Returning to the Blakeney Hotel is always a pleasure because nothing really changes there. The interior has had a revamp which has been tastefully done but personally I miss the chinz and the old sofas that you lost yourself in! The staff are calm and eager to make your stay comfortable and really do love their jobs. To eat breakfast gazing out at the tidal waters rising and falling across the timeless estuary landscape is beyond price. No muzak in the dining room...just peace and quiet and excellent food...traditional menu...love to see a great curry offered! The Blakeney is a great antidote to urban living and a few days or long weekend will recharge your batteries. Which brings me to the plumbing. There was a malfunctioning flush on the loo...so we were relocated to a four poster room which had a working flush..but the handle was upside down. you had to pull the handle up rather than pushing down..but hey..it worked! Most efficiently dealt with and the view across the estuary was lovely. The sitting room upstairs offers amazing views and is perfect for dozing behind Country Life...Blakeney is a timeless Norfolk retreat that will restore your zest for life. Coastal trudges, fresh air that invigorates and good food that is always a treat to behold..and beds that cosset the weary...not to be missed.

The hotel was surprisingly full for a cold weekend at the end of January, with a good mix of ages and not at all like the upmarket retirement home that other guests have reported, The first impression was positive, following the refurbishment of most of the public areas. It spoke of quality and that is how the hotel sets out its stall.
We had a balcony room at the front for a special occasion. It was slightly small for this category of room, but perfectly adequate. The refurbished bathroom was good, although I might have wished for a separate shower cubicle, rather than one over the bath, but the provision here seemed constrained by the available space.
The meals were the highlight of our stay. The breakfast was superb, both in the range of food offered and the quality of the ingredients. The home made bircher style muesli was especially good. Dinner also came with a lot of choice, all top ingredients and well cooked. The service generally was very efficient, although a glass of wine was forgotten on our first night. My only suggestion for improvement would be to change the bakery provision - the bread rolls were completely tastless and the teacakes hard and unyielding.
The leisure complex is superb and reserving use to guests only kept numbers using the swimming pool to pleasant proportions.
The location of the hotel is excellent and apart from a few small gripes, the overall experience was very good and can be recommended.

We had visited Blakeney before and eaten in the hotel. So we knew it was a lovely spot and an attractive hotel. We were not disappointed staying here. Our daughter age11 loved the swimming pool, the food, the table tennis and the views. We had a B category room which we found plenty big enough, even with a children's bed put up. Service was attentive, quick and friendly. The hotel had thought about children eg children's food. The special offer DBB offer was good value. The hotel was full of other families and had a nice atmosphere in the evenings with open fires, comfy sofas, plenty of newspapers and games to play. We also fitted in a trip to nearby Holt - good shopping - and the Cley bird reserve and the beach at Salthouse. There was a good secondhand book sale in Blakeney too.

We stayed here for New Year on a 2 night break and were very pleased with our stay. I agree that the hotel is not going to attract a young age group. So if you are looking for lively and loud this is not the place for you. However if you are looking to relax in a quiet, comfortable hotel with great service and food, in a beautiful location, this could be the place you are looking for.

We knew that our room would not be the best as when we booked we had the last room available – a B grade room, but even then it was not that bad. It was very clean, with a comfortable double bed and could even get a corner view of the estuary. The only thing that let it down was the over-bath shower, not very powerful at all. Although our friends were on the floor directly below us in a lovely large A room which had a nice large bathroom with separate shower cubicle and powerful shower. Our friends were the people mentioned in a previous review who had a smell in their room and I must add that they were more than happy with the very proactive actions the hotel took to deal with the problem.

Our stay included 2 evening meals and both were very good. Breakfast was also of a very good quality with plenty of choice. The staff were obviously busy with it being New Year, but our service certainly did not suffer because of it.

The New Year entertainment was not to our liking. The band were certainly catering to a much older audience (and we are late 40’s early 50’s!) and the sound was not good at all. Not a hint of Gangman style! Also, they did miss midnight with no countdown, wishing everyone Happy New Year 3 minutes after the event – a bit poor when most people had booked to see the New Year in with style. Having said that we just thought it was funny and stood at the bar area laughing and having our own New Year celebrations, enjoying the free champagne that flowed freely at midnight. Also it did not seem to spoil the entertainment of most other guests who seemed to very much enjoy their evening.

The greatest asset we found here were the staff. They were always smiling and always helpful and even found me a charger for my ipad! They even smiled and carried on in a friendly calm manner managing to deliver an excellent breakfast on New Year morning when they lost their electricity supply.

Yes we would recommend this hotel to anyone as somewhere to stay for a quiet weekend in a beautiful location in a hotel with clean comfortable well decorated rooms , with good food and excellent staff… BUT will only recommend to my old aunt for New Year celebrations.

Room Tip: Shower not good in room 52 - B grade room.

I am a single dad in his mid forties with three kids. We keep returning to the Blakeney Hotel because I love it and the kids love it. To be honest you have to be a spectacular sourpuss not to love this hotel. It is particularly good for kids because of the indoor heated swimming pool which doesn't have a deep end. The kids can spend hours in the pool and be nicely worn out by the time it comes to going to bed. We can also share the same room because they have lovely big rooms with bunk beds and extra cots. 63 and 62 are our favourites. The kids also love the restaurant because the staff treat them like adults and because there's plenty of food they like. Because I'm coping with the kids myself I am particularly impressed with the staff who are unfailingly polite and helpful. When I'm working I am used to five star hotels. This is a different kind of hotel where they really respect and welcome you as an individual. I would much rather stay here than in any of the big hotels with the marbled receptions. It's also great that there is a mix of ages. It just adds to the family feel. We respect the more mature guests and they respect us. It's that kind of place. My children are already looking forward to the next visit. I intend to be coming here for a long time to come. Thanks to everyone in the hotel for a really great place to stay.
