“Wild Camping”

Arrived on the Tuesday 24th June booked in for the wild camping field. When we arrived on the field after a short trek through some lovely woodland we found we were only the second persons on the field, very peaceful week was had and lovely scenery as a bonus. A special thank you goes to Emma who had a fantastic hamper waiting for us as we had a 4 hour journey this was very much appreciated. The hampers are well worth the money and the food was fantastic. Will be booking again, hoping to check out the bell tents next time , thank you Dernwood farm staff for a great week.

Our second visit, this time with family for a special 1st birthday celebration. Safe site, plenty of space for everyone. Very relaxing despite a little bit of rain the first night. We loved the clear view of the stars and the beautiful rhododendron walk.

We stayed in the Oak Bell tent and were impressed. The wood burner and the gas cooker were fabulous as it was a bit chilly and I can't face the day with out a coffee first thing. Futon double bed and the 2 single fold out mattresses were comfy. Lovely seclude pitch. Our friends stayed in the Safari Tent or the 'Palace'. What an amazing tent hot water and a real shower which my daughter described as just like the shoer room at home ha ha! The shop was a real bonus too! We had Sunday lunch at the Gunn Inn I would recommend their fish and chips and their roasts …

the only thing that I would mention is that there is a bit of a walk to the Bell tents (mentioned on the website!) fine with older kids maybe a bit more of a problem with small kids in the rain!

All in all I would highly recommend staying here we loved it!

Lovely camping holiday with all the mod cons. We stayed in our own tents and the field was huge. Usual camping etiquette applied and it was family friendly.
i was shocked to discover they provided HOT SHOWERS!!! a real joy after a long day walking.
It was a really peaceful place with large grounds to get lost in. The owners were friendly and there was a little shop for meat, eggs and wood etc. the wood I felt was a little over priced at £5 a sack which didn't seem to last too long but I am from the north so perhaps it was standard pricing.
I would recommend this place to any one travelling nearby, a real treat and an energy boost to get back to nature. I would definitely stay here again. thank you for a wonderful weekend.

Room Tip: arrive early to get a good pitch

We arrived for the weekend on Friday evening, weather not looking good. Warm welcome from Amanda and children. We had chosen to bring our own supplies so didn't need the shop, (next time we may treat ourselves to the meal options available).
The walk through the woods was manageable especially with the barrows and trailers available, (pack as light as you can).
Our friends arrived and we got both tents up before the worst of the weather started - apart from wild rain and wind the first night (cosy in a warm sleeping bag - especially after a couple of drinks and dinner at the Six Bells at Chiddingly), we had fine weather for the rest of the weekend.
Lovely walks through the woods - will come back again and hope to bring our extended family at some point.
We walked across the fields (approx 1 hour) the next afternoon to the Six Bells for early dinner and stayed to watch the band. Friendly pub, good food and beer.
Plenty to do in the surrounding area, however we chose gentle walks and campfire chilling for a relaxing weekend :)
I hope the owners don't add too many 'mod cons', it's perfect as it is, with the option of bell tents and safari tents for those who prefer a bit more comfort.

Room Tip: Only 6 families/groups camping this weekend so easy to find a good space. Gate is on the east so you...

We treated ourselves to a whole week in the safari tent, and had an unforgettable time.

Our children are 2 and 4 and not very good at amusing themselves usually, but they loved it here, and spent ages pottering around the fire pit, swing and woods. The cabin bed was a hit, and my son couldn't wait to go to bed in the evenings. The children also loved the wildlife and farm animals.

The tent itself is just amazing, and so luxurious. It's very secluded and we were out of earshot and sight of anyone else, which is great if your children a as noisy as ours. There is lots of attention to detail in the interior, and the lovely owners have really thought of everything to make your stay perfect. The beds were so comfortable and cosy, with great big feather pillows and duvet - just right when it gets chilly outdoors. Having our own bathroom with hot shower was a definite plus.

We also treated ourselves to Emma's catering - everything we tried was great, but the afternoon tea was spectacular! She'd also put lots of effort into small details, and it makes the whole experience even more glamorous.

Nothing like "real" camping at all, but we'll leave that for when the children are older - and in the meantime would love to pay a return visit here!

We stayed for 3 nights in the safari tent which was amazing! It was in its own grounds and so very private; the kids loved running around and using the rope swing (as did I) and we all loved time around the campfire at night :-) a very happy time made even more special by the great hospitality of the owners and the lovely homemade food from Emma (Dernwood's camp catering - a must) :-) my only regret is that we didn't book longer xxx
