Just back from a relaxing week at Barley Cottage.
It was in a lovely peaceful setting on a farm, down a country lane and I have to say we miss it already!
The cottage was very nicely furnished and extremely clean and cosy. We made fires in the evening (which we didnt really need as the weather was good and not particularly cold)but we couldn't resist as it was so cosy.
The cottage is spacious and well equipped- the kitchen had many handy items such as salt & pepper and cling film.
The beds were so comfy, everyone slept so well.
We woke up to some beautiful sunrises and great views especially upstairs.
The location was great, nice to see the gorgeous highland cows and it was only a short drive to Haddington where there is a decent sized Tesco. Haddington is a lovely town with nice little shops and take away options.
It didn't take long to drive to North Berwick where we enjoyed the seabird centre. Our son was very excited to see the seal pups on the live cameras. There are loads of great beaches - Aberlady,Gullane,North Berwick East & West beach, Belhaven and Seton Sands to name a few.
It was also great visiting Edinburgh, which is a beautiful city (my favourite) with loads to keep you occupied including a Harry Potter shop!! (Views from Edinburgh Castle are fantastic too)
Also recommend a visit to Peebles (where I grew up before moving to England sadly)It's a lovely town with some lovely walks along the river to Haylodge park.
It was lovely to meet Lucy and
Russell. They were so welcoming to us and left us delicious scones in the kitchen and very kindly let us pick a pumpkin from their patch. Lucy was also very helpful with directions up to the ruins which you can see from the cottage - this was a lovely walk through the fields and we had great views of the cottage from the ruins too.
All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our week at Barley Cottage. Thank you Lucy and Russell- hopefully we shall return, it's a great part of Scotland with many things to enjoy, made all the better by fantastic accommodation.
Missing the cows!
Lovely clean and well equipped house in a peaceful rural setting. Great location for exploring castles, beaches and towns of East Lothian.
We stayed as a family of six - 2 adults & 4 children (age 11 down to 3) and the cottage was just perfect for us. As we drove up the tree lined driveway of the farm our expectations were exceeded. The cottage was clean, modern and the décor was beautiful - it was just like home from home with everything on hand - the toys were a hit with our youngest 2 children.
Spent the week touring about - the Museum Of Flight was excellent (spent the whole day there), had a visit to Edinburgh Zoo & a drive down the coast to Holy Island. The train station in Drem (access to the station was via the farms back lane) was very handy to do sightseeing in Edinburgh.
When we got home from our days sightseeing we spent a lot of our evenings walking - the scenery was beautiful especially during July when the crops were starting to ripen - helped by the week of good weather we had during our stay,
So much to do and see in the local area and would highly recommend to anyone considering a visit to North Berwick or Edinburgh
Cottage was great with stunning views and everything else you could possibly need. Lovely walks around farm too! The location is perfect for exploring East Lothian and visiting Edinburgh, there are loads of great things to do in the area.
We've just enjoyed a family visit to Barley Cottage and everyone enjoyed their time there. The cottage is spacious and very well equipped with lots of extras for our baby grandson such as a travel cot and high chair. The country views were stunning too. We would definitely recommend it.
We spent a happy family Christmas in this beautiful part of Scotland. The cottage was very well equipped, and quiet with spectacular views........we also had some snow to top it off? Great for travelling to family in St Andrews and others just up the road.
Helpful and friendly hosts and lovely treats on arrival.
Luxurious accommodation including a handy and warm boot room (essential after a cold and damp winter walk).
We are looking forward to returning hopefully during the summer months to make the most of the garden and have already recommended to friends.
