We make our booking about three months in advance. We asked for an ocean view if they had it. We were shown to our room, where if you squinted, you might be able to see the ocean out a tiny side window. We had a balcony door that did not lock. The room smelled very musty. Upon closer inspection, I turned over the drapes and found them to be completely filled with mold on the bottom. We didn't say anything to the proprietor. The staff was generally nice. The restaurant had very good food. We did have to park in the street overnight. It is a manageable walk to Port Isaac but up a very steep hill. They do have a shuttle service that you can call if you don't think you can make the walk or it is bad weather.

Room Tip: I would probably look for another place to stay.

We were walking the coastal path from Tintagel to Port Isaac and stumbled upon this hotel/pub at just the right time for lunch. We had a great lunch (sandwiches with salad and chips) and a good pint of Timothy Taylors. The land lord was friendly and although the food was a little bit pricey it was worth it.

Rooms were up several tiny flights of stairs, but comfortable & updated. No view but small private patio. Dinner was very good--had Parmesan risotto which was the best I've ever had. Afterwards had drinks in the pub with friendly & hilarious locals.

We arrived in Port Gaverne in the early afternoon when many people were enjoying the view and a pint or two at the hotel. We drove around the narrow lanes near the property to try to find parking. We found a sign that said "parking for Port Gaverne Hotel" so we drove past it to find a gravel lot completely filled. There were some driveways that we weren't sure of, but we parked there since we had no other choice. As soon as we checked in, we asked if it was allowed and the young woman at the reception desk told us "anywhere beyond the sign was fine."
We headed into town and wandered around Port Isaac for several hours and came back to the hotel about 20:30. About half an hour later our room telephone rings. The reception desk attendant was calling to tell us we needed to move our car because it was parked in the driveway of a private residence.
When we got to the lobby area, a local man told us that we had parked in his daughter's driveway and that she was very upset about it. I apologized profusely because the last thing we wanted to do was upset anyone while we were on holiday. We told the man that we had checked upon arriving and were told that anyplace was fine. He acknowledged that the hotel staff had said this before and that he was aware that the wrong information had been given out.
We moved the car into the gravel lot that now had an available spot and vowed not to move the car until we were ready to leave town.
Needless to say it created a very uncomfortable feeling while we were there.
To top it off, the same young woman who told us it was acceptable to park there was on duty as we were checking out. She told me that the room was unpaid, even though I had been notified by my bank that it was paid. She called over another person who showed her it HAD been paid. So off we went.
Otherwise, it was a very nice hotel. It was a little noisy until about 23:00, but then the crowd thinned out.
The proximity to Port Isaac is much closer than it may look on a map. Port Gaverne is quite beautiful. We were able to explore quite a bit of the area during low tide.
If you go, you may want to get explicit information about parking in advance.

We have just returned from a 4 day break at this lovely old Inn. Our last visit was 3 years ago and we were so impressed then by all it had to offer.Location, hotel, staff and food all being 1st class. Unfortunately, whilst the first 3 mentioned are still as they were the food menu is not. Both bar and restaurant offer the same menu and while this might appeal to some I believe that there should be a choice of menus given. If I choose fine dining I will elect to eat in a restaurant but if I want good, home cooked locally produced bar meals I would choose to eat in the bar.I found the menu both unappealing and expensive. I would also suggest that the details on the web site
are altered as this still shows sample menus from both bar and restaurant meals. We will still return as it has much to offer but it saddens me to see such changes made and I also know other guests and staff share my concerns. Thanks to Sue,Graham and Katie for looking after us so well.Sad that Katie and another member of staff have resigned. One final request PLEASE bring back bar menu

We stopped and enjoyed a very refreshing and well kept pint from a friendly and ideally situated inn on the Coastal path. It was glorious weather so we sat outside but it was clear walkers were welcomed. Whilst we did not eat in, many of the other tables were occupied by patrons eating their lunch. The helpings looked large, the ingredients fresh and appetising. As the meals seemed competitively priced, we will certainly try a meal there next time we are passing...and another pint of course...there seemed to be three local brews on offer so it might be long lunch!

Been coming to Port Gavern fir almost 20 years, seen a few changes but most things stayed the same.
Now that St Austell Brewery have bought the business the changes are different.
Some loyal staff missing good chef no longer cooking at his best. Menu sane every night.
But early days may get better with time, but wouldn't rush bak as locals see to have deserted the place.
They now have Sky TV if that helps

Room Tip: Best in old part of hotel
