Only rating this for the food served (we did not stay here)
Popped in here for a quick bite for an evening meal. We were very unsure if we should stay as the place (dining room) looked rather run down and not very inviting.
Decor was very dark, dark wood tables, no lamp shades on the low-energy light bulbs, cheap napkins etc...
However we did stay and we are so glad we did. The menu looks very basic, just normal pub food. However the quality of the food, the presentation and the taste were superb.
We both ordered a pie (steak 'n' ale and chicken 'n' ham) - both were clearly handmade, beautiful pastry, crammed full of lovely filling. Wonderful vegetables, great fluffy chips.
The food far outweighed the atmosphere which was very average and not in theme with the great food.
Give the place a make-over, place mats, napkins, tile the floor (ditch the old carpet and half a dance floor) add a few pictures and some lamp shades and you could have a truly great dining room.More
