Very enjoyable experience looking around this museum - interesting talk from a volunteer who was very knowledgeable. Cafe very reasonable and with friendly staff. Shame that there is no advertising in local hotels about this little gem!!
I have been aware of and have loved the traction engines of Charles Burrell for many years and this was something of a pilgimage to visit the place where they were built. Though the museum is small and the opening times restricted (quite understandable as it is run by volunteers and free of charge) it really is worth a visit. I planned my trip to Norfolk around this museum and the Dad's Army Museum opening times and was so glad that I did. Not only are there the beautiful and elegant engines there is also much on the history of the company that constructed them. The other reason of course for visiting is to see Jones's van from Dad's Army. The talk about the history of the van was fascinating and a visit here is an essential part of the Dad's Army trail in Thetford.
Even though we went as it was the starting point for a walking tour, as museums go it is very sparse. The one interesting thing is Jones Van from dad army
If you visit the dad’s army museum in thetford, don’t forget to go to this steam museum where you can see the original an from the series. Bob gave us a really interesting talk on its entire history! Excellent!!
We visited the museum as part of our Dad’s Army tour of Thetford. A great little museum with many steam engines in fantastic condition. Well worth a look.
A must see is Jonese's delivery van. The authentic vehicle used in the Dads Army Series alongside excellent exhibiys of equipment made by the Burrell Road Roller company. The volunteers are so knowledgeable and helpful. A must see alongside the Dads Army Museum
