We stayed here in July 2011, in the Highbury Room. The Hawthorns is a lovely architect-designed house with fabulous rooms over the far reaching countryside of the Camel valley. They have 3 letting rooms all of which are lovely. The bathroom in Highbury is to die for. £70 for the room and breakfast per night.
Julie and John, the owners, couldn't have been more accommodating, letting me use their Wi-Fi, and serving up a delicious full English Breakfast.
The house is easy to find, plenty of parking, and about 10 minutes walk from Wadebridge town centre, with its bars, shops, and restaurants, and camel trail. Hire a bike and travel the (car free) Camel Trail all the way to Bodmin or Padstow. In places you cycle past old disused stations, and it's really easy to imagine the lovely route that holiday makers must have travelled on the train years ago.
Sadly the weather was rubbish, but we managed to grab 10 minutes sitting on their gorgeous terrace overlooking the countryside before another rain shower.
Thanks Julie and John - we'll be back.
