Booked here for a place to stay while going to a wedding do at Seaham. Two of us stayed here for one night in July 2012 - £65 a night B&B.
On booking the room over the phone I was a little apprehensive as there are no photos of the rooms or inside the building on the net, so I wasn't sure what to expect.
However, on arrival I was very impressed! We had a little problem with parking as the spaces are in a public car park which was blocked off for the carnival, but luckily we found spaces in another nearby car park. Check-in was in the resturant, which is very tastefully decorated and looks very promising for a new business. Payment was on arrival, the chap was very friendly. He offered to help with the bags as it's two flights up to the rooms and asked if we'd like a table for dinner, both offers we politely declined. As a previous review states, you're given keys to the room and the front door as there's no staff there overnight but you're also given the owner's number incase of emergencies.
The room itself was excellent and had everything you'd expect (tea, coffee, iron and board, trouser press, safe etc.) and it was very clean and tidy. Instant hot water from the shower in the en-suite in the morning which is always a bonus :-)
The only gripe we had was hearing staff arriving and working early in the morning as the restaurant and kitchen is directly underneath the room. Also, caravans in the car park outside had generators running which also woke us up. Perhaps a bit sound-proofing might do the trick, I'm not sure if or how they'd get around that(?)
Breakfast is 7.30 (IIRC) to 9am, and we had ours at 9 with the other guests. We had toast and jam and a full English and I spotted cereals and juice available too. The sausage tasted a bit funny but everything else was fine.
We signed the guest book with our compliments (on the top of the cabinet on the landing which hold the extra loo rolls and biscuits ;-) and on handing the keys back, I spoke to who-I-think-was the owner's wife and said they should really get a website to show-off the place and she assured me they were working on one. I wish I'd taken photos but I forgot :-)
Overall a very nice stay, with a bit more sound-proofing it would've been perfect. Well worth the money. Wishing the owners the best of luck and I'd definately stay again.
