“Lovely Lunch”
Reviewed 24 February 2014

We hadn't planned to visit here - but after going somewhere else (that turned out to be closed) dropped on here by chance.

What a lovely pub!

We both had and enjoyed the cottage pie. The portions were not huge - but I'd rather have quality rather than quantity, and my partner had room for a dessert.

There's also a nature reserve - you could be lucky and see a red squirrel on the bird table.

We' definitely be back - hopefully next time to stay!

“Lovely old hotel - B&B in beautiful countryside. ”
Reviewed 22 February 2014 via mobile

On a wet, cold and windy day we arrived to a warm and friendly reception.

Our check in was quick and easy and made even better when we found our way into the warm bar with a great coal fire and very polite and friendly bar staff.
Our room was in keeping with the feel of the place, the room and bathroom were spotlessly clean and the bed was comfortable.

We stayed for two nights and decided to eat in the bar area on both evenings. We were not disappointed. Our meals were excellent and we thought good value for money as well as being very tasty and well presented. Our breakfasts were of the same standard.

We booked this break through an Amazon offer so found it exceptionally good value for money, and the hotel also offers great package deals to.

If your uncomfortable around dog's you might want to consider that the bar area is dog friendly.

Great place, lovely people, tasty food and fantastic countryside!!

We'll be going back again.

“Pub lunch in Winter”
Reviewed 23 January 2014 via mobile

This is an isolated pub on the road from Kirkby Stephen down to Sedbergh. We visited on a Tuesday lunchtime in January - there were three other couples at the time we were there. My wife had the obligatory fish and chips and I had a lamb steak. What was done was good - good at what they do; the food was not cheap; surroundings a little sad. Overall not as good as their reputation - but ok for a decent lunch en route. Would use again if it were the most convenient stop.

Traditional country pub at the northern end of the Pennine Bridleway. Nature reserve adjacent. Few other pubs in the locality so take advantage when passing
