Booked here for a place to stay while going to a wedding do at Seaham. Two of us stayed here for one night in July 2012 - £65 a night B&B.

On booking the room over the phone I was a little apprehensive as there are no photos of the rooms or inside the building on the net, so I wasn't sure what to expect.

However, on arrival I was very impressed! We had a little problem with parking as the spaces are in a public car park which was blocked off for the carnival, but luckily we found spaces in another nearby car park. Check-in was in the resturant, which is very tastefully decorated and looks very promising for a new business. Payment was on arrival, the chap was very friendly. He offered to help with the bags as it's two flights up to the rooms and asked if we'd like a table for dinner, both offers we politely declined. As a previous review states, you're given keys to the room and the front door as there's no staff there overnight but you're also given the owner's number incase of emergencies.

The room itself was excellent and had everything you'd expect (tea, coffee, iron and board, trouser press, safe etc.) and it was very clean and tidy. Instant hot water from the shower in the en-suite in the morning which is always a bonus :-)

The only gripe we had was hearing staff arriving and working early in the morning as the restaurant and kitchen is directly underneath the room. Also, caravans in the car park outside had generators running which also woke us up. Perhaps a bit sound-proofing might do the trick, I'm not sure if or how they'd get around that(?)

Breakfast is 7.30 (IIRC) to 9am, and we had ours at 9 with the other guests. We had toast and jam and a full English and I spotted cereals and juice available too. The sausage tasted a bit funny but everything else was fine.

We signed the guest book with our compliments (on the top of the cabinet on the landing which hold the extra loo rolls and biscuits ;-) and on handing the keys back, I spoke to who-I-think-was the owner's wife and said they should really get a website to show-off the place and she assured me they were working on one. I wish I'd taken photos but I forgot :-)

Overall a very nice stay, with a bit more sound-proofing it would've been perfect. Well worth the money. Wishing the owners the best of luck and I'd definately stay again.

Been to Massimos twice lateley and was not disapointed on either occasion.First was during "Happy Hour" and the two course meal was exellent value. The second occasion we picked form the evening menu and every course was delightful, especially the desert of Limoncello ! All of the staff are extremely friendly and helpful and couldnt do enough for all of the diners. Four of us had three courses , coffee and a bottle of wine which came to £88 which we thought well worth it. Although the food is not outstanding , it is very good , this will be our restaraunt of choice from now on.

Went here for a meal with the wife.
The sirloin steak was half the thickness of the ones you buy in asda (3 for £6.00) it was really tough.
The chicken breast had the longest vein running through it.
Everything was barely warm. For this and 3pints and 1glass of wine it cost £56.60 with chips and a small toffee pudding.
Never again...

Stayed here for the weekend earlier this month and found that on one night there was just one other couple and on the other we had the whole place to ourselves. You are actually given a key to the front door and once the staff have gone for the night you are the only people in the building until they return to cook your breakfast. Have visited Seaham for several years now due to my brother moving up there so we know a little bit about the area. Usually we would obviously stay with family but on this occasion he was fully booked due to a surprise party. We initially looked at The East Shore Guest House who have great reviews but on speaking to the owner they were fully booked and he actually recommended Massimos.
The room was very nice and clean but unfortunately blistering hot even with the windows open all night. The staff couldn't turn the radiator off on the landing either so you melted by the time you got into the room but apart from that everything else was great.
Staff very friendly especially Raphaelle? (sorry if i have spelt that incorrectly) who spent ages talking to us.
Also had a meal there on the Saturday evening which was really nice.
The restaurant is nicely decorated and has a good family feel to the place and all the staff are genuinely Italian speaking and do not put on a forced accent like in some restaurants!
Would we go back - yes
Would we go to the restaurant again - yes
All in all we had a good weekend

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have sea view for £5 extra
