“Cosy but over-priced”
Reviewed 16 October 2013

The main issue, as an another reviewer pointed out, is the price charged for this accommodation. Attic room price (£100) should be substantially less than the price of rooms on the other floors. There was a good sized bathroom with shower but no bath yet the attic room itself is large, and you need 20.20 vision to be able to see detail on the the TV screen. Also noise from central heating boiler and pipes makes it difficult if not impossible to get a decent sleep. Breakfast was not as exceptional as other reviewers have suggested. Certainly warm enough, as the whole building is constantly heated. The owners did not appear on the scene or make any contact with guests at any time, even although they have other businesses in the town, however their staff do a good job and are very helpful.

There is not enough information on the website to tell you important stuff like: No bath, Takes pets, Exactly where the car park is, and the fact that there is no obvious signage at the rear of the property. The owners should perhaps revisit their 5 year old re-design, or amend their pricing policy. Describing it as a "stopover" struck me as odd. Wouldn't you want people to stay longer? Shame really, as it could be good value.

The ground floor is a cafe during the day which doubles as the breakfasting area. Staircase to the room is via the common entrance. Key card for the room, brass trad key for the common entrance door when the cafe is closed - again this type of info should be on the website, but isn't.

Room Tip: If taking an attic room, beware potential for noise of central heating, and ask how this can be avoi...

The website describes this accommodation as "beautifully re-designed and renovated" - it wasn't. Our "double" room in the attic was clearly a room for 2 singles so the headboard was missing in the middle; the shaver socket didn't work; the socket for the hairdryer was practically inaccessible between the side of a wardrobe and the wall; the painted furniture was chipped; the mattress was well past its sell by date and very uncomfortable and there was no clock or box of tissues (usually provided in accommodation charging 100 GBP per night). This was one of 7 places we stayed in Scotland, Northumberland, Yorkshire and Norfolk and it was the most expensive and the lowest quality by far. Very disappointing.

I've been here a couple of times and like it a lot. My room was small but sweet with a lovely view onto Quality Street, so I got to hear the clock chime on the hour. I was there in March and it was freezing outside, but my room was snug. Handy location in the middle of town and close to the beach and harbour etc. Slept well, nice clean bathroom with shower gel etc provided, great breakfasts with healthy choices for vegetarians such as porridge, dried fruit and yoghurt, plus a decent coffee to start the day. Hotel staff friendly and looked after my bags on the last day when I wanted to wander around North Berwick. Booked an extra night as I was there to do some sketching on the beach. The hotel could perhaps benefit from brightening up decor-wise, but that's the only point.

We have stayed here a few times and find it just the thing! Spacious rooms, comfy beds, good breakfast and right in the middle of town. Go to the Harbour and sample the seafood from "The Shack" really great and especially if you get a sunny day.

Very nice dog friendly hotel which is close to the beach, shops and restaurants. Our room on the top floor was spacious, clean and had the most comfortable bed ever! The staff were very friendly and helpful (as were all the other local people that we met) and the breakfast was excellent, perfect to set you up for a day on the golf course or the beach!
The private parking was an added bonus. We would use this hotel again.

a nice hotel, right in the center of north berwick. Large rooms but just a bit unconfortable for golfers as it doesn't have a locker for clubs at ground floor. Nice staff and excellent breakfasts. In addition to this I can only say that I'm a man of few words and reaching 200 char is always a problem to me.

Room Tip: room number 6 was nice and with a bit of sea wiev

I stayed there for a couple of nights. The room was nicely decorated, the bed confortable and the breakfast delicious and the staff friendly. The hotel is in the centre of tiny North Berwick, close to the harbour. The only hiccup was that they run out of soaps while I was there. They put fancy cosmetics in the rooms and it may well be that it takes them some time to get the products, but what's wrong about popping to the local supermarket to get some soap in between?

Room Tip: There is a restaurant next door with outdoor tables, so in the summer it is slightly noisy until abo...
