The location is stunning and historic, we were greeted by friendly staff and our room was really nice.

The room was a basic twin but more like a deluxe room, with all the usual facilities. The bathroom was huge with two wash basins, walk in shower and a separate bath.

As well as kettle and instant coffee there was a nespresso machine with cups it was very nice. As was the unexpected complimentary bottle of sparkling wine.

The bar was nice with lots of really nice panelling. The service was slow but the staff were really pleasant and the hotel bars were very busy.

We ate in the restaurant and breakfast was nice, as with all McDonald hotels continental is buffet with cooked to order English.

Well worth a visit as it is a really well run hotel in a great location with an excellent restaurant.

Thank you for your glowing review following your recent stay with us. It is good to hear that you found all the team friendly and pleasant. This is most important to me as it is what makes the biggest difference to a stay. The added extra of the Nespresso machine is a recent addition and has been warmly received. It appears that you stayed in a Feature Twin room with a private balcony overlooking the weir. I am pleased that you also took the opportunity to dine for both breakfast and dinner and enjoyed both. I therefore hope that we can welcome you back again soon.

Kind regards

We decided to stop by for an early evening drink on the terrace overlooking the river. There seemed to be plenty of staff milling around the bar and restaurant area ....but not on the terrace. We waited a long time for our order to be taken and delivered. Our waitress was pleasant - but no apology offered.
Whilst waiting we noticed old cigarette butts, used tissues and napkins and sweet papers littered about the floor - it really needed a good clean and sprucing up.
Really disappointed - so will not be returning.

I am disappointed to read your review following your recent visit. Although I cannot tell 100% from your review, I am guessing that you came on a Sunday evening after a busy day of operation. This should not have affected your visit, however, it clearly has done on this occasion. Although of little consolation to you, the terrace was given a thorough clean on the Monday morning. I am certainly paying more attention to this area now so I do hope that at some point you will consider returning.

Arriving at this hotel you can't fail to be impressed with this perfect British hotel by the Thames location.
Room - good inc using quality brands like Molton Brown.
Food - lots of effort into the dinner menu. Portions very small (still hungry after 3 courses) & goats cheese ice cream?! This wasn't good.
Breakfast. I arrived at 0715 & service was slow. Colleagues who arrived after 0800 went without.
Lunch - I had let the organisers know I was gluten free but at lunch the staff said only the salad was suitable - thanks. A vegetarian colleague was given a ham omelette.
Lovely hotel. Could do better.

Thank you for your comments and balanced review. It is a lovely hotel and we aim to offer quality food and service. Clearly, there was some delay at breakfast, especially for a conference guest that is looking for a speedy service. We deal with special dietary requests all the time so it is very disappointing to hear that we failed to accommodate this fully. I am glad that the room was good and you appreciated the quality touches of the Molton Brown. As you have said, we could have done better on this occasion.

We had our team building event at the Macdonald Compleat Angler in Marlow early June 2014 and we were not disappointed. We were lucky that it was a beautiful day with lots of sunshine.

The location by the river is amazing and the meeting room we had for the day (the Balmoral) had all the modern technology needed plus a private terrace with views over the river.

The food for our lunch was good - but there could perhaps have been a little bit more of it.

The rooms we all stayed in were old English style but very nice, clean and with everything you needed.

We had boat trip with the Sovereign Waters which was nice on a summer day. Despite the fact that the boat wouldn't start for about half an hour - but that didn't ruin our good experience.

The dinner in the restaurant was in a gorgeous area with views over the river - we loved that. The food was ... good / great - there were some mixed feedback. The waiter was perhaps not the most attentive and seemed a bit too posh for what we liked.

The breakfast was great and full of choice.

I'd definitely recommend this place to anybody looking for a location for a business team building event or just for a nice stay in beautiful Marlow.

Room Tip: Some rooms have river views and four-poster beds so ask for one of those!

Thank you for your review following your business meeting at the hotel. I am very pleased to hear how much you enjoyed your experience and I hope that we can welcome you back again soon. Taking a boat trip is a ‘must do’ and Sovereign Waters suitable for up to 12 people is well worth the price of £160+VAT for the hour. Clearly, you also enjoyed the restaurant next to the river and the private terrace to the Balmoral, where you can enjoy a private lunch with a river view. See you again soon,

Breakfasting and dining in the balmy sunshine of June on the picturesque terrace of this lovely hotel was the bonus of our 3 day break. Catering and service were flawless, and for those wanting an airy bedroom, try 95, no aircon needed there. Oh, and best towels ever here!

Location isn't everything and the Angler is another reminder of that! I had a two day management meeting in one of their conference rooms with the usual breakfast and lunch service requested. Breakfast comprised of a few pastries that weren't particularly fresh, and coffee from, fortunately, a Nespresso machine did not come with basic things such as milk and sugar which needed to be asked for. The air conditioning only blew in one direction and one speed, no working temperature control. The room was noisy with sounds from other meeting rooms carrying through the thin walls. Lunch on day one wasn't enough for the group our size and the drinks ordered at the bar were the wrong ones. To top it all off, luggage from one colleague disappeared from the hotel only to be found with another guest miles away! The General Manager had the audacity to ridicule the situation indicating something like that "would never happen." I don't think we will be bringing our business back unless management receives a long overdue education in customer service and trains it's staff adequately.

Although you are very entitled to your opinion, it is difficult to thank you for your review with the comments made, some of which are factually incorrect. The breakfast pastries provided with your coffee break is standard. Those delegates that stayed overnight enjoyed a full English and continental breakfast in the restaurant. You would have been welcome to do the same or we could have arranged some bacon sandwiches or other breakfast items for your meeting on request. The quantity of food was made known to us at the end of the first day and we rectified this for the second day of the meeting. As requested, we provided a full coffee station in the meeting room with mil and sugar. The Nespresso machine is located outside on the terrace. I am sorry to hear that the correct temperature in your meeting room was not achieved. In order to achieve a constant temperature, it is important that the doors to the room are closed at all times. I am also sorry to hear that you were disturbed from noise in the adjacent room and equally that the drinks delivered were in correct. The very unfortunate situation with an item of luggage was handled most professionally on my part and my exact comment was that it has ‘never happened before’. Fortunately, the luggage was recovered. I could go into much more detail on this, however, this would not be appropriate for this site and I hope other readers can read between the lines.

One night stay here, huge room but on a very warm day the air con did not work! However, there was a small desk fan so that helped a bit.
Bar service very slow, but the cocktails were good.
Ate in the restaurant, excellent food but for me spoilt by an old waiter who was overly intrusive, and annoying.
The location of the hotel is excellent and the town is a short walk over the bridge.

Thank you for your review following your stay. I am glad that you enjoyed the location, the cocktails and excellent food, however, sorry to hear that the bar service was slow and one waiter spoiled the experience. I have, of course, discussed your comments with the team and whilst recruiting a Bar Manager, we continue to stay close to the bar service in order that the guest experience is not affected.
