My husband and I booked a week in Nerja following a fraught time selling our house - this holiday was all we thought it would be and more - we have travelled extensively, in fact the hotel was very similar to the hotel we stayed at in Cuba, but for a short break, this was ideal. The beaches and views are fantastic, the restaurants by the beach brilliant, and reasonable. We caught the local buses and got to see a lot of the small mountain villages. We went to the Nerja caves, well worth the visit. The hotel was good and the staff very accommodating. The rep even came from our home town (but we won't hold that against her!) The only down side of our holiday was when we went to Gibraltor for the day - cold, grey, roadworks, and windy - it was like going home for the day! We enjoyed this holiday so much, we are thinking of coming back with our children and their families, this is something we don't usually do, as there is so much to see in the world!

My husband & I stayed at the Hotel Plaza Cavana for one evening during our trip to Spain. For the price, you will get a clean room, encounter nice, English-speaking staff and a hotel that is close to shopping and restaurants. Don't expect frills or modern decor here. Our room was bare bones but clean and comfortable. Some things to note: the hotel states that they have parking but it is not easy to get to and not convenient if you plan on moving your car at all during your stay. We booked through an online travel site that quoted parking for 2 euro a day. The actual price was around 12 EU. We stayed on the third floor and the elevator only goes up to the 2nd floor. No one offered to help us with our luggage and we did not see a bell hop around. So we took the elevator to the 2nd floor and pulled our heavy luggage up a spiral staircase to the third floor. We are in good shape and had a tough time with this. Lastly, the air conditioner in our room was broken. We reported it but no one showed up until we were exiting the room to check out the next day. Since it was a cool evening, we opened the windows. However, this subjected us to all the noise of the hotel's courtyard. This included banging doors, drunken laughter and a giant marital dispute at 3 am. Next time, I will pay a little more and stay somewhere a bit nicer and with more reliable air conditioning. One other thing to note, the best beaches in Nerja are about a 15 minute walk from the hotel. It's downhill the way there but getting back you have a steep hill to climb to get back.

Absolutey terrible, rooms small and very cramped and very poor and old bathroom facilities.
Tried the restaurent on our first night, expensive and tasteless, had better TV dinners
also very dirty linen and cutlery.
Good location but very very substandard, we were not pleased and spent most of our time as far away from the hotel as we could get.

Just returned from our second stay at the Plaza Cavana and have enjoyed this as much as the first time. Our first visit was back in July 2005 and nothing much has changed, the pool area has been spruced up since we last came with wooden decking but everything else was as we remembered.

Last time we came to this hotel we had to cut short our holiday but to cicrumstances at home and although we booked with Thomson they didn't help in the slightest to even get back to the airport never mind get us home, the hotel did all this and this is why we decided to return as all the staff are really helpful, especially Alex on reception. Once again we had travelled with Thomson (although i vowed never again) as they had the cheapest deal to the hotel. At the Doncaster airport the check in desk only opened 2 hours before where the ticket stated 3 hours before so there were people hanging around and forming queues in the wrong place all over and then we weren't even on their systems even though the break was booked 5 months in advance and we had tickets, same coming back but that's a gripe with the tour operator, no reflection on the hotel.

When we checked in the receptionist asked if we had been before to the area, we told her we'd been to the hotel before and next day complimentary cava was in an ice bucket in the room courtesy of the hotel which was a nice touch. There were also nice toiletries every day even if you hadn't completely used the ones from the day before.

Some people have commented on the hotel being noisy and this could be a problem to some, the hotel is on a bustling little street and in the afternoon can be a little noisy if you have the door open to the balcony but the location of the hotel to us made up for this and it was easy to sleep at night. First time we went was July and the roads were closed off so a carnival for the whole of july and August so the only noise was from the people walking in the street. However you can't hear the road noise from the pool, only the church bells and the guy with the little tourist train which stops opposite the hotel.

For children the pool area probably isn't the best, the pool is quite small and not very deep so diving in isn't possible and the getting in the pool is only accessible from two sides. There were only about 15 loungers around the pool so in high season I would imagine you have to be up early with the towels to get one but we had no problems even though we had breakfast first before going to the pool.

Breakfasts can be a little repetitive but i think that is continental breakfasts for you any way, there was a good variety, yoghurts, fruit, cold meats and cheese, cereals and all kinds of breads so there was something for every one. We didn't use the hotel restuarant but the pool bar did good food but this can be a little slow as they only have one grill so you could be waiting a while.

Eating out in Nerja is just heaven, there is something for every one whether you fancy tapa's to fish and chips. You must try Retondo which is a fabulous tapa bar, Antonio De Meson which doesn't scrimp on those piddly little shrimps in the prawn cocktail and if you do fancy fish and chips there's always The Codfather which is just opposite the Rui Monica.

Would i go back?, definitely, this is such a lovely calm atmosphere to the place, no blazing disco's or McDonalds and it would have to be The Plaza Cavan every time.

This is our ninth visit to the Plaza Cavanna and we were again reminded why we come back year after year. The welcome from Paco, Hose and the rest of the family makes you feel you have not come to a hotel but a home from home.

Our room on the second floor was spacious and comfortable. We had a lovely time and are sure we will be back.
