3 of us had afternoon tea... which we took in the hall on lovely couches in front of the fire. At first the hotel seemed really full and we didn't fancy eating in the hall way but the party left and we were the only people in the hotel. Our tea was prompt and looked very good... far too much food and there was a lot left over which they offered us to take home. A selection of 4 different types of finger sandwiches, scones, clotted cream and jam and a selecion of tarts, biscuits and 3 different types of cake all served on a cake stand.. along with tea and coffee. Once food was served they left us alone which was nice until we wanted a top up of drinks.

There was a lovely friendly sleepy cat who lounged near to us too.

Stayed here for 1 night, and arrived in falling snow. Pretty hotel, and very pleasant sitting in a nice lounge with fire, sofas and resident cat - looking out over snow covered lawn. Nice top floor double room with small sofa and chairs. The evening meal was excellent, nice touched were a mushroom based amuse-bouche, and 6 small rolls (white, brown and tomato) left on the table and not prematurely taken away, excellent cheese board and high order cooking. Having a supplement charge for a scallop starter and a lamb chop main course - on a £48 for 3 course menu seems both naff and rather mean. Service was both friendly and professional. The wine list was pretty extensive, including a reasonable list of wines by the glass. A French Country Pinot Noir at £24, although full priced, was well made and enjoyed. Looking out over a floodlit snow covered garden, with the excellent food made a memorable experience. The breakfast menu was OK, no buffet for cereals etc. and no pastries or croissants available.
A few errors: had to ask for a second set of towels in our room; they delivered a Telegraph rather than Times in the morning; we asked for an espresso and a cafetiere after dinner, the espresso wasn't but just strong coffee (they couldn't be bothered? the one served in the afternoon was OK). A very nice touch was someone went out and cleared the snow from our car windscreen, in the morning. Our bill was £177 for afternoon coffee and biscuits, 2 glasses of pre-dinner wine, we both had 3 course dinners and coffee, and breakfast. But as we stayed under the Times offer (valid in February) that was our total bill , the room being included free. So our value was OK. Would I recommend it? Well nice hotel, excellent food, but your bill will be high!

We booked a gable room on the "winter warmer" tariff but were upgraded to a classic room on arrival. The good things about this hotel were the food and the friendly but unobtrusive service. The evening menu was varied and interesting and breakfast everything one could hope for. The room was clean and the bathroom spotless.

As a country house hotel Congham Hall has been converted from a private residence and this seems to have happened a while ago. The conversion was clearly well done and is well maintained, but time has moved on - the electric shower over a standard bath was functional, the bed was adequately comfortable.

There is a resident cat. Some guests clearly liked this. It can be persuaded to keep a respectful distance without cruelty :-)

This is tricky - it's a lovely place, great, no fantastic service as it's meant to be but I've been to a large number of places where I've paid a lot less and stayed in a much better room.

The reason I'm being negative is that prior to going when you look at the website it states "luxury accommodation" and we paid for a better room, but in my view I've had much larger at a Travel-Inn or Novotel for a lot less.

That aside, it was well presented, tidy, well set out and beds turned down whilst we were having dinner.

We were met at the car with someone holiday a brolly as it was raining and nothing was too much trouble throughout our entire stay there. When you go, you'll be looked after in a way that won't intrude but will be there just as you're about to say "can I have...." and it's there. To me that's how service should be - attentive but discrete.

The grounds are lovely - there's a herb garden and they grow a lot of their own vegetables too, which only adds to the great cooking the chef produces.

From the moment I booked at the hotel I was looking foward to staying here. The staff who took my booking were helpful, nothing was a problem for them. So I had set my standards high for the hotel....and they were definitely met if not exceeded!

To start with as you pulled up to the hotel, you are met at your car helped with your luggage the staff couldnt have been more helpful, and it really is set in a lovely location. The room was nice, very clean, very 'country house hotel' and suited the hotel perfectly.
The food was wonderful, I have eaten in a lot of top resturants around the country, and this was close competition for them! The staff are very professional in the evening, and we felt very pampered and relaxed.
Breakfast was equally as good, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs were some of the best ive had.
The check out was promt and friendly, asking how your stay was etc.

I would really recommend this hotel, not only are the staff some of the nicest and most helpful i've come accross its the little touches that make this hotel so wonderful, being met at your car, having your windscreen cleaned in the morning, poems on the bed at night, and the way the staff remember your name, what drinks you have etc. It really does make you feel that bit more special and relaxed. I am really looking forward to my next visit!!
and who can forget marley the cat...definately the mascot of the hotel.

We were really looking forward to staying here, and our first impression approaching the hotel was promising; a handsome, well-proportioned house set in its own well-tended grounds. First problem revealed itself when we got out of the car - a low but constant background noise of traffic. Our hearts sank a notch when we saw the room - spacious, yes, good bathroom, yes, but everything dated ( from the 1980's - a real timewarp).

Things got steadily worse with dinner - the food was fussy and extremely tasteless - just plain boring. The only bright spot was the staff - very pleasant and helpful.

Our two-night stay (dinner, B&B for two people) cost just nearly £900 - very poor value.

Well, I was seriously impressed with this hotel, not the first i've stayed here but I have to say the staff are just delightful and quite attractive for Norfolk too, guess their not too local!

The hotels well presented inlovely grounds and the foods great too, it doesnt seem to busy which adds to the relaxing atmosphere.

Well worth a visit again and again.
