“NOT FOR CHILDREN!!”
Reviewed 12 March 2012

My Husband and I wanted a seaside break with our Daughter (22 months). We googled family friendly hotels and this came up, it looked fab so we booked it. And it is fab really, very clean, tidy, lovely pool area, good size rooms and very helpful staff. BUT, i wish it wasn't advertised as family friendly. Children are not allowed in the bar, and we couldn't all eat dinner together as children eat 5:45 until 6:45 (we were not allowed to order any adult food at this time) then from 6:45 adults can eat in the restuarant but no high chairs or pushchairs are allowed in there at this time which ruled us out so we ended up having sandwiches in our room in the dark while our daughter was asleep. It is so old fashioned for children not to be allowed in bars and restaurants these days, we were very surprised. I also didn't see any other children in the hotel in the time we were there, granted it was just one night. To be honest I didn't see any young couples at all (i am in my late 20's and my husband early 30's). It is very much for elderly people really. The hotel was so quiet we were whispering as we didn't want to make too much noise. Unfortunately it had no buzz about it at all. If you are looking for an extremely quiet break then this is perfect, but if you are planning a family break then think again.

It is twelve months since we visited "The Blakeney" and found it better than ever. I suspect however it may not be to everyone's taste. What are we recommending then? Well good food, friendly attentive service and a relaxing atmosphere on a unique location. It is expensive, many of the guests are not in the "first flush of youth" including ourselves. It is probably not the place for younger folk to consider for a stag or hen party. Children might find it boring. For the rest of us it is a very welcome touch of luxory, to be looked forward to and relished. It is privately owned, long may it be so. Goodness knows what a big corporation would do if they took over. Ruin it almost certainly. Spoil yourself and take a trip to North Norfolk. you won't be disappointed!

Room Tip: Not a big problem but try to keep away from over the kitchen extractor fans. They do turn them off...

We had the great pleasure of enjoying a lovely winter break in Blakeney, it was our third visit over a period of four years experiencing the same friendly welcoming services of all members of staff. the rooms are nicely decorated and comfortable with all mod cons .
the breafast and dinner menu's were excellent with a good variety of excellent well cooked and presented food.
As i said it was our third visit but it will certainly not be the last, once again thankyou to all the staff for making it another memorable stay

I brought my parents here in June 2011 for a couple of nights to celebrate my father's 85th birthday. Although our visit was some months ago, I still think it is worth posting this review as I think it is such a nice hotel.

The Blakeney Hotel is right on the waterfront at Blakeney overlooking the quayside, the creek and the marshes. The restaurant, on the raised ground floor overlooks the creek and on the first floor there is a large residents' lounge with huge picture windows and a fantastic view over the creek and marshes towards the sea. There is a lift. When we were there, the guests were mainly late second-agers and third-agers, which meant it was a perfect venue for my parents.

For my parents I had booked room 43, which I think was one of their A+ rooms. This was a very large second-floor room with lounge area, roof terrace and a great view towards the sea. I had room 14, possibly one of their category B rooms, which was a good-sized double, also with a sea view. At the time of our visit, the hotel was undergoing a refurbishment programme. Room 14 had been refurbished, but room 43 was still to be done and so looked a little old-fashioned, but was still perfectly fine.

The restaurant was good: excellent traditional English breakfasts and two very good dinners. My favourite dinner: a tian of crab, roast halibut with new potatoes and a perfect light morel sauce and a selection of cheeses to finish. To drink, a really nice bottle of Macon Villages (with lovely apple scents) and a good glass of red to go with the cheese.

An enjoyable stay in a really nice comfortable hotel: a perfect place to stay if you enjoy the wide open skies and wild coastline of North Norfolk.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a view towards the sea.

We stayed here as part of a very large family group!

Our rooms where outside, across the entrance to the car park, great rooms, very comfortable and quiet, well equipped.

Breakfast was very good, lots of choice, evening meal caused a problem, being such a large group think they struggled with our order which got mixed up, somebody who ordered a steak didnt get one, when asked if they could do another one was told it would take 20-30 mins!! In the end had to have what was quickest as we all had our food!! Food was nice, and plenty of choice.

Chap behind the bar very friendy and kept our glasses full. All staff very friendly in all areas. Kids loved being able to go and play table tennis and snooker in the basement.

Great location and will be back again, but on our own for a change to enjoy the quietness and relaxtion this hotel has to offer.

We had morning tea here today for an 86th birthday present having been told that the refurbishment had made a big difference to the place. We couldn't believe how beautiful the whole hotel now is. The decoration, service and ambience was superb. Do make sure you go upstairs to the lounge overlooking the harbour and marshes. A very special place indeed. Ignore any reviews from before October 2011 as this is now a totally different place to how it was in the past.

We have stayed in some very splendid hotels here and abroad, but few have had the visual impact of entering Blakeney Hotel. The designer should have their portrait hanging in the beautiful reception hall. There was all that fuss about Olga Polizzi's make over of the hotel Tresanton in Cornwall: there should be more about the designer here: absolutely fabulous.

We stayed in room 3, a triple aspect room, which was lovely and very comfortable.
We had the best afternoon tea I can remember having anywhere, so if nothing else: GO THERE FOR TEA!
Sadly, the dinner was a bit of a let down. The starters were very poor and not up to any rosette standard. The main courses were good, but the pleasure of the meal had already been dimmed somewhat.
Breakfast was very good.
The spar area was lovely and most unusually, used by me! (costumes are available for sale from reception).

A tip I would like to share with you: there are several messages about the hotel and its grounds about if you are parked under any trees, there are nesting birds and you can get a cover for your car. DO SO! We didn't bother and when we came to leave the following day the car had literally been pebbledashed with poo, and some of those poor birds had oviously been very ill.
An immediate visit to the nearest car wash (Sheringham) removed some, but not all of the deposits. Be warned!

If the food could be brought up to the standard of the afternoon tea and the surroundings one would probably have to book a year in advance!
