“Good Hotel pity about the food.”
Reviewed 23 August 2014

We have just spent two weeks at the RUI Monica Hotel.
We had upgraded to a full sea view room which was large and had everything we needed. The bed was hard and very uncomfortable.
Everything was kept clean and the staff were pleasant.
The hotel overlooked the beach which was always very busy during the day.
Late at night teenagers liked to party on the beach sometimes until five in the morning so take your ear plugs if you are a light sleeper.
It had a nice pool area which was also kept clean. If you want to have sun-beds near the pool area you have to be down before 8.30 in the morning.
The food was terrible the worst in any hotel we have stay at.
We ended up eating salad and fruit. The meat was of poor quality and was overdone on the outside and often raw in the middle, this too was often the case with the fish. The bacon in the morning was crunchy and the eggs were sometimes black on the bottom but raw on the top.
Unfortunately the poor meals have put us off returning to this hotel.

We booked with thomson as a half-board holiday and arrived on the 12th for 10 nites. We were greeted at the entrace with a complementry glass of wine and checked in. The cases got taken up to the room for us, but we were in the room waiting for our cases when we could of just taken them ourselfs ,otherwise everything els was great, the room was nice with a fantastic view of the sea and mountains!. The room had a safe for money ect but at a fee of €22 and a minibar with drinks but had to pay for them. But there wasnt a kettle ? .The beds were comfy and the bathroom was nice, the room was allways kept clean. But got woke up by a maid opening the door and walking in not noticing that we were all still asleep:[.The restaraunt was really nice but the food didnt seem to vary loads over the 10 nites but the food was still very nice !. The waiters were friendly and were asking if we were having a nice stay whitch was nice. The bar area was nice and there was some great entertainment at nite.the was live music and flamenco while we were there and even the 4 tops !! .the drinks were reasonably priced but the cocktails were a bit dissapointing for €8.There was a games room for pool and tabletennis whitch was brill ! But the air-con didnt work(and was too hot to bear for 5 mins). The pool area was nice as there was a big pool and a baby pool ,both had activaties like water-polo and aerobics. Also darts, shooting for the adults in the day. The sunbeds were nice and there was more than enough for everyone, as you could sit round the pool or on a quieter garden area. There is a nice bar near the pool for food\drink around lunch-time.(was very nice). The hotel is rite on the beach;was very convenient. There was plenty of trips like to granada \alhambra whitch were fantastic!!.and the coaches were allways on-time.The hotel is having a refurb late 2015 whitch is needed as the rooms are a bit dated and some of the decor in the bar area looks strange. All in all the stay was very enjoyable and would reccomend the hotel and like to stay again one they have done the refurb in 2015. ☆☆☆☆

Another great stay at this excellent Hotel with Exceptionally polite and Professional Staff the Director and assistant manager always on hand and constantly visiting restaurant and Hotel area's to ensure everything is spotless and to your liking , Daily Activities from the Entertainments team by the Pool and constant activities for the Children by the Entertainments crew ( many thanks to Dumi and his Staff ) A massive thankyou to all the Hotel Staff from the Director to the Chamber maids who make this Hotel what it is I wrote to Louis Rui in Person last year expressing our Gratitude and Thanks and will again do so this year this Hotel and The Riu Group are a Credit to the Industry .

A Hotel with Exceptional standards , right on the Beach , Numerous Resturants , Bars etc right outside the Front Door ( Don't let this Put you off ) its not noisy late at Night just great Area to chill out after Dinner and a day on the beach only 5 - 10 Mins walk to Centre of Nerja for numerous further resturants , Bars , Shops etc

Don't let the reviews on lack of English TV Channels , Poor Towels , etc Put you off stay at home if you want Sky ( you don't go on Holiday to watch TV )

All in all a fantastic Hotel and Staff for all Clients ; Families , Couples , Older People its got it all in the area

Also just like to mention the newly Opened " Salt & Pepper " Bar / Resturant directly opposite the Front Door Great for Lunchtime / evening Snacks & Meals run by a lovely Irish Lady and a Great Northern Chef ( According to our 13 Year Old the Best Burgers by Far ) and the Best Sunday Dinner we have ever Had abroad all food cooked from fresh and reasonable prices but you need to book in advance for Sunday Dinner Also we tried the recently opened Mexican again right outside the Front of the Hotel again great food

