Have eaten here a couple of times now and as before, happily made a small detour for a Sunday roast. It didn't disappoint, honest pub food and well kept beers all at a reasonable price served by welcoming and friendly hosts. A beamed low-ceiling and cozy place, beautifully adorned in colourful hanging flower baskets, situated on the edge of the common; a proper pub. Worth a visit.

Lovely traditional pub sat on the edge of the common in Hungerford. Sunday roast looked great value for money at £6.95. Good fish and chips and homemade puddings. Staff were friendly. Seemed a mixture of locals, walkers and tourists. Dog and children friendly too.

We dropped in for a quick pint and ended up there for the evening lol. The Landlord and Staff were very friendly and so too were the regulars which is not often the case we would have dined but we already had a meal earlier, The food that we saw served looked delicious and smelt good too, the menu is varied with all the English greats on there, we are going back again this time to dine.

My son has recently moved to the Hungerford area and when we were walking our dogs on the lovely Hungerford common we came across this lovely country pub (The Downgate) right on the common and as it is dog friendly we went in to have a drink, inside it is full of old banknotes, coins and a very good collection of model aircraft hanging from the ceiling, as it was lunchtime we decided to have something to eat and as it is mostly homemade food it is very difficult to choose from the menu as it looked so good what the other people were eating but I went for the homemade Faggots my wife hade the homemade Bacon & sage & onion Rolly polly and we were not disappointed.
We have been back since with all my family for Sunday roast which again is cooked on the premises fresh veg (which you do not find in most places) and it is very good and at £6.95 money well spent, and a great thank you to David and Janet and staff for making us most welcome.
P.S in reference to a earlier review about the locals not eating there because every time we call in the locals do eat there but some of them are locals and only live next door or down the street, but plenty of them get in there at weekends.
