“Excellent stay, unbelievable place”
Reviewed 24 February 2014

Stayed over one night in a junior suite, had a meal in the Ozone restaurant and drinks in Byrons bar - from start to finish, I cannot fault any part of the stay.

From the moment we arrived the quality of the hotel was obvious. We were met by a member of staff before we had even reached the door. He showed us to check-in and then to our room and gave us a full tour of the hotel and Spa! The room was spotless and had everything you would need. The bathroom was fantastic as was the nice view of the sea. The bed was huge and very comfortable. The robes provided for the Spa are lovely and we headed straight to the Spa as soon as we were ready. the facilities are fabulous. Very clean and very relaxing. We dined in the Ozone restaurant which is located in the Spa - simple Asian food executed very well, in a nice atmosphere and surroundings. We had cocktails in Byrons bar which is a wonderful place to relax with a drink and look at the wonderful surroundings and chat to the lovely staff. Breakfast the next morning was great. It was served in Byrons Bar and again could not be faulted. Before we left we walked around the grounds, they suit the hotel really well and if the weather is nice I recommend you do this too.

I have been to Seaham hall a few times previously & never had any complaints but after my stay there last night I will not be returning. First disappointment came when we arrived at the spa and went to order some drinks before we jumped in the hot tub to be advised that alcoholic drinks were no longer served round the pool or hot tub so we could either sit in the ozone restaurant or out in the corridor!! We sat in the restaurant for a while but I didn't feel comfortable at all, no reason was given to why they have changed this but you would think they would have a designated area in the spa where you can drink alcohol? Secondly we paid an extra £30 to be upgraded to the Garden Suite & when we arrived at our room later on in the afternoon we found no secluded garden? Thirdly- before dinner we went for some drinks at the bar at 8.30pm but we were shown to our table straight away and given menus even though we were booked for 9pm! However we asked if it was possible to have a few drinks beforehand as we weren't ready to eat and the lady we spoke to was very kind, said there was no rush and showed us to the lounge. We sat in there for about 20 minutes but had hotel staff popping their heads in every so often to see if we were ready which was slightly annoying, its a spa- we want to relax not to be rushed! Fourth and most disappointing was the evening meal- in our package we could have two courses and we opted for Lobster Bisque & Scallops- the bisque was very rich and sickly but the scallops were nice however a little on the chewy side! We ordered fillet steak served with fat chips and onion rings- one rare and one medium. When the dishes arrived me & my friend had to swap plates as mine was medium and hers was rare- the steaks were stone cold and you couldn't taste anything but garlic, such a waste of a nice steak! It tasted like it had literally been doused in garlic, the chips were frozen chips and rock hard (the type that are served in a pub & not fat chips which should have been homemade) the onion rings had no sign of onion in them, they were just rings of batter and the peppercorn sauce was brown water and didn't taste of anything! absolutely disgusting, we complained to the manager who wasn't very helpful to be honest, he just kept asking if we wanted anything else to eat or free drinks etc- it was after 10pm at this point which is far too late to eat. This morning we didn't have breakfast as we were so put off by the food that had been served to us the night before and when we went to reception to check out & advised the girl we had spoken to the manager last night regarding the terrible food she cleared our bar bill but didn't seem at all bothered about our dissatisfaction. We wont be going back to Seaham Hall, I personally can tell that it has been taken over, the new staff made me feel uncomfortable and slightly awkward & as a spa you're supposed to feel relaxed and comfortable but its not anymore which is such a shame! An overnight stay here isn't cheap so why are they serving frozen chips and cold food? I feel we have been totally ripped off, not happy in the slightest!

We've had two visits in recent weeks. Brilliant, welcoming staff; spacious rooms; world class spa facilities; and a lovely seafood restaurant really made our stays. Under new management, this hotel gets better and better. Just off the A19, this is a great place to stopover, or stay for longer.

Visited for Afternoon tea in January. Had booked for 2pm, but arrived slightly early at 1:40pm, and we were sat quickly. Unfortunately arriving a bit early did not have a knock on effect for our afternoon tea arriving a bit earlier, having gone through 3 pots of tea and only getting our lunch at 2:45pm. The food was lovely, but we had plenty of time to build up an appetite to eat the lot! One of the more expensive afternoon teas in the region, but the setting and hotel make up for it.

We had a very low key wedding and stayed here as a 'getaway' after the ceremony. I booked an advance purchase dinner, bed and breakfast deal with use of spa included. The whole day/evening was perfect. The hotel is beautiful and spa was so relaxing. Staff went out of their way to make us feel special. We arrived to a beautiful suite with bath at the foot of the bed and a congratulations card, champagne and chocolates in our room which was so thoughtful. Dinner in the sea grill restaurant was amazing- portions were small but very tasty. Restaurant staff also fussed over us bringing complimentary champagne and tailor-made cocktails. Whilst we were eating they'd gone into our room to sprinkle petals on the bed! Breakfast was brought up to our room in the morning and it was lovely. We did however think that the ten pound extra to have it brought up was steep but we did enjoy it. Bed was comfy but I thought the room was a bit too hot even with air con. Every member of staff we passed spoke to either say hello or congratulate us... the fabulous service really made it for us. All in all, I thought our visit was worth every penny- I'll forever have amazing memories of my wedding evening thanks to the amazing staff at seaham hall.

Room Tip: The junior suite may be the most 'basic' room but we were not disappointed. Room 15 has the...

A long weekend here in January 2014 and we were very lucky to get a free upgrade, to the penthouse suite. My favourable review is NOT just because of that, but it was a lovely surprise.

To be brief, the team here are very switched on and go the extra mile wherever it is possible. The youngsters running the bar are especially friendly and well informed. Eating was a pleasure, on every occasion, simple but brilliant. And the spa is outstanding.

Highly, highly recommended.

Cosmopolitans in the bar were the best we've had too :-)
