“Great hospitality!”
Reviewed 24 September 2013

We couldn't have received a more wonderful welcome from Barbie and Ken when we arrived after our walk from Orton. Room was clean, a little on the small side for two people with suitcases, packs, etc., but very tastefully decorated and very cozy. Couldn't ask for a better breakfast...the blood pudding is local and exceptional.

Hosts are coast to coast vets themselves, and they have incorporated the best of what they encountered in their own B&B. A real gem and so convenient to everything in in Kirkby Stephen.

We arrived dripping wet and covered in mud after our day's walk and were so very warmly greeted by our lovely hosts Barbie and Ken, who immediately looked after us, taking all the wet stuff to the drying room and offering tea and crumpets - what a wonderful welcome especially as we'd arrived before two o'clock! Our baggage was not yet there but warm dressing gowns in the room were ready for us after a hot shower. An excellent stay in a very comfortable room with all amenities and definitely the best breakfast on our Coast to Coast walk.

Stayed just the one night whilst walking the Coast to Coast and what a welcome - Barbie & Ken such friendly hosts and what a special little B&B with beautiful garden where we were served tea and crumpets on arrival. And what standards - most definitely the cleanest and prettiest B&B on the walk. The bedroom was very comfortable and well equipped with such generous complimentary luxury toiletries - all lavender themed - such attention to detail with everything on hand. Breakfast was delicious - excellent! Must once again say how lovely & friendly Barbie & Ken are - they could not do enough for us and were particularly reassuring on our departure as I was not looking forward to the bog land ahead in & around the Nine Standards on that days walk! Would definitely stay again if in the area and have recommended to family & friends. Oh - and lovely views from bedroom!

Room Tip: Definitely a little gem!

Just back after another two nights with Barbara and Ken. They have everything anyone could want in a B&B. and make you feel at home straight away with the lovely cup of tea and beautiful homemade cakes and scones at no extra charge. The bedrooms are really lovely with pleasant views of the countryside and plenty of variation in the hospitality trays. We brought a friend this time with us so we had both of their rooms which were the cleanest ever and every toiletry you could want. They cant do enough for you - lovely folks. Looking forward to going again soon I hope.

Room Tip: Both rooms are great.

The hosts Barbara & Ken were very friendly with a suberb hospitality. It was like coming home to (walker-)friends or to the own family and the warm welcome was unique. Everything was very clean and cosy, the breakfast was excellent and we were very sorry when we had to say good bye and walked on the c2c.

We were walking the Lady Anne's Way, and arrived at White Gill after a long and tiring day. Barbara and Ken understood (it no doubt helped that they are great walkers themselves) and gave us such a wonderful welcome, sitting us down in the comfy chairs, bringing us tea and biscuits, and booking the very best restaurant to eat at, using a touch of perseverance. The whole stay was a delight, it was so homely, and a great breakfast. If you are walking the Coast to Coast, or the Lady Anne's Way, this is the place to stay.

This superb B&B is located in the heart of Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria. Ken and Barbara are the most welcoming hosts you're ever likely to meet! The rooms are spotlessly clean with lots of lovely personal touches (and the views aren't too shabby either). For those of you who are stopping off on the Coast to Coast, the conservatory at the back of the house is the perfect place to put your feet up. Brilliant breakfast choices will set you up for a full day's activities too. Once you've stayed there you'll want to keep it to yourself! Ssshhhh!
