Owner description: Daily boat trips to see the seals ( guaranteed )IMPORTANT PLEASE NOTE Sadly, but with some degree of relief I have decided to no longer respond to any trip advisor reports from November 2016 onwards. I have always been pleased that Bishops Boats responded appropriately ( I hope ) to every one and thank you all for the generally great reviews, and the feedback from the very few not so great ones. There are also a few very unfair and unjustifiable ones included also. To the few trolls our there, you don't realy win because your comments are transparent and a waste of only your own time, no longer mine. Compliments are easy but complaints ( especially spurious ones ) are incredibly time consuming and while every genuine customer is very important to us it is with 136 reviews( most are good or excellent) to date, over 4 years it is a tiny proportion of our business consuming an inappropriate amount of time. This I believe is because TA is generally a sounding board ( at least originally ) for bad catering and accommodation experiences. It may have grown beyond its own natural capacity as everything it seems can now be rated, but is often only done if things go wrong or someone has has a grudge or a gripe. Please do feel free to comment I am grateful, but please try to be fair and be truthful. I will occasionally now look at reviews and take on board comments.I will not check religiously any longer in case I have inadvertently upset someone, or someone has got something wrong. If things go wrong I will put them right on the day as always where I can, if appropriate comments are made then, not after the event! I will no longer comment on posts whether good, bad, indifferent or fake. If you have a genuine complaint you can tell as many people as you like about it on the internet, but if you really want something done about it please speak to me! Thank you for taking the time for past and future comments. Paul Bishop - owner - Bishops Boats Seal Trips

We took the Bishops Boats Seal trip on11th June 2014.
Booking was easy - just a quick phone call, then collected our tickets from Blakeney Quay which was no problem as we were staying in the village.
The boats sail from Morston Quay, 2 miles down the road.
We were the first boat out so had great views of the seals before any other boats arrived.
The crew were very friendly and pointed out various birds on the way. The skipper even went out a little further as there were a lot of gulls and terns fishing.
Excellent close up shots of the seals.
Thank you for a great trip. We came back with big smiles on our faces.
If you have the chance then you must go.

Thank Shaun L

Thanks for a great review & nice pics. Being the first boat out usually does mean a short walk to get to us , but its definitely worth it. I am glad you found the crew very friendly.

Bishop's use traditional clinker-built boats that take 40 passengers. They have passed muster with the UK Maritime and Coastal Agency (MCA). The skipper / guide was really knowledgeable about all the birds we were seeing, and the seals too. We got up real close. With 12 x 40 binoculars we had very good sightings of terns (three species) on their nests and with chicks. Brilliant to see how the fledglings that can fly are taught to fish for themselves. We saw some less common birds too: little terns, a red breasted merganser, and spoonbills (on the mainland, near the dock / jetty. We were lucky to catch a spot of beautiful weather. At £19 for a 90 minute trip this was excellent value for money. It is impossible to visit this part of Blakeney Point solo on foot - it is a nature reserve. The trip is great for children too, because the seals are so tame they swim right up to the boat. I'm confident that all of the operators provide a similar service - but just check that they have MCA accreditation

Thank you for taking the time to give an excellent review. Not sure about the pricing as it is usually £10 per adult, £5 per child & under 2's go free.(with a very occasional discount offered!)
Passenger safety is very important to us, so thanks for taking the time to ensure we are properly licensed.

Wow, who thought you would get so close to so many seals. This is a must do trip if you are in the area. The boats are clean and well run and you get ample time to take pictures and the like.

Thanks for the great review. We get close to the seals on 'bad' (wet) days too!

We were staying at Blakeney, and saw the notice boards on the quayside advertising the seal trips. We had not been on one for several years, so decided to go the next day, and picked Bishop’s as they went 15 minutes after the others. A short phone call to them made the reservation, the next morning we paid, collected our tickets, and drove to Morston quay where the trips start.

If you are a National Trust member or are planning to walk the marshes afterwards use the NT Pay & Display car park, otherwise park in Morston, and walk 5 minutes to Morston Quay. Parking charges in NT car park are high.

We walked to the quayside, Bishops boats are moored farther away than the other companies, and as we started along the track towards them, we were stopped and told the recent high tides had over-topped the footpath, and it was very muddy, so they were bringing the boats nearer.

This meant that they had to wait until other some company’s boats had departed. They suggested to us and another family, that we transfer (no extra charge) to one of them, so we did. Bishop’s then moored their boats along side the quay to let the other customers go on. Excellent customer service and I’m sure the trip would have been as good as the one we had.

Thank you for a great review. We are a small family business and every customer is important.
We often have to adapt to the environment and it's changing nature .ie weather, tides and seals!
Glad you had a good trip

So glad we booked this and it is a must do in the Blakeney area.

Very easy to book, called the number on the board at Blakeney harbour and choose date / time. We managed to get a 6.00pm trip and with the great weather we knew it was going to be a good trip. Would say it took 20 minutes to get to the seals but so worth it - there must have been 70 odd seals on the beaches and was a joy to see them come near the boat. Jumpers are needed!

Be prepared to have plenty of change for parking - your advised to get to the boat gangway 15 minutes early BUT the car park charges are hefty before 6.00pm. So it's not great that you have to pay the full price of a few hours parking for essentially 15 minutes. We took our chances and didn't pay (naughty).

Overall a great evening and if you have kids they will love it.

Thanks for taking the time to give a nice review. Early evening & early mornings are usually the best ( and often the quietest) trips. Parking fees are virtually unavoidable at Morston unless you are a National Trust member, the fee is for all day, but there is a nice walk from Blakeney if you prefer.
