We booked for 2 nighs however our son took ill so we had to leave early after 1 night.
The lady owner took offence, she did not believe us and all she did was grunt and moan about being left with an empty room.
She made us feel awfull, She was very rude, abrupt and sulky. We got the feeling people usually leave after 1 night as the place was a dump but we did not mind this, we just wanted a cheep place to sleep.

Came up to Kirkby Lonsdale to do some diving at Capernwray dive site. so I wanted a good cheap room as I would be out all day and couldn't see the point in paying for somthing I wouldn't use and that was what I got. The room I got was first floor at the front of the building. It was clean and well maintained, on-suit and comfortable if a little cold as the only source of heat I could see was a small heater near the bed. The welcome I got was excellent, the landlady even moved there car and stood in the parking space to make sure I had somewere to park. The decor was a bit strange but interesting to look at while I had breakfast-they even offer you a choice of meal times for breakfast, most places will not do that. The only thing I didn't like about the room was that being at the front of the building you can hear people talking very clearly out in the street at night as they go home.

It was very scary. I felt like i was in an episode of the league of gentlemen. Strange abrupt folk - 'youre not from the village - are you? The carpets , furniture and smell of chip fat was yuk! Of course it cost buttons to stay here - but the level of cleansliness was shocking

If you are looking for city chic, modern decor and gourmet breakfast then the Copper Kettle isn't for you. If you are after great value and a comfy clean bed for the night with warm Lakeland hospitality then this place comes top of the pile.
We were joining family and friends for a birthday dinner at the Royal Hotel, - the expensive place down the road - and as we would be spending most of our time there, we were looking for value accommodation within walking distance that allowed somewhere for us to shower and change and to come back to for a few hours sleep in the small hours. Why pay more?
Ideally located right in the middle of the main street in KL, the hotel is very dated, and reminded us of what rural B&Bs used to be like before the advent of designer breakfasts, white crockery and £200/roll wallpaper handprinted by Cumbrian peasants... the Copper Kettle (as its name suggests) is run on an old concept that a bed and breakfast hotel is about a bed and, umm, a breakfast.
The welcome comes included. we got the feeling the landlady was happy just to see some guests as I have no doubt that business hasn't been too brisk after the silly comments made by some people on Trip Advisor. We were treated to a golden hello, and tour of the rooms, the nicely made up camp beds that had been squeezed into our room for the two kids so we could save money by all sharing... and our host even did our ironing for us while we popped out for a stroll and a pint in the local.
OK, the breakfast was more 'Nice price' than Heston Blumenthall, but who cares, it was tasty and plentiful and served with personal consideration and flourish.
Shower was powerful and hot, beds were comfy and clean. Tea, coffee (with a jug of fresh milk) with biscuits was provided in the room.
All in all, save your money and spend it on decent overpriced wine at the Royal Hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front may get noisy at turning out time as it's next door to a pub.

We have styed in the Copper Kettle on 2 occasions. We have always asked for the double en-suite room, top floor. Our stay has always been greeted by very friendly staff (who move thier own car for you to park, as someone else stated stand in the parking space for you to get your car, and give you a parking permit for you to use in the lakes). Would you get this service at a big chain of hotels! The food is excellent and the room was comfy. The building is hundreds of years old so wouldn't look right with all the new fancy decor. I would recommend the Copper Kettle to anyone that wants to stay near the lakes.

Room Tip: Double en-suite room has a view over the rooftops towards the church.

We moved to Kendal a year or so ago from the south-east of England and have been trying a number of restaurants in the area.
This place tops our list.
We had the 3 course special and every part of it was excellent, good quality wholesome food perfectly cooked and well presented, and for less than £8 each.
The dining area is a little dated, but we prefer this to the sterile, plastic, manufactured restaurants which now seem so prevalent in the lakes and surrounding areas.
DO NOT believe any negative reviews of this little gem, just try it for yourself, we will be returning again and again.

After having a splendid evening at the Copper Kettle, I couldn't believe the poor reviews I saw afterwards. Being of a certain age (61), I loved the layout, the 60s/70s background music and the varied and reasonably priced menu. Yes, all a bit of a step back in time but a fabulous atmosphere in which to reminisce. The food was of a very good standard, well presented and pleasantly served by the lady of the house, and the wine list, whilst not extensive, was again very reasonably priced - a bottle of Brouilly at £8.95!!! Mine hostess was very friendly, accommodating, chatty and not in the least rude. We did not stay overnight but I understand the building is 17th century (another charming aspect of the place) and I realise the furniture and decor may be dated but that, to other guests, was clearly part of the appeal of the place. I came away raving about the Copper Kettle so was most surprised and disappointed by the negative views expressed from some time ago. To prospective customers, I would say "go and enjoy" - it was a memorable experience .... and all good memories!! Neil and Fi.
