Unlike others posting here, we thoroughly enjoyed our 'special occasion' high tea here.

OK, it certainly is expensive, although in our opinion it compared very favourably against Cliveden (in the same price league, but over-subscribed and living on its history).

At Danesfield we were well looked after. Nice food selection, well presented. A sunny day, and we were able to sit on the terrace, but I don't think that influenced us unduly.

Will look for an excuse to visit again.

Myself and my wife stayed for two nights at the beginning of August as we were visiting the area and dining with friends in Marlow. The hotel building does have some interesting history and parts do date back some way. This means it does lack the touches of a modern hotel but the building and extensive grounds do make up, I feel, for this. We would have liked to use the spa, although we could just not find the time, but a brief look through the door made me wish we could have had a little swim ! My one criticism is the cost of £6.15 for a small bottle of Peroni beer and no draught beer. The cost of the same bottle in the mini bar in the room was £5.50. The Terrace overlooking the gardens was the perfect place to have a few drinks but the price of the beer did, I am afraid tarnish the view.

I recently went to Danesfield House for high tea and it was very disappointing. There are three choices, standard scones and a choice of teas for £15.00 each, then sandwiches, scones and cakes at £25.00 each or the option to have a glass of champagne with your tea, which incurs a further charge. There are five finger sandwiches which were completely uninspired, egg mayonnaise, salmon and cucumber, cream cheese, ham and beef. The beef sandwich which I had did not contain lean meat and was an unpleasant mouthful, which I would have gladly spat out, but seemed inappropriate for the surroundings. The cakes were not particularly inspired either battenberg, a raspberry and chocolate macaroon or mint and chocolate macaroon, a chocolate square, which was sticky and unpleasant due to the heat, a lemon tart which was overpowered with lemon and made your tongue stick to the roof of your mouth. However, the sweet pastry fruit filled tart was a delight. The young girls serving were very pleasant and topped the water up regularly, so your tea was plentiful.
Another table asked what the vegetarian options were and the waiter did not know. He said the sandwiches were prepared, so it ended up with the party passing their egg and cheese sandwiches over to the vegetarian.
Perhaps a vegetarian option should be considered
Prior to having tea, we went for a walk around the grounds which are in need of attention in lots of places (lots of weeds that have been there a long time because of size) crazy paving which is not secure, the garden beyond the spa has no water in the water feature, a seat which was under a canopy was very tatty and in need of a sand down and varnish. There are fences which are broken and a steep drop below. The grounds look very unkempt. There was only one place that we found pleasant to sit and it was by the coy carp pond.
Overall and underwhelming experience, very expensive for what you got and I would not recommend
Also you have to book for afternoon tea

No booking on arrival
Stuck in the Oak room like they don't want us
Crap service
They don't care as the wedding is now in full swing
Half the lunches arrive the others turn up but are cold
Call manager
He repays us by giving us champagne
Our meals are returned
Kids hVe now eaten
My mothers meal has returned hot
We are still waiting for ours
Food good when finely arrives, come here if you all want to eat at different times
Desserts ordered - all good
Requested coffees on patio - forget this as no coffees arrived after 20 minutes as the wedding was and is far more important - would we go back no way crap service and they don't give a fig so avoid go Guidos or the Bull at Bisham they care and give first class service to all and not just a wedding........

Together with other members of our family we met here to celebrate a special occassion on Sunday 22nd June; the weather was lovely, the surroundings pleasant, our Sunday Lunch menu in the Orangery was OK and the food was OK, but there really was no wow factor at all, which bearing in mind the cost was a great shame.

The service was slightly comical at times; almost trying too hard and not really succeeding; at one point when the celebration cake was served; half the plates were put out in front of us and then a head waiter intervened and these were then taken away again and a few minutes later we were all served, it felt a bit like training was being undertaken on the job, not really what we expected on a special day out.
