiet too. We did not use the sauna.
We didn't travel around the area very much as we enjoyed relaxing on the beach and the terrace but a trip to the nearby village of Frigiliana is a must. We walked but you can easily get a bus for 1 euro or a taxi for around 12 euros.

Room Tip: we had a full sea view room on floor 1 which is just up from the beach and the only noise was the wa...

We stayed here for a fortnight in February. Overall our stay was very enjoyable, nice sea view room, bathroom small yet adequate. Great location with lovely ocean views. Breakfast was good, however evening meals failed to hit the spot. Some very efficient and friendly waiting staff, particularly the younger ones. A very traditional Spanish seaside hotel.

We recently spent a week at this delightful hotel. We stayed many years ago and were pleased to see that the hotel has been kept updated without losing its Spanish charm. It is clean, the rooms are excellent, particularly those with a sea view, and the catering is excellent. All the staff are welcoming and helpful. The breakfast buffet is good with hot and cold choices. Dinner is excellent with the speciality evenings a popular event. If you can squeeze in lunch then the El Nautico bar/restaurant is most enjoyable. The hotel overlooks the sea, and a pleasant evening stroll round the old town of Nerja finishing at the Balcon is most enjoyable. We were lucky with the weather although the evenings were cool. Nerja is worth exploring and the hotel Balcon de Europa is a super place to stay.

Room Tip: Book a sea view room for delightful views and a spacious room.
