Agree with all the good and bad reviews here. Our first visit was really good. Enjoyed all the tapas and excellent value as you also receive a free tapas platter if you order a bottle of wine.

So we decided to spend our last evening there and that's when disaster struck! The waiter (think people are calling him Oscar?) couldn't understand us and we (like others) had to write our order down for him. There seemed to be constant rows going on between the main guy and Julie in the kitchen which made it uncomfortable for everyone sitting inside to listen to that.

We then waited and waited for our food. The free tapas platter never arrived and when we eventually complained and asked where our food was after 45 minutes, we just got a shrug from the main guy. Food arrived 5 mins later but that was a hell of a wait for not much food. Because we thought we were getting the platter we had ordered one dish less, which meant that we were still really hungry by the time we left.

We basically just finished our food really quickly and left the money on the table as we couldn't bear to wait ages for our bill. We then headed round to Esquina Paulina for beautiful tapas and wine to round off the evening on a better note!

After that disaster we won't be back next time we're in Nerja which is a pity as the first time was nice, but it's just not worth it if they can't get their act together.

My husband and I went there for a dinner but couldn't eat as there was a regular salsa/bachata dancing party, which was very lucky for us to join! The onwer and all ladies and gentlemen there warmly welcomed an Asian coulple and it was the hottest night that we had in our stay in Spain. Julies was the place that has given us a great joy to experience Afro-cuban music and dance in such an unexpected area. It's regretful that we couldn't try the foods but we are looking forward to visiting again sometime later.

We visited Julies several times during a recent holiday to Nerja. Between us we made our way through pretty much every dish on the menu. Being staunch carvivores we would not normally choose a reataurant geared up for vegetraians but after seeing all the good reviews we were intrigued. It did not disappoint. There was a mix of vegetarian, meat and seafood dishes on the menu and we were amazed by all the wonderful flavours in the vegetarian dishes. If all veggie food was this good I'd happily turn vegetarian!! It is not your typical tapas, a mix of flavours some with a middle eastern/ morrocan vibe. The aubergine and the hummus was oooh soo yummy and my partner raved about the whole chiorizo. We got a free tapas platter with each bottle of wine so we only needed to order a few more tapas dishes between us to enjoy heaps of food making it very good value for money. If you've got amy room left a must try is Julies home made chocolate brownies - divine!! The service was welcoming and friendly with a relaxed vibe. Julie's is only a small place tucked away in the far corner of the square opposite Balcon D'Europa. There is limited seating outside, but we were happy to take an inside table once we discovered the great food.

Something was seriously wrong here last night. People were sitting at tables and no one had food when we arrived. It is a small space so only 4 other parties were seated. A man in the bar was making drinks, and someone else, " Oscar?" was hustling about attempting to seat guests, take orders, and get people off the topic of where their food might be. Whenever the bartender came out to help, Oscar made him go back. Oscar needed some help.

He appeared to be seriously tripping. He couldn't read or write. He asked people to point to items on the one page menu; he couldn't figure out if it was in English or Spanish (we speak both languages and neither helped him). He finally had us write down our order. He had another couple do the same. They had gone through a pitcher of sangria without getting their food as had another foursome. There were no other tables occupied at the time - around 8:45pm.

He kept picking up the bottles with numbers and flags on the tables and calling the numbers out loud. When food finally came out, he had no idea what to do with it. The bartender would come out to help him. At one point a woman came out from the kitchen looking really pissed off. Finally "Oscar" just went off to cut limes, lots and lots of limes, while the bartender attempted to assuage customers. One patron finally went to Oscar behind the bar to pay his bill after asking repeatedly for it. He could not fathom how to give change. He just kept making piles of coins. We finally went up to pay ourselves, and my son who has worked in a restaurant showed Oscar how to figure out what we had and how much it cost, gave him the money, and made our change for him. Dios mio!

We have all lived abroad, and we expect a leisurely dining experience in a tapas restaurant while on holiday. This was actually stressful as customers attempted to laugh it all off as part of the experience, but it became clear that the only person dining or working who was having a good time was Oscar. My apologies to the actual host if it was his night off.

The food was fine.

First thing you need to know is how to find it! We used info we had from previous reviews but still found it difficult to find, hope this helps.

At Plaza Balcon de Europa there is a Cafe called Albi clearly marked with umbrellas with name on. Walk past this on Left Side to far Right end of courtyard. You will pass restaurant El Candil on left and Julie's is BEHIND La Fuente in bottom Right Corner.
It doesn't have a visible sign up as you walk towards it or umbrellas with name on and is smaller than the others but keep going to the far right corner and you will be there.

Oscar (who is Cuban) is the main front of house person. He is always moving about chatting and dancing around to the Cuban Music they play making the atmosphere and dining experience what it should be...fun.
Oscar is always there when you need him but never in the way.

The Food was absolutely Fantastic easily some of the best food we have had. Julie manages to create dishes with so many flavours and definitely not run if the mill tapas. Also whilst noting tapas they are not really small or overly large so take less to begin and add to them, portions we got were larger than we thought we would get!

We are not wine drinkers so cannot comment on them but can say Mojitos were brilliant and Vodka plentiful in measures.

Service was great from Oscar and the waitress who we did not catch her name but she was very welcoming and helpful just as much as Oscar.

Overall the standard of food, drink and dining experience were Fantastic and far too cheap for what they deliver.

A must try restaurant.
