“Great food but not all local”
Reviewed 2 December 2013 via mobile

The food was excellent. However the waiting staff couldn't tell me whether the Cromer scallops were dredged or dived. This is a basic if you're going to serve scallops. The chef didn't know either -apparently they were king scallops from the East Atlantic. Cromer isn't on the Atlantic?! The chef is obviously talented. I think if they paid more attention to local produce this place could be outstanding. Currently it is great.

“Special Night out”
Reviewed 13 November 2013

We visiited Fredericks resturant in August this year. It is set within the Ickworth hotel which is the private side of Ickworth House, the other side being the National Trust Property. All of the food served was exceptional and the staff were all very polite. Our waiter was clealy new to his role but he was being overseen by a senior member of staff so this wasnt an issue. Its worth noting that this is quite an expensive restaurant and we were visiting as part of a celebration so we would not be able to afford to visit here often. We would however like to visit again given the right occasion.

“Afternoon Tea”
Reviewed 1 September 2013

My wife and I have just returned from The Ickworth Hotel, having enjoyed their afternoon tea, what a super outing for us, this was our third visit here for tea and we are now looking forward to our fourth visit.
Delicious sandwiches, lovely scones, cream, preserve and cake, lashings of redbush tea.
We will be spending a few nights at Ickworth shortly and will update this site thereafter. In the meantime, would recommend highly, certainly as far as the afternoon tea is concerned.

“Ruined treat.”
Reviewed 29 August 2013

We received a voucher from our Son and Daughter in Law for afternoon tea at The Ickworth Hotel, and we were looking forward to a lovely experience, The experience we had was not what we were expecting.

We arrived and presented our voucher to the waitress in the restaurant. We were served with a pot of tea without being given any choice as to which tea we would like,( we would definitely not have chosen that one), a pot of jam and some butter. After sitting for about 20 minutes and drinking what was a very insipid and tasteless pot of tea, a waiter appeared with a scone each and some cream on a slate dish. The cream was not even in a dish, but placed on the slate. We asked if there was anything else to come and were told no, that was it. We ate the scones and then got up to leave feeling it was a complete waste of money for our Son and his wife as they had paid £39 for out treat. As we were leaving a waitress approached us and said we had not had our sandwiches and cakes. We informed her that we were told by another waiter that we would not be getting anything else, and after eating the scones and drinking the terrible tea we did not fancy sandwiches as these should have come first. She said we could take them home with us instead and she presented us with two plastic containers with what should have come to our table. Total embarrassment. We are sure this is not the way it should be done and feel so sorry that our Son took the trouble to book this treat for us which turned into an embarrassing and upsetting afternoon.

.The only ones we will commend for good work are the gardeners as we did enjoy the grounds but could have seen these without the cost of a terrible afternoon tea. We were so disappointed that this gift to us was such a let down thanks to the staff at The Ickworth.

“Very Enjoyable Night Out”
Reviewed 8 April 2013

We ate here with our two daughters aged 13 and 10. Being a part of the Ickworth family hotel, I think it is normally restaurant for adults to have a nice meal without the kids who are being looked after in their rooms by someone else, but they did not have an issue with our children being there. There were certainly many couples dining.

We were seated in the "Chinese Room". It is a beautiful setting for a dinner and we felt very special being in there. It would be perfect for a party of 6.

The staff were very attentive and looked after us very well.

The food was delicious.

If you are staying in Suffolk and are looking for a quality dinner, then I would recommend Fredericks to you.
