When we looked for a summer break this year we decided to stay in the UK and we found Seaham Hall on Secret Escapes. We booked for 5 nights diner bed and breakfast traveling down from Perth Scotland. We arrived on Saturday afternoon having first of all stopped off at the Barbour factory shop in Newcastle where we treated ourselves to some great bargains. On arrival we were shown to our suite which I can only describe as excellent offering views over the gardens looking south. Our experience can only be described as first class and if we had any criticism it would be to review the Ozone menu for longer term guests. For a 5 day stop over and a limited Ozone menu we went through the complete selection and on the last evening we noticed a "specials" blackboard which gave a few more options to our meals. The food we felt was well prepared and presented and the staff were always willing to have a chat which for us we enjoyed. The staff could not do enough for us and with nice walks along Seaham beach, Durham city and the outdoor museum at Beamish on our doorstep we had plenty to do. We made full use of the spa and will definately recommend this hotel to anybody staying in the North east of England.

Room Tip: I would assume all rooms in this hotel are individually styled and would not fault the one we had.

Seaham hall is stunning and the service in the spa and hotel are second to none. The rooms are out of this world. We had a massage and it was one of the best we had. My only criticism about my stay is the sea grill restaurant, for £60 per head you would expect a lot more. we were booked in for 8:30 pm and were told to wait in the bar and we were sent for at 9:15 pm not good when you are hungry. The crab starter was the most blandest food I have had in a while also my partners prawns were very bland! the mains were ok but for 2 Michelin stars i expected more. I suggest to just stick with the ozone restaurant! Cheaper and better food.

Had a really nice 2 night stay at Seaham Hotel and Spa.

We were here to celebrate our Silver Wedding anniversary and I had been brave enough to make the booking without revealing the destination to my gorgeous wife. The entrance to the grounds set my mind at rest and we were made very welcome on arrival in the hotel. All of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful during our 2 night stay and nothing appeared to be too much trouble.

We spent the first night in a junior suite, room 18. Very roomy with plenty of facilities including a separate lounge area. Unfortunately there was a bit of a droning sound during the night that made it difficult to sleep. It turned out that we were above the air conditioning unit. Next morning the staff were apologetic and offered to try to move us later that day which ultimately they did – a free upgrade to the Bridal Suite (room 6). This was about double the size of the junior suite and had fantastic views over both the gardens and the sea. Just perfect for our 25th wedding celebrations.

We used the Spa both days and made use of each of the various pools, hot tubs, saunas, etc. On our second day some of the facilities here weren’t working properly which was a little disappointing.

Breakfast and dinner on both days were in the Ozone restaurant. With regard to dinner our starters and sweets were both excellent but we were a bit disappointed with the main courses both in terms of the quality of food and the urgency with which our meals arrived – hardly a gap at all after finishing our starter. This last issue also reared its head at breakfast on day 1 when our cooked meal was brought to us while we still having our cereal. Not what we expected from a five star establishment.

All in all we really enjoyed our 2-day stay and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it. But I’d suggest you try to be specific about which room you’d like and that, at meal times you mention when ordering that you’d like a little gap between each course!

We've been here a few times over the years, always for a relaxing break, and have enjoyed it every time. This time was no different except that some areas of the spa are starting to look a little worn and need fixing (eg some of the taps/hoses have come off or don't work) because I expect perfection here, especially for the price. The room was fantastic and breakfast in our room excellent as always. We ate in the new blunos grill restaurant which was fabulous (see separate review re this) except for the spelling mistakes on the menu. Again, it's the attention to detail that's slipped a little here since we last visited.

Room Tip: Ask for one near to the spa.

My husband took me here for our first wedding anniversary.... It was a lovely surprise and even better with the spa treatments the staff are so friendly and helpful and very polite... They made us feel very special.... Yes it's expensive but you only get what you pay for.... The only thing I would say is that we ate in the sea grill restaurant our table was booked for 9pm and didn't get to our table till 9.30pm then waited a further 30 mins for our starter... The time Inbetween courses was abit to long but other than that food was amazingly good will def be returning again and would def recommend this hotel

Our stay at the Seaham Hotel fell flat in many regards. We received the wheelchair suite, and whilst you sat on the toilet it made a strange whirring sound. I do not understand the function of this, for disabled people or otherwise. Then the bathroom started to smell horrible, and we were alerted there was a sewage back up. The cleaning staff proceeded to come in and spray with heavy disinfectant, while also leaving a rag by my toothbrush! The next morning there was a horrible unpleasant mix of disinfectant and sewage, very poor. The dinner at the Ozone restaurant was frankly horrible, with poor execution of simple dishes. The breakfast next morning featured a 'seasonal' fruit plate with uneatable pineapple, and the only good fruit, grapes, had three on the plate! We would not be visiting again in the future.

This superb hotel had the most comfortable room (room 5) with sea views from all four windows. Soft bed, feather pillows and plenty of them. The Chef is a genious, the food in the main restaurant was a joy. The Serenity spa is lovely, with treatments and a gorgeous pool. The staff are exceedingly well trained and pleasant, bags carried up to your room. Fresh milk in fridge. Nice touches. The whole experience left us wanting to come back. You get what you pay for, and it is not cheap. But hey! we wanted to be pampered and we were. A really grown-up hotel !

Room Tip: Ask for the sea view. Room 5 is a corner junior suite. No noise whatsoever. Huge bathroom. Lifts av...
