Description: Hungerfords Cygnet restaurant has grasped on to the idea of the organic movement with both hands and made a real success of combining sophisticated dining with eco-friendly ideals. For that real get-away-from-it-all experience Cygnet couldnt be better, offering a countryside idyll in the shape of a gorgeously executed barn conversion. Bare wood beams cut in to white washed walls while rustic accessories really add to that bucolic charm. The menu meanwhile is created seasonally using fine organic ingredients, many supplied by the restaurants own farm in Inkpen. Alongside traditional English dishes youll find more imaginative twists plucked from across the globe to be enjoyed with a bottle from the exclusively organic wine list.

We were looking for British pub with rooms and good food, near Hungerford, as an overnight stop on the Bristol to London bike route.Imagined a country pub, good beers, great atmosphere, cracking food. Positives were staff extremely helpful, draught beers good, pleasant location. Downside is they need a chef, not a middle of the road cook.
£7.99 for the Scallop starter is pricey, but to receive only 3 overcooked scallops in a forgettable sauce was over the top.
The choice of organic steaks sounded wonderful, rump, ribeye, fillet and sirloin, had us guessing which to go for. All four of made our choices, only to be told that there were only two steaks left, and they were sirloin. They must be joking! 8pm on a Sat night, with only 2 other tables occupied!
Breakfast--no fruit, cooked breakfast only could be described as OK!
This place is struggling big style, which is a shame when the staff are trying so hard to please, but without a proper chef it will bite the dust---no more than 6 people at the bar all night; that being a Sat night!
The bill was a non itemised till roll, had two items of £12.95 that could not be reconciled, so were removed!

Took the family in for a Sunday lunch, and was impressed by such an extensive menu.

Had planned and expected a Sunday roast, yes it was there and so were so many other choices. I therefore changed my mind and enjoyed a really nice lasagna.

The food was fresh and good in this wonderful village pub

We stopped in to the pub on a Saturday for a light lunch and pints during a country walk. It was a nice day so we were able to take advantage of the outdoor seating. We had soup and the organic beef burger; both were of high quality and tasty. The local cask ales, Butts Traditional and Butts Jester (lighter ABV) were both good - next time we'd both opt for the Jester as it held its own in terms of taste. Service was great, but it was early in the day with few patrons at the time and so cannot comment on how things might go at busier times. Definitely goes on our list for a stop if we are in the area again.

Beautiful riverside location and well renovated. Good value food in a cosy atmosphere which can only improve as the staff find their feet.
Worth another trip.

Picked this pub for a Sunday lunch today. Phoned ahead and pre-booked two roast dinners. The pub itself was clean and tidy. The welcome acceptable, unfortunately the food was terrible. The roast beef (Promoted heavily) was thin, tough and chewy. The vegtable selection was also vey poor. After complaining the manager offered more of the same overcooked meat, Not good. Insult was added to an already fatal injury when the bill arrived. Do yourself a favour and go to the White Hart @ Hampstead Marshall. An all-round much better choice.

This review is in complete contrast to the experience of over 40 guests at lunch and one suspects a hidden agenda here particular as a competitor is recommended.
20 roast beef lunches were served and resulted in many compliments.
This customer complained on the day that the meat was thin and tough and chewy (It was not).
All joints vary in finish, the centre cuts are medium rare and the end cuts are medium well done. The customer asked for addition beef and had both types of cuts enjoyed by all other customers. The Roast was served with roasted potatoes, Yorkshire pud and four vegetables again enjoyed by other customers. The vegetables offered were cabbage, beans, courgette and roast beetroot. By no stretch of the imagination could the vegetable selection be described as "very poor"!! The reviewer did not mention their satisfaction with poached salmon dish which they acknowledge at the time as being very good. This type of completely unreasonable review weakens the credibility of review sites.
