“Don't worry!”
Reviewed 17 August 2008

Do not take too seriously the negative comments you might read. It is a three star hotel that is kept very clean, helpful staff and eatable food. As someone before said you cannot expect 5star when you are only paying 3star prices. The air con in the room is very noisy and ours did not work very well, this made us get up early which is not a bad thing when you are on holiday. As we like walking the location did not worry us but it is a bit of a treck into town and to the beaches, however you could always get a taxi for 6 euros. The entertainment at night was basic but at least they tried and always had an audiance. Would I go back, yes if like this time I was on a tight budget and that was on offer again.

I Booked this hotel as it stated in travel agents that it was an adults only hotel and also because it was a small hotel
when we arrived I was disappointed to find the hotel was on a main road.even more disapointed to find our two rooms were right on top off the roundabout overlooking the hotel bins which were visited by the local tramps.Very noisy 24 hrs a day woken constantly by traffic and guest. woken at 5am one moring by irish girl guest shouting from her balcony and across the road to her boyfriend not for just a few minutes but for over half an hour. SUPPOSED TO BE ADULTS ONLY HOTEL?
Complained about noise and the fact that hotel was full off screaming kids to rep all she said was "oh dont know what travel agents say" but clearely says in agents dettail ADULTS ONLY HOTEL. Not a miserable old git even my my son conplained about noise and he can sleep anywhere. Just want what i paid for. Bar staff could not cared if they served you or not ever round was a different price. Have written to agent and if i get no joy will conplain to abta.
Overall Nerja itself is a great place more old spain and the balcon is beatifull. Would go back but stay in another hotel .

We have just returned from a very nice family holiday at this very good little family run hotel. After reading some of the rubbish that certain people had written about it we were a bit apprehensive. As it turned out there was no need to be.We were 4 adults & 2 children & we all had a super time. The hotel was excellent for a 3 star.Great food.Comforable Room,Super staff.
Don't take any notice of the poor reviews they're obviously expecting 5 star for the price of a 3 star. This hotel represents very good value for money.

  • Liked — Good food. Clean. Value for money.
  • Disliked — Lack of Sun beds. but not unusual in small hotels

We booked our holiday through First Choice (late deal) allocation on arrival Half Board and were sent to the Nerja Club, Nerja. The hotel is about 40 minutes away from Malaga in the opposite direction from the main resorts of Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola etc. Nerja itself is on the coast with a nice cosmipolitan town and has some fantastic beaches and the Balcon de Europe (nice area overlooking the coast). The Nerja Club Hotel is situated at the top of the town and a walk into town involves some hill walking so a car would be a bonus. The Hotel is very clean and the food is very good for a 3* hotel with lots of choice and all freshly cooked. The rooms are fairly basic and the only down side for us was that the beds are quite hard and the pillows were too hard and high for us to sleep on, the shower is an old type that you hang on the wall (but it worked really well) there is a small tv with quite a few english channels and a small balcony. There is entertainment every night and from what we saw it was ok. We only stayed here for 2 nights because we went to stay in a friends appartmend in Calahonda (near Marbella) and closer to the main resorts. To round things off the Nerja Club Hotel is clean and well presented, the food is good but take a pillow with you, we enjoyed the 2 nights we were there and didn`t move because of the hotel but because we wanted to be further south where friends of ours live.

  • Liked — The hotel was clean and friendly with good food
  • Disliked — The location and beds

There is no doubt that you can please some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time!! Was my feeling after reading the wide variety of reviews on this hotel before I made my booking. After only a couple of days there I was pleased that I had ignored the negative reviews.
I can only envy and wonder at what magnificent surroundings and sumptuous 3* Hotel food critics of the Nerja Club must have experienced in other 3*hotels. As for me, after 30 years of extensive foreign travel the Nerja Club Food rates very highly indeed - I have stayed in hotels with higher star ratings with significantly inferior food quality. Breakfast offered a sufficient variety of choices, hot and cold, which more that equalled anything I have experienced in any UK/Irish, let alone foreign 3/4 star hotels. At dinner there was a pleasing and varied choice in starters, salad and main course; which in the 2 weeks I stayed was not replicated(sadly, as I really wanted to have the delicious Canelloni,Spag Bol, and Weiner Schnitzel etc again!) My only minor criticism was the limited choice of desert, but as there was always delicious fresh fruit and 3 flavours of ice cream it's hard to really complain!
Our room situation was ideal as my elderly mother has mobility difficulties and despite the various warnings of several steps in the hotel, she only had to negotiate 4 to get from our room to the pool area, other wise it was the lift to the dinning room. Again a minor criticism was the lack of soundproofing in the rooms, which may annoy a light sleeper. The hotel was clean, the staff friendly and helpful any request was dealt with pleasantly and efficiently, and while the decor may be rather outdated it was well looked after.
The Happy Hour and the nightly entertainment were much appreciated and very enjoyable as well as typically professional Costa entertainment. It also finished at a reasonably early hour of 11.30.While perhaps not appealing to those very much under 40, it was grand for those of us of a little more senior years and ideal for those even older who were mostly confined to the hotel.
While the hotel is some way out of the centre, which in some ways makes its position more attractive, it is still possible to walk into town - 15 mins or so at a good pace. A taxi back after sight seeing weariness sets in costs 6 Euro - there is a straight road back but has a slight incline.
I found the hotel perfect for mine and my mother's needs. There was even a sun lounge which was extremely useful during the couple of unusually inclement days we experienced, even the TV in the room kept us up to date with UK progs.
Surely it must be proof of the hotel's charm that I met there numerous repeat clients???? Some of whom returned 3x a year and had done so for the last 5/6 years! Saying that I too am considering a return visit! This after 30 years of travel will be a first to go back to the same resort let alone the same hotel.

we were so excited about going to the costa del sol, and when we arrived the hotel looked ok.

when we got inside we were met by unhelpful and unfriendly staff who didn't even show us to our room, which was to our dissapointment was down 3 flights of stairs and we had to carry our cases down all three flights. we also discovered that our rooms were under the swiming pool and dance stage.

the rooms were horrible and not well cleaned, the bathrooms were even worse, there was no window and lots of mold on the walls and ceilings. everything was dirty, and there was a large crack in the bath.

the bedding which we had had rips and tares and the beds were hard which made for an uncomfortable night.

the evening meal could only be eated from 7.30pm which didn't suit us. at first we didn't mind having a buffet dinner, but there was not much choice in food and the quality was very very poor.
Unless you liked piella you were stuck for much to eat.

The hotel was quite away from the beach. there was a steap hill to walk down the locals call it cardiak hill.

i would not recomend this hotel to my worst enemy.

We were a little worried with some of the reviews. But it was great a very clean attractive hotel ,polite friendly and helpful staff and very good food .Our room was just what we had asked for high with sea view ,a large bright room and full bathroom .If you do have walking difficulties you will need to hire a car , but we like to walk so for us just great .In all a very good holiday and we will go again , for us this is a very rare occurrence Mr & Mrs C Jackman
