“Poop powered trip”
Reviewed 19 April 2014

The driver was were friendly and explained the working principle, which was once common but now unique in Europe. Like all funicular railways, the two cars are connected by a cable, and weight of the descending car pulls the ascending car up the hill. To make sure that the upper car always weighs more than the lower one, each car has a tank that connects to the city sewer. They fill the car when it is at the top station and empty it at the bottom. The systems uses zero energy, but does give the lower terminal a certain "fragrance".

“Whiffy but wonderful”
Reviewed 7 January 2014

This sewage-powered train, a 19th century engineering wonder, provides a novel, scenic and direct route between the downtown and lower town of Fribourg.

“Back into the past”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

An amazing unique funicular made of wood offering a little trip from the crowded downtown to the quiet old city. The view is absolutely wonderful on the Lorette cliffs surrounding Sarine river. Wonderful experience appreciated equally by the adults and by the kids. Definitely something that tourists visiting Fribourg shouldn't miss.

“Funiculars rock!”
Reviewed 2 September 2013

For the price of a bus ticket, you can ride up and down on an old-fashioned funicular and save yourself a very steep walk.

“Old-style tram feeling”
Reviewed 1 September 2013

Only 5 minutes of travel, but a feeling of having time-travelled back to the 1920's.
Shortest possible distance form the middle of the "new"-city down to the old-town.