On a sad note our Holiday was some what Spoiled by my Partner been rushed into Hospital with Severe Breathing Difficulties on the 2nd day which was further exasperated for her by the Total lack of Cooperation from our Travel Insurers ( Holiday Safe ) who refused to pay for her medical costs because she was rushed into a Private Clinic / Hospital ( they later stated she should have gone to a Public Hospital further Inland ) and our Policy did not cover Private Clinic Care ; Luckily the Halifax via my Ultimate Reward Account came to our Rescue as my Bank account Travel Insurance covers up to £10 million Private Medical Care ( if you want good Travel Insurance go with the Halifax Most Professional and Helpful and matters sorted within Minutes ) Don't go with " Holiday Safe " Premier Travel Policy its a rip off

Room Tip: Try request a Room on 4th Floor level or above for best Views or if you wish to pay more grab a Top...

Had an excellent week here in August. The hotel is immaculate - really clean and neat, with friendly staff and very enthusiastic manager and entertainment team. The pool area is lovely, with a good atmosphere and so close to the beach you can easily nip for a swim in the sea when you get too hot. Our room was billed as having a 'limited sea view' but we found it far from limited - it was lovely watching people bodyboarding from our balcony in the evening. Found some of the food a little samey/ sometimes a little odd for my tastes - but we broke this up by heading into town for dinner on a few evenings where you can great food at low prices and soak up the Spanish atmosphere. I'd recommend the Monica hugely and I'm sure we will be back.

We have just returned from a week at The Rui Hotel Monica and the hotel surpassed our expectations due to the professionalism of the staff. The Assistant Manager Sergio is very high profile, welcoming and helpful and this approach is mirrored by his staff. The location is excellent, next to the beach and within easy walking distance of the old town. The large gardens provide ample sun loungers and shade. For both dinner and breakfast there is a good variety of food served by friendly and helpful chefs and waiting staff. Rooms are comfortable and everywhere in the hotel is spotlessly clean. I would certainly recommend the hotel even without the refurbishment It is excellent value for money.

Having read a few reviews recently, I was a little concerned about the hotel, but it was unnecessary. The hotel is very good, exactly as I expect from a 4*. Some moans have been the lack of English TV - well, if this bothers you, I can recommend Cornwall! Thin pool teowels - OMG - they change them every day for you. "Tired" rooms, I'm not sure what people want, exactly. The furniture isn't modern, but there are plenty drawers and hangers in the large wardrobe, and the room is clean and a good size.
I liked the location, about 10 mins walk from the main square but with a row of bars opposite (I recommend the Ship) where you can have a drink or 3 away from the hotel entertainment.
There are small things, like the extractor fan from the kitchen positioned infront of a bush so that the smells hit the bush and travel upwards to the balconeys of the rooms where we were. Also, the wifi being 1 hour per day only was incredibly frustrating in these days. However, overall it was a good hotel which I was very happy to visit, and will be again after refurbishment in Nov 2015.

Room Tip: Higher floors are best, we were 5th floor which was excellent.

I have just returned from a fantastic relaxing holiday with my family at the rui monica. Having booked it online I was very happy to arrive at the hotel to be welcomed by the friendly hotel reception and offered a welcoming glass of bubbly. Our rooms were well located on the first floor with a key to the connecting room allowing us as a family to be alltogether. We had a slight sea view as described in the on line info which over looked the pool. The hotel staff were all extremely friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. My daughters and I all requested an extra pillow which was given to us without hesitation. On our first evening we were allocated a table in the restaurant and following our meal the head waiter asked If we were happy with this, we requested a table nearer the window which was arranged for us for the rest of our stay. No problems. It was lovely that at our welcome meeting on our first morning all heads of the hotel staff including the manager came along and introduced themselfs letting us know who they were and making us feel that nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is situated right on the beach front allowing you easy access to the beach through a coded gate. Whilst enjoying time around the pool or garden the waiters are more than happy to bring you refreshments which you can put on a tab so do not need to worry about leaving money unattended whilst in pool etc. Although the hotel rules are you can not reserve sun beds the usual people do but there was always beds available around the grounds not necessarily by the pool but plenty of shaded areas to keep out of the direct sun which suited us just fine. Lovely food and plenty of it even as we had choosen to dine at the later sitting fresh food was brought out so there was no less choice. Overall avery relaxing holiday with plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance. Recomend a short walk to the balcony of europe to experience spectacular views and lively evening entertainment. Turn right out of hotel and follow pavement up for about 15mins then turn right to be overwhelmed! Excellant holiday would recomend to anyone. The Gregory family
