My husband and I popped in for a pot of tea and were still there two hours later. This is a beautiful hotel, very funky and with a fabulous modern water feature outside. The staff are a delight, the furnishings eclectic and the whole experience was lovely.

We shared a burger then shared some custard rolls, one of which has wasabi hidden in it - a bit like cake Russian roulette.

Very quirky!

Who would have thought that the North East had such a gem! We had a wonderful day at the Spa with back massage, light lunch, use of the pool, sauna, steamroom and Jacuzzis. Then a relaxing facial. Then we were shown to our room for the evening....out of this world!! The staff were fantastic, all very polite and made you feel welcome. The evening meal was plentiful and delicious and breakfast in the Chandelier room, what a delight!

Room Tip: Our room was a Junior Room with a sea view.......fantastic!

Lovely building, Byron's home. Gardens give an enjoyable area for a stroll to complete the experience, a drink and nibbles on the terrace. Comfortable elegantly furnished room with hall annex and large bathroom. Perfect staff, nothing too much trouble, made you feel very special. Spa perfect! Original and interesting artifacts with a blissful walk-way to the spa with everything you could possibly require on arrival. Bar staff a delight, mixing original cocktails. Bar meals so tasty and generous portions. Will be returning as everything there made our 2 weeks so enjoyable and surpassed our expectations .

Room Tip: All rooms very acceptable, well furnished, quiet no noise inside or out, lovely aspects. (shown a va...

My wife treated us both to a Spa treatment and meal at this establishment for my birthday. This comprised of an half hour treatment, use of the pool, sauna, steamroom and external Jacuzzis, followed up by a two course meal at their Thai restaurant. We had the back massage and were both more than happy with the treatment we experienced. We then moved into the pool area where you can relax in the sauna/steam rooms or sit outside in the Jacuzzis whilst having a refreshment. Finally after having a shower we went to the restaurant were we had some lovely Thai food. While we had this experience l can safely say we were treated by polite happy well experienced staff which contributed to our day.

This hotel is beautiful and the spa is outstanding - the outdoor hot tubs are fantastic to relax in with a glass of bubbly! Set in wild and open setting it has a slightly errie feel but very atmsospheric

Arrived to a great welcome from a really helpful porter. All the porters were helpful and friendly, giving us tips on visiting Durham, carrying luggage and parking cars.

Our room was comfortable with dual aspect and views out to sea.

We tried both restaurants. In the asian inspired main restaurant we loved the food but main course portions were small even though we are not big eaters. Our request for some vanilla ice cream with a desert was not received well in the open kitchen by the chefs and the embarrased waitress came back to tell us it wasn't possible. This seems unacceptable for an establishment claiming 5 stars.

In the top restaurant the serving staff were confused about the wine, brought the wrong bottle and then asked me if I could remember the number I had ordered.

We woke up on the last day to discover that we had no heating or hot water in our rooms. We we called reception they confirmed the boiler had broken down and we would need to go to the spa to shower.

In summary, the rooms and hotel itself are comforatable and the food and service variable. A way to go to hit 5 star hospitality consistently.

Beautiful Hotel with a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Each of the rooms we occupied including The Penthouse Suite were well equipped with everything you may need. The beds were roomy and exceptionally comfortable. I always love to sleep in a dark room so the black out blinds were a real bonus.
We spent a very relaxed and pampered day in the spa. Each of us had 2 half hour treatments. Each one of us enjoyed these without exception. Nicola whom I and another of my friends had for treatments was exceptional so I would highly recommend seeing if you could book with her. She gave me a facial to die for and equally if not more relaxing was my foot scrub. I would only say that to not book a treatment is a big failing as I wasn't going to and my wonderful friend booked and paid for 2 treatments for my Birthday. I felt / feel very spoilt and enormously grateful. Thankyou Mrs Collins
The different spa rooms were great along with a relax in the outside Jacuzzi 's and slumber by the pool. All the staff were very friendly and I must admit I did feel for the staff who must have been baking in their uniforms as it was such a gloriously warm temperature for us in our robes and cossies ,for those in suits must have been very uncomfortable!
Our lunchtime tapas was disappointing. We did only want a a small snack between us but we ordered 3 dishes of tapas plus 2 portions of chips between 3 of the group. The prawn dish( - 2 prawns! )was apparently delicious , Spring rolls again apparently tasty - 3 of these and Fish cakes -2 we shared these in disbelief. not only as they were only 2 minuscule fc's but they were rubbery and dense in texture. In contrast the chips were magnificent.Again the staff were friendly and attentive.
Unfortunately we didn't go to the Bistro so I can't comment on that restaurant. We went to the Thai based restaurant again in the evening. The food was in the main delicious. I think possibly its a shame that the menu isn't slightly more extensive for the PM meals.
We relaxed after our evening meal in the bar area which is not only comfortable but beautifully presented. Jonny the barman made us some cocktails based upon things we did and didnt like to drink......we couldn't recommend this place and him highly enough. The cocktails he made were out of this world and enjoyed by us all.
In the morning 2 of us decided to have room service which was to die for.....the service and the food was amazing.
The staff throughout were super. Particular mentions to Nicola ( SPA) & Jonny ( BAR). and a BIG thank you to all who made our stay a wonderful experience.

Room Tip: We had rooms on each level. All with good views and each room very different and beautiful in its ow...
