“A nice location by the sea”
Reviewed 6 June 2012

We visited the hotel to attend a friend’s wedding. The hotel is situated right by the beach and the pool area is separated from it by a nice lawn area. The beach itself isn’t the nicest, as is common to the area the ‘sand’ is more like grey grit with bands of pebbles but the sea is very clean. There are two (unheated) outdoor pools and one in the health spa. The pool area is nice and is serviced by a pool bar.
The restaurant is a buffet style. Breakfast was a selection of hot and cold food and for lunch and dinner there was a nice selection of healthier food such as salad, meat and fish as well as the not so healthy options like pasta and pizza all of which was nice. We were on the all-inclusive tariff which worked out as great value, the only shame was that you couldn't get anything to eat outside of meal times other than some poor sandwiches from the pool bar.
The rooms have kitchenettes and although not what I would call luxurious for a 4 star are nice, spotlessly clean and had a big flat screen TV. The bathroom was modern and had a good shower the beds were comfortable. Just beware of the rooms around the bar, having said that it closes at midnight so if it is a bit noisy it doesn't go on al night!
Apparently it is a SAGA listed hotel and there were a significant number of older people but there was a mix of ages, some families with kids but no teens/twentysomethings.
The wedding was great and the ceremony was set up by the beach which was a lovely location. The staff in general were efficient, friendly and polite (with just the odd exception!).
All in all we had a very nice stay!

Room Tip: Try and avoid the rooms above and next to the bar

my girlfirend and i stayed here for four days last week and absolutely loved it! we are an early thirties couple who do quite a bit of traveling and we have never had the intrest in staying in a "resorty" type of place on any of our travels. but finding a cool, quiet, pretty beach on this coast of spain was tough. and we went back and forth alot. after finding nerja, we then went back and forth about hotels. we were skeptical about the resort thing and the low price, but ended up chosing Hotel Marinas de Nerja and extreamly glad we did! it was kind of a quarky place and it was halarious that it was definately geared towards people in their golden years and we were the only couple our age with out children. we just shrugged it off and made the best of it and loved it! i would greatly incourage upgrading to the all-inclusive package wich we took advantage of for breakfast and lunch and probably drank our total cost for the entire stay in just cocktails alone! we would normally walk ( twenty to thirty miniute walk) or drive to town in the evenings for drinks and dinner and to hang out in the town wich is a really cool little town. we would then get up early and eat breakfast and mosey out to the amasing grassy beach area and lounge for a few good hours. then explore the area or nap! such a relaxing part of our trip! the rooms are spacious and clean and the two twin beds that made our "king" bed were actually comfortable!
i would say Hotel Marinas de Nerja has the young family and the retired clientel figured out, so this review goes out to those young couples that can find humor in anything, and have a nice quiet, relaxing vacation in mind. go to the caves and go feed and adopt (25 Euros) an animal at the donkey reserve right up the road from the hotel and take advantage of all the all-inclusive beers and cocktails your little heart desires!

Room Tip: ac is only availible certin times a year

The hotels just a little outside Nerja, you can walk along the beach to get into the centre of Nerja taking around 15 minutes. The beach is shale and pebble not sand, but lovely all the same.
It's a pleasant hotel, lovely pool, nice sunbathing area on grass between the pool and beach, the rooms are spacious, we just had a studio which was big enough with a kitchen and lovely balcony overlooking the pool and sea. Our room was next to the lobby on the ground floor this meant I could pick up wifi reception for free (free wifi in reception area), 127 was the room number if interested.
There is also a fantastic restaurant in the village where the hotel is, on the main road turn left and it's in the right up some steps.

Negatives: Breakfast is awful, plenty of choice but lacking any flavour, tasting a bit stale and dull, we only went B&B thank god, if the breakfast was anything to go by the rest must have been a waste of money.

Bathroom is a wet room so gets soaked and very slippy when you've used the shower.

It's really geared towards senior travellers, it's great if your on a SAGA holiday or in your senior years and looking for entertainment in the bar aimed at pensioners, but also very good for young families (kids clubs etc )

Top tips: avoid the all inclusive/ HB/ FB and walk to nerja for your meals
Don't waste money on expensive excursion to Alhambra, book a hire car and go yourself, it's less than 40 miles away and costs around 15 euro to get in, if you know when your likely to go book your tickets online first as the Nasri Palace section books full 3 months in advance!!

Lovely hotel - right on the beach with Nerja a lovely beachside walk on a hard easy walking track with many small bars and resuraunts en route. Extremely clean rooms - great to have seperate living/sleeping areas - clean linen and towels - all toiletries renewed daily. Bus stop outside the hotel if you wish to venture further afield. Very good food at all meals and all inclusive very satisfactory. In all would return and reccomend without hesitaion. One more thing - do join in the entertainment provided by the hotel - great fun.

Just returned from a weeks stay at this hotel. Have been before and so knew what to expect. The cleanliness of the hotel was very good and towels were changed daily. Staff had a good knowledge of English and we attempted our little spanish.

All staff were very friendly and helpful. My 8 year old daughter left her bag with a little money in reception, we called the hotel who had found it and kept it for her until we returned. (Money still there). pool area was clean (pool freezing in April). The grass area was nice to sunbathe on as i do not like sand and the beach was good for my daughter and very safe. The walk in to Nerja will take aprox 20-30 mins but a car jouney will take 5 mins. All food was well cooked and varied, with plenty of fish and meat. Evening entertainment was probably not up to the standard of some hotels we have been to but still enjoyable (even the one man band that played the saxophone out of tune!!)

This hotel would suit older coupes and families alike (Many SAGA users there). It's a peaceful hotel with a nice atmosphere. if your looking for a hotel thats offering round the clock entertainment on a plate, this one's not for you.

One slight word of caution, although the hotel does feel very safe, the Kids Club allow children to wander off without asking them where they are going, however they have a disclaimer which does say that ultimately they are not responsible for the children.

We would go again.

Room Tip: Try to ask for a pool view room if possible.

Just returned from a good stay at the Marinas De Nerja Beach Hotel. Lots of sunshine but very windy (Apparently this is usual for April ) Very good hotel, clean, good service & friendly staff.Good location on the beach a pleasant 25min walk along the beach to the resort centre or 5min bus ride, Bus stop outside hotel.Weekends were rather busy with Spanish families taking a break. The entertainment was extremely good - Flamenco dancers, singers, magicians etc.The food was very good & plentiful. The chefs always obliging & extremely busy cooking in front of the guests. Unfortunately I found it rather disconcerting to see them picking up raw fish & raw meat to cook ,then handling cooked joints without changing or washing their gloves! We came home having had a good holiday with no " tummy bug " but others may not be so fortunate . Frigiliana village & Nerja caves well worth a visit , only 1euro each way by bus.

Room Tip: over look pool & sea

WE were very happy with our stay at this hotel despite the strong wind in March. A real mixture of guests from Saga, families and young Spanish. Food was very good buffet style with lots of choice at every meal although we preferred lunch as it catered more to a Spanish Clientele. Lots of fish and alaways pasta and interesting rice and veg dishes. House wine was cheap at 5Euro.
Rooms had a small kitchen which gave more space and the balaconey was large as well.
Was not as noisy as some contributors have indicated.
Entertainment was not our thing but easy walk into Nerja. We love walking and the saga lady gave us a book of walks from the hotel and around the area which were excellent (can be bought at the English Bookshop in Nerja as well).
Downside was nioisy restaurant at times as it is buffet food.

Room Tip: We chose the top floor so were not disturbed by people walking above us!
