“Great value, great location, lovely staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 May 2014 via mobile

The Puerta del Mar is a little gem. On a quiet side street a minutes walk from the Balcon. The room was very clean and comfortable. There was an excellent breakfast included. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
The rooftop garden and pool are a real bonus. And it was very good value. I will go back there again

We stayed here for two nights and were very impressed with this hotel located right in the heart of Nerja, a stone's throw from one of the many beaches. It is clean, comfortable (air conditioning worked perfectly), great value for money, delicious breakfast, reliable WiFi, and it is quiet because it is not too big. There is a pool on the roof with sunbeds overlooking the quaint church right beside the Balcony of Europe. The staff were very friendly, helpful and courteous. The only fault we experienced was a non-functioning hairdryer in the bathroom. Other than that it was a problem-free hotel.

Just returned from a seven night stay, and I have to say the hotel is just ok (not some super clean paradise that other reviews seem to suggest). Yes it's clean, breakfast is sufficient, rooms are small but adequate, the balcony or ledge is tiny and the rooftop terrace with swimming pool is great. If I ever return to Nerja I would probably stay around the Playa Burriana area as the beach is excellent and the restaurants lining the seafront are great. Nerja itself becomes a little grating after a few days.
Our room 208 did suffer with a smell of drains towards the end of the week (I noticed another reviewer stating the same thing) so please avoid as they clearly haven't fixed the problem.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the lift as it can be quite noisy at night especially with returning late n...

We booked this hotel after seeing that it was the number one ranked hotel in Nerja on Tripadvisor & it definitely lived up to it's reputation.
As previous reviews have stated, it was unbelievably clean, very well located (close to the Balcone de Europe) & the service was great. Reception even lent us a cork screw so that we could open a bottle of wine that was't bought in the hotel!
The breakfast, which was included in the very reasonable price was great & you could help yourself to as much as you liked.
We also had a great view over looking the square, with mountains as a backdrop.
The roof terrace was lovely, very peaceful & a bit of a sun trap, with a nice little pool.
Everything about this little hotel is great & we cannot recommend it highly enough. We will definitely stay there again.

I have just returned from a 5 day stay over Easter and cannot fault this hotel. Never stayed anywhere as clean, the smell of the cleanliness hits you when you walk in. Don't know what cleaning products they use but it smells really fresh everywhere. Everywhere is light and airy. Never stayed in a small traditional hotel before so was a bit apprehensive before we arrived but the photos do not do it justice. Our room was on a side street so there was no view but it was a lovely room and the shower was amazing. I may ask for a corner room if we went again either 110-112 or 210 to 212 as some of these have 2 windows and overlook a big square and the mountains but to be fair I wouldn't be bothered which room I had really if they had limited availability .Breakfast is continental with lovely fresh bread ,croissants, cake ,fruit, yoghurts ,ham ,cheese pates and spreads. A toaster is provided so you can make hot toasted sandwiches if you fancy something hot. The coffee machine produces the best coffee I have ever tasted and this is from someone who sells coffee and coffee machines for a living!!The roof terrace is an absolute gem, even though the bustle of the square is below you it is really peaceful and quiet and you are in your own little world up there with lovely little areas with sunbeds and tables and chairs, you can have your own little private area. The position of the hotel is perfect you walk out of the door and you have the Balcone de Europe, beaches, main square and an abundance of restuarants and cafes a few metres away. Our favourite was El Candil just round the corner in a little square off the square. The atmosphere was lovely and the food was amazing. The best steak we have ever had and the staff were lovely, very relaxed atmosphere. In the other direction there is a little reataurant/takeaway that cooks chickens and ribs on a spit think its called something like Zazza for 7 euros you can have amazing chicken or ribs and chips.really nice .There is a café near the Mar Bella bar called Cabana that does amazing hot chocolate its like melted chocolate in a glass!! We visited Mar Bella bar one evening and booked a table overlooking the bay which was lovely but the service was appalling, everyone was joking about it, the waiters didn't seem to know what was happening, it wasn't busy but they weren't organised at all. The food was mediocre. Theres much better places to eat.
The weather wasn't brilliant over Easter we had 3 red hot days but 2 days of rain unfortunately so we were a bit limited as to what to do but we still enjoyed our stay and will definitely go back. One thing I must point out is if you do not want to be disturbed in the middle of the night do not go over Easter as the village has parades with drums and trumpets at 1am and it goes on for a couple of hours and as the church is next door your right next to it but we actually got use to it in the end.Transfers to Nerja can be expensive, we went with ResortHoppa and paid around £83 return which was a good price and cannot fault their service. I t was a small minibus, we were the first to be dropped off on arrival and on the way back there was only us on the bus so it was like a private transfer. They emailed the hotel a couple of days before our departure with all the transfer instructions which was much better than having to phone up ourselves like you usually have to. The only problem is that Nerja is mainly pedestrianized and the hotel is up a small back street so you are dropped off at the end of a road and told it is "just up there" and it took us about 30 minutes of walking through the streets with all our luggage and asking people who don't speak very good English. You just need to head for the church and the street for the hotel is at the side The hotel does transfers so you may not have the same problem if you arrange it with them but it is more expensive..We had late flights so when we checked out Javier let us put our luggage in the basement and use the hotel for the rest of the day. They even showed us to a shower suite under the hotel and provided us with towels and shower gel to get ready for our flight home all free of charge.Cannot fault them, wouldn't stay anywhere else in Nerja. We would have liked to have returned for the next Bank Holiday, Javier was very helpful about rooms available and said we could email him direct so he knew who we were but unfortunately we couldn't get flights that were suitable but we will definitely go back next year and are recommending this hotel to all our friends.

Room Tip: Corner rooms 110-112 or 210 to 212 have mountain/square views and some have double aspect.
