Thoroughly enjoyed this trip which we took a couple of weeks ago (my partner, myself and our two youngest – aged 17 and 11). It cost £13 each for an hour and was well worth it. The boats are not running at full capacity – in order to try and maintain distancing on board and you are required to wear a mask (although one family on board – a mother, father and child didn’t). The crew are really knowledgeable, giving commentary along the way and also answering questions. We got really close to loads of seals (both basking on land and splashing around our boat) We all really loved it. TIPS: – you MUST book in advance (and they get booked up quickly – so give them a call) – it was fairly muddy on the walk to the boat so don’t wear good shoes! – if you have a good camera bring it (my mobile phone could not zoom in far enough to get decent shots).

Lovely afternoon sail out to see the seals. Our boat was evenly spaced out which was great during Covid times. The crew were fantastic with their knowledge and we got to do 3-4 loops of seeing the seals. Would definitely recommend and you need to book in advance as can be very popular.

The boat ride goes from Morston Quay and I bought our tickets from Blakeney at the Quay. Booking essential in the summer months as it fills up quickly and can book several days ahead.
We decided to walk along the National Trust North Norfolk path between Blakeney and Moorston Quay. It was easy walking and took about half an hour. It was a good way of acclimatising to the surroundings.
We had a sunny morning so it was a pleasure to be out on the water. It was a little choppy and we were advised to not sit right at the front of the boat but decided to anyway. Got a bit splashed about two or three times but it was part of the fun.
It’s an open boat so check the weather and bring a waterproof just in case.
The crew of two take you right out to the end of Blakeney Point and within about ten metres of the seals. They were on the sandbank and also bobbing about near the boats.
The guide was helpful and explained the numbers and the species, and answered questions.
It was £13 per person (cash) and well worth it.

the classic seal watching trip to Blakeney point. I was brought up in Norfolk and hadnt done this trip for about 40 years . The process is much more commericalised ( obviously) . Bishops are good , their boats open and roomy ( although probably less people allowed due to covid ) . you have to collect tickets from blakeney quay but our trip went from Morston , this may be tide dependant. ITs an hour round trip , good for kids to do as not to long, there was even a dog on our boat enjoying the outing !

We booked this after a quick scan of reviews of the selection of operators offering a very similar experience. Now maybe we were lucky, but our boat was the first to depart on the afternoon in question (Tues 18 Aug), and so first of the flotilla to reach the seals, which was lovely. Maybe Bishop's are always first out, we don't know... Our two crew were really nice, chatty and gave us just enough random information on the way out/back, and just enough on the seals etc. while out there. As a trip in general, I would say it's well worth the money, and if you're in Blakeney, then do it. BUT... COVID awareness was very very poor... We were told we would be required to wear face coverings while on the boat, and that we must be able to get on/off without assistance, as assistance right now was a COVID No-No. All fair, and no issues with that. And while the crew did state they could not help anybody on/off the boat, if they'd been any closer to folk getting on and off, they could have carried them... And nobody at any time was asked to wear a mask/face covering, and the crew wore nothing either. Now OK, we are outside, we get that..., but at times you will definitely be within aerosol distance of others on the boat, and if guidelines say masks should be worn, then masks should be worn. Some of the other operators clearly enforce masks for passengers from what we observed. So in summation, a lovely trip, well worth the money, and a couple of nice crew members..., but COVID insecure for sure.

Thank for your frank and honest review. First I must say Im glad everything else seems to have been good. I must point out that we nor anyone else can enforce the wearing of face covering unless you are the police, and even then there are many exceptions. Very few people have been prosecuted to date, mostly because of the very confusing rules. It is a pity you did not mention your concerns while onboard as I am quite sure all had masks, except for children under a certain age and the many exempted adults, the skipper would have asked everyone who had to, to mask up, But it cannot be enforced. I think you may have mis-interpreted the governments confusing and conflicting advice/rules/laws like all of us, nothing seems to be enforced or enforceable, try self-isolation rules for example! You may also have noticed we are only operating at about 50% occupancy so we can social distance as required. You have not indicated weather in fact you made a point of wearing masks yourself, but you would have every right to ask neighbors to do so to. For safety reasons staff do not have to wear masks and in this situation, as is the case for many business', ie transport for London (it could endanger skipper and customers in an emergency situation.) In these new days we are not expected to sit quietly and say nothing about covid, but please speak out at the time, after the event maybe too late. It does seem everyones experiance is different perhaps you should look at our review on the 13th August "Magical, covid guidelines adhered to, lovely experience in challenging times."
