“Cafe”
Reviewed 5 July 2014

This cafe is at the west end of North Berwick, There is a gift shop at the front and an art gallery at the back. If you are looking for a snack at lunch time while in North Berwick try this cafe out good choice of sandwiches and cakes. You can also park in the main street outside the cafe although the street can be busy at times, but there is plenty of parking in streets nearby.

Thank you for your helpful review. We have actually had a bit of a refit since you were here, so that the gallery is now at the front of the shop. The café is unchanged, though, so we hope to see you here again sometime soon.

“Very pleasant cafe for a coffee and home made cake.”
Reviewed 9 March 2014 via mobile

This is the second time I have eaten at the orangery in a week it is a good place to go with a old aunt and enjoy a tea time treat .The home made cakes are very good and beautifully presented. The set up is a bit of a mesh mash though. It needs a clear identity which it hasn,t got . It is not really an art gallery or a gift shop but it is trying to be that and a tea room. Weird. The staff look bored and indeed they are . It was very very quiet when I was in and somehow they forgot my order which strangely enough can happen when staff aren,t concentrating. The food was over priced for what is was a very average soup and a poor panni. There were only two tables mine and another and yet when I got up to pay the waitress said to me where were you sitting ?This cafe could be buzzing all year round with the right formula. On my last visit the friendly waitress said north berwick could do with a good wine bar well this could be a great location for one.The owners are employing far too many staff and to make money they need to be here themselves . If they have lost interest let it go to someone else. Empty shops are very hard to come by in north Berwick

Thank you for your comments. I am sorry that your experiences were not all that you expected, although I am not sure I understand all your observations. The whole point is that we are in fact a gallery, gift shop and café, offering a variety that I believe a large number of our customers find attractive. As for our having "lost interest", you will appreciate that as we are open 361 days of the year, it is not possible for us to be here every day. We employ very capable staff to manage things when we are away, but of course I will discuss with them the issues you have raised with the aim of improving our service. Finally, I believe that North Berwick may be getting a new wine bar/bistro sometime soon so things are looking up!

Great choice for lunch and scrumptious cakes and scones. Love to browse the shop and gallery and then stop for lunch. 1st stop from the train station.

Regular visitors to North Berwick, we have tried other coffee shops/bistros but keep coming back to The Orangery. Good range of homemade cakes and scones in a pleasant environment.
