“I didn’t like it, I loved it and Blakeney as well”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 June 2014 for a stay in April 2014

The Plover is situated in the very best location, a stone’s throw from the beautiful harbour and above a magnificent delicatessen. The Plover had style and creature comforts and I would recommend it on price, comfort, location and owner communications.

“Central location, but overall in serious need of updating”

Well situated. Whole building needs a serious clean and updating; mould, damp walls - crumbling off paintwork, pointless 'purple things' everywhere. On arrival, my heart sank; the front door is literally rotting!!! Spacious enough in living areas, but bathrooms, kitchen, appliances, etc. need replacing. When you switch the oven on it's like a turbo machine. On arrival we made coffee and it leaked out of the cracks in the mugs!

“Really Spacious Lots of character loved it!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 January 2014 for a stay in December 2013

We stayed with a group of friends in this and another property and had a wonderful time. It is a huge apartment with loads of character so it is like staying in a cottage but with far more space. You can see the quay from the bedrooms as it has little triangular windows that look out over quay and everything is lovely. Loved the colour scheme, I'm a designer! The kitchen is huge with plenty of room to eat with friends. The lounge had enough room to entertain as well. Would thoroughly recommend.

“I hope you like purple.......”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 November 2013 for a stay in November 2013

Well, if you are a fan of purple, you are in for a treat. Purple carpets, purple knick knacks, table cloths, mugs.....I could go on but you are reading this for a review, not for a rant on overwhelming purpleness and a difference in interior decorating taste. So:

Good points: it was warm (convection heaters so not so sure it will be this way in bitter winter), it was central and well placed. That's about it really.
The not so good points: it's a flat, the word apartment is far too grand. Accessible via a set of metal stairs. No floor is straight, I don't much have an issue with this as it is clearly an old building but if you have mobility or balance issues be aware. It is above a deli, be prepared for a man with a very loud voice ordering croissants at an early point in the morning, not much chance of a restful lie in. It does mean that it is close to a good food source (silver lining and all that).
There is one other review that says this place is very clean.....really? The bathtub is (possibly terminally) stained with an interesting black stains, slight signs with mould around the ceiling with peeling paint (dry rot?), the bathroom carpet (purple, like everything else) has some interesting stains, the bathmat looks about 100 years old, no hand wash, no hand towels and one whole toilet roll. The kitchen tap is leaking causing mould around the join in the tap.
You must pay £11 per person for bed sheets, towels, duvet and pillow cover. This was not mentioned in the ad for the property.
No parking and woe betide you if you try to drive up to the entrance of the property unless you have a tiny car like mine or your car can bend around 90 degree corners. This was not mentioned in the property add.
The second double room. No windows, this was mentioned in the advert, I question whether a room can be used as a bedroom with no windows as a way of escape in an emergency. To say that the ceiling is sloped is ridiculous. I would say at no point in the room can anyone over 5 foot stand up. The ceiling slopes at about a 45 degree from the entrance door downwards. Meaning that the bed is literally wedged underneath the ceiling with the head of the bed where the door opens into it. I would not call this a usable room in any way shape or form. It has a cupboard that made very interesting and annoying noises as the wind shook it. The shower in the "ensuite" did not work, we couldn't figure out how out use it. I feel for a room like this a picture with the ad should have been attached and again, i must stress, I would not call this a usable room, more like 3 feet wide by 6 foot long gap.
There was a very interesting, and persistent humming/droning noise from the loft. I emailed the owner as it was very distracting (as in it nearly caused me to go mad) and she said she would ask the cleaner to look into it when we left....great, very useful. I particularly enjoyed how the buzzing made a lovely accompaniment to my tinnitus meaning i had both an alto and a soprano noise constantly in my head. Go to the back of the property where the bedroom with the 2 single beds are and you will get a good feel for the noise. I got my two friends to verify that my tinnitus had not sprouted a whole new level of auditory annoyance and they could both hear it (so it's not just me going mad).
We decided to grill some bacon for breakfast, I suggest if you wish to do this as well, you take an oven tray or something to grill the meat on. You may also want to take oil, oven glove and if you are particularly splashy person and need more than a solitary tea towel, bring your own.
We then decided to settle in for the evening and watch a dvd. Except the player would not work, I believe that the scart may need replacing as we could get no sound on the dvd but plenty from the TV when switched to terrestrial in frustration and desperation when dvd would not work after 30 mins of fiddling and "why god why" type wailing. And the picture jammed a bit. I emailed the owner and was advised that usually she would get a new one, but we were only there for the weekend so she wasn't going to. Brilliant, we were in a small village with nothing to do (so we went out looking for fireworks). There is a VCR player, we didn't play with it but when the property is marketed as a mixture of modern and antique, I assume that this is the antique.
There is internet. It is slow but it is there (bonus!!) doubt you could watch anything over it due to (i believe it is known as...) buffering. Lots of it. It is rare that I wait 5 minutes to load a page about what's on TV.

The cleaner turned up on sunday at 11 and asked us when we were going to leave. We said that the terms said we had until 12. She said: yes,. but when are you going to go? Brilliant. We cut our losses and went.

The walls are mostly suffering from what looks like damp and possibly dry rot. Some of the windows don't shut (because of warping) so good luck to you if you go in winter. In fact, good luck to you getting up the metal stairs if it is icy. If you have OCD about pictures hanging on walls shut, keep your eyes closed unless you are a fan of random old art and purple vases.

All in all, if the owner had been honest in her advertisement I would have been better prepared. As it is, I would not be going back here and would probably use the youth hostel a little bit away on the coast, at least you get toilet roll, soap and bed linen thrown in!!

“Great stay in Blakeney made even more special by The Hideaway”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 October 2013 for a stay in October 2013

We loved Blakeney and are thrilled to have stayed at The Hideaway. Have stayed in this owners cottages before and they are always first class. The Hideaway was no exception. Really spacious, huge lounge with comfortable leather sofas you just sink into. What luxury. Really good sized kitchen diner with everything in it. Bedrooms are really sweet with triangular windows with window seats so you can sit and look at the quay. We would recommend to friends
