“Great stay”
Reviewed 6 May 2014

Stayed with a Dealmonster voucher just after Easter.
We had a wonderful time ... the room was very comfortable and the food was excellent.

Certainly recommend to others and will be tempted to stay again!

What a beautiful little find! The Pheasant is a gorgeous little gem of a place with an amazing menu and lovely friendly staff. I went with my husband, 3 children and my parents and we all had one of the best meals yet. The roast lamb was beautifully cooked with a great selection of veg with a twist - sweet potato, oven roasted carrots, dauphinoise....my husband had sea bream with a salad which was gorgeous as was his belly pork to start. The desserts were divine - perfect chocolate melt in the middle fondant puddings, the crumble was possibly the best any of us had ever tasted and as for the treacle tart ! Wow! The staff were incredibly friendly and couldn't do enough for us all - big thank you to Paul and all the team we had a brilliant lunch.

Having been told time and time again to visit the Pheasant by my parents myself, my partner and our Springer Spaniel Mavis headed there for our anniversary weekend.

The Inn is in a lovely location amid stunning countryside and just a 20 minute drive from Windermere in the Lake District. On our arrival we were welcomed warmly by the girl on reception who gave us a little tour before showing is to the dog friendly room we had booked. The room was bright and the bathroom was really modern but more importantly it opened on to the road so easy to take Mavis outside.

We reserved a table in the bar for dinner as it is dog friendly so Mavis could join our anniversary celebrations! The staff had reserved a lovely little table for us with plenty of space for Mavis to stretch out. I had expected to order at the bar as we weren't in the restaurant but the staff came to us for orders and to bring drinks. The food is really stunning and I was spoilt for choice! The crab spring rolls were great as was the Monkfish. I finished off with the treacle tart which was delicious. The service was also really excellent with nothing being too much trouble. Dog biscuits were provided for Mavis and a search was made for the Port my partner had ordered with his cheese.

The breakfast the next morning was served in the restaurant and the choice was excellent. There was a table of juices, cereals, yoghurt and fruit plus pretty much anything you could wish for from the kitchen. We both had a full English Breakfast which was really tasty and set us up for a days walking.

All in all a really excellent place to stay and to eat helped by really great customer service from Carol and her team. Thank you for a lovely anniversary stay from us and Mavis!

Room Tip: If you have a dog book into room 10 as this is dog friendly

This country inn is located in the village of Casterton just a short distance from the attractive small town of Kirkby Lonsdale. We enjoyed our short stay here, our room was comfortable and clean with a decent-sized bathroom. The food served in the restaurant or bar was very good quality and we also enjoyed excellent breakfasts. There is a comfortable lounge adjacent to the bar to relax in during the evening, which was good for accessing free wi-fi should you need it. This inn is ideally situated for exploring both the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District.

The hotel is nicely located, overlooking some impressive countryside. We found the hotel to be spotlessly clean everywhere. Our room was small and basic. The shower didn't have a great deal of water pressure, and the TV was the size of my iPad. (We didn't intend to spend our stay watching TV in our room, but if they are going to put a TV in there, it should at least be watchable...)

The food was amazing... We can recommend totally. Also, the bar and restaurant areas are beautiful, with low ceilings, exposed beams and subtle lighting.

We found the staff to be polite, helpful and friendly, although it was the younger members of staff who had more natural warmth... Some of the older ones seemed to be a bit forced.

All in all, though, this is a recommended venue for short stays if you want to spend your days exploring the Lake District, and then coming back to excellent food.
