“Special week-end away”
Reviewed 16 May 2014

Like others our room was a bit too warm and we did we could open the window. the spa and pool were lovely. during the evening meal my husband had asked for a particular type of whiskey and was served something completely different and then was told they did not have this whiskey. we asked for a liquor with our coffee and the member of staff laughed and said " oh we finished that one last night" he asked for a similar type and was told it was finished as well. The following evening they still did not have the drink my husband preferred. We could have gone to the off-license !!!!!!!

Lovely location with access to golf course and beach. Very friendly helpful staff who go out of their way to please. Comfortable bed in good sized room with plenty storage. Room a bit hot and unable to turn down heating, but window easily opened for sea breeze. Excellent buffet breakfast with hot breakfast cooked to order. Swimming pool and spa area wonderful. 2 kinds of steam room 2 kinds of sauna , 2 different pulsing showers. Crushed ice to cool you down and jacuzzi that is half indoor half outdoor. The outdoor area has pounding waterfall totally invigorating. Spa treatments are good with plenty relaxation areas. Within walking distance of shops, Sea World and restaurants. 5 day break great value for money. Will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Ask for sea view

Rooms clean and tidy. Bed very comfortable and quiet room. Couldn't turn off radiator, it had 2 settings Very hot and scorching. Shower was a bit dodgy - you have to keep adjusting knob or the water pressure drops off. Breakfast was pretty good, however I asked for crispy bacon and this was done in a deep fat frier rather than putting back under the grill - as I could taste onion rings. Expensive and I don't think worth the money, hence the title of review.

Room Tip: Don't ask for crispy bacon (unless you like it deep fried!).

Room clean, bathroom had very nice toiletries, bed really comfortable, breakfast was amazing and the dinner I had the steak and can't wait to go back to have it again. staff very professional and Courteous, Perfect location and beautiful walks, really nice shops close by. The sea bird centre is a 15 minute walk and well worth the visit. There are boat trips round the bass rock and law hill not to far away it is well worth the climb to the top to see the whale bone, the climb is not to hard but not for children under 10yrs but that's only my opinion . If the weather is poor you have the full use of the facilities game pool and spa which was the high light of my stay, there are at least 5 rooms sauna steam stone and Roma therapy and ice room. The outside jacuzzi was fab it was snowing outside but it was not cold but leaves your face with a perfect glow, wonderful. I can't wait to go back. The nine hole putting green was fun as I have never played before had good fun, plenty of pubs and restaurants .

This is a lovely hotel, perfect for a peaceful week-end or a romantic escape. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Good quality breakfast. The highlight was a location, right next to the beach and the golf course, perfect for a walk along the coast. Staff was friendly and professional

Dear SvitYa,

Thank you for your post on the Macdonald Marine Hotel & Spa.

Delighted you enjoyed your romantic weekend away in the perfect coastal setting. Our breakfast is great with fresh continental selection and a plated cooked breakfast.

Coming soon some new items to the breakfast menu - cooked to order waffles and pancakes....

That alone is worth another visit!!!

Dear Michael C,

Thank you for William's personal mention. He is very passionate about his restaurant at the Marine and delighted for the mention.

Between golf, beach, town, restaurant, bar, spa and hydro areas there is a lot to do at the Marine and North Berwick and minimum 2 days is recommended, therefore we hope to see you again soon!

Warm Regards

Ideally situated about a fifteen minute stroll into town the hotel enjoys commanding views over the Forth and the golf course. An old building (1800 hundreds?) which has been tastefully modernised by Mc Donald's while retaining most of its old world charm.

The open reception leads to relaxing lounges looking out to sea with comfortable seating and tranquility. I was though a little surprised to see a roaring fire in the main lounge on a lovely sunny weekend!

The room allocated to me was very well furnished with a very comfortable bed. Complimentary water and a tray of treats was provided. All the accessories expected of a four star hotel were present, hair dryer, iron, tea, coffee.

The bathroom was spotless although a little compact. I would imagine most people would have a problem fitting into the small bath! The usual toilet freebies were all present.

I personally found the restaurant service and food to be excellent. Polite attentive staff made sure that everything was to your satisfaction and were ready to discuss any requirements with you. Talking about staff I found each and everyone I encountered to be very polite and helpful.

In general I enjoyed an excellent weekend and came away feeling quite refreshed. I have already pencilled in a return to this hotel.

Dear Couperthwaite,

Thank you for detailed feedback and you're correct 18 hundreds; actual 1818 to be precise! It is a beautiful building with beautiful coastal views. The team and I are very proud and delighted it shows through their hospitality and service.

Can’t wait to have you back at the Marine, when booked drop me a note and I’ll ensure you're well looked after.

Warm Regards,
