From the moment we drove into the idyllic setting, where the boat the Sancerre is moored were overcome by a feeling of peace. The tranquil gardens through which we walked to the waters edge filled us with a sense of doing "the right Thing"
We had been plagued by rain since our arrival in the UK, but for reasons only known by our maker, the rain ceased, the sun shone and we knew our trip up the Thames was about to be blessed.
Our initial introduction and induction on the boat was thorough and completed by one of the boats owners and indeed its builder David. He threw his bike over the pointy end, showed us how the motor started, where everything was and off we went. we learned how the sixty foot "barge" manoeuvred the waterways, how she turned in her own length, how to operate the locks and finally how to moor up and then we were on our own.
It really isn't necessary to talk about the fixtures and fittings because the picture are a tyre indication of what you will find, She is absolutely beautiful and being well season yaughties we bathed in the luxury of this craft.
Our trip up river was delightful. we basked in the magnificent scenery, wildlife ( what a camera shot to share with our friends and family, the mother swan carry her signets on her back, nestled in her feathers with father swan protectively looking on and swimming behind), and pub stops. We ate and drank in some of the wondrous hostelries that border the river and we took heaps and heaps of pictures.
Now it is not that we hadn't seen the countryside before, no, we are originally from the fair isles of Britain, but seeing it from this angle gives one a totally different and amazing perspective. from breakfast out on the back deck, lunch at whatever pub we fancied on route, sundowners and dinner, we were in heaven.
The Sancerre is easy to handle, in spite of her size she moves well, and especially so, with the tide. it is a relatively straight forward task to moor up for those special stops and for the night. The people we met enrolee, including the incredibly jovial and helpful lock keepers, are all friendly and ready to assist when necessary.
There really is little more to say other than would we do it again? A most emphatic, that we would indeed we would and will!!
