“a cup of tea and a look around”

We enjoyed an afternoon chat and cup of tea, in an informal dining area. We then walked about enjoying the ambience of the old building.

“Nice venue, no atmosphere, food .......”
Reviewed 28 April 2014

Was really looking forward to eating here but was very disappointed.

Went on Friday evening the place was reasonably busy but there was no ambiance about the place.

We were put in a room with other diners but you could all here each other's conversations as no background music.

I ordered the pan fried mackerel with couscous and mint dressing which I was looking forward to thinking it would be a whole pan fried mackerel, but what I recived was vacuumed packed smoked mackerel fillets as you buy in tesco plonked on top of some couscous the mint dressing was all over the food, it was not pleasant. I left most of the meal but was not asked at any time when the waiter took it away was my food ok!

Waiter dropped a jar of something on the floor as going into the kitchen and walked past it several times before another waitress picked it up, could of caused an accident.

Very disappointing evening!

“Scrummy yummy”
Reviewed 26 April 2014

Three of us for dinner last night. Soup to start, Mackerel on veg cous cous; flat bread and humus to start, tomato and mozzarella risotto, and me, well octopus tempura to start, haloumi orange and pomegranate as main, chocolate tart with salted caramel brittle and home made apple and blackberry ice cream - all of which was scrummy yummy. Service excellent/ambiance relaxed, comfortable and friendly: food 5/5, ambiance 5/5, service 5/5 - we even got a visit to the cellars afterwards

“Tasty fish platter”
Reviewed 18 April 2014

Called in here, during a lovely day walking round the old streets of King's Lynn. We shared a very tasty fish platter, which wasn't exactly what you might expect but nevertheless a really good choice. It included smoked salmon and anchovies on salad, a mini crate of freshly cooked whitebait, large rollmops, crayfish tails, home made tartar sauce and a few slices of Italian toasted bread - a few more were ordered! All in all a very good meal between us, washed down with halves of Ghostship. We were in a delightful, high ceilinged room which was very light and airy, although the restaurant did look a bit darker. There were other attractive rooms as well. The staff were friendly and helpful and we'd repeat the visit if we were to be in King's Lynn again, (it's too far away to become a regular).
The Ladies' loo is worth a visit, if only to admire the fantastic old range, which acts as a counter!

“Delightful location, lovely meal, chaotic service”
Reviewed 16 April 2014

Worth a visit for the historical setting alone - the building is beautiful and the decor and antique furniture are thoughtfully and successfully married to create a wonderful ambiance. We have visited just for drinks as well as to eat. The experience has always been a pleasure. The menu is varied and extensive ( portions are very generous!). All beautifully prepared and presented. The staff are welcoming and pleasant - if somewhat absent minded. Had to be reminded several times about drinks that had been ordered and despite querying it, still failed to add up the bill correctly ( in our favour!). Not a complaint as it didn't spoil the evening - just a bit perplexing as the place wasn't at all busy.
